Stupid isn't always to blame. I know quite a few people who don't get paid if they call in sick, a lot of people working in retail for a start. It's easy to stay at home if you're still going to get paid for it or not have to deal with people putting pressure or roaring down the phone at you to come into work.

Believe it or not that happens in the health service even now!

I am not condoning that person's actions going into work knowing she was positive , if that is what really happened .
It was an awful thing to do especially working with elderly vulnerable people .

But until I know the full story here I will reserve judgement .

Why is nhpet and the government picking and choosing what part of the country/society/economy to reopen? The pubs should be allowed to reopen now.
    NPHET recommends, Government decides.

Pubs are high risk and low down the list of importance for society to reopen. It's just unfortunate, no-one asked for a respiratory virus but that's the hand we have been dealt.

Are pubs more important than schools socially and economically?

Sure just open everything up and see what happens

Does 19 seems like an awful lot for a restaurant cluster? Sounds pretty scarily high to me, I assume it was all people at the same sitting. Did they give any more info on that- Ie was it perhaps a function in a restaurant (before the limit of 6 came in).

Or did a group/whole family have it and not know before they went?
And did two separate people bring it from different places would have to look at the strains (sequence the RNA)

I thought Leo introduced a covid payment - a covid illness payment. Does that cover an isolation period if you are contacted as a close contact and required to isolate?

I wonder are these just people getting tested for hospital procedures & then showing up as positive for Covid.

No . If positive they would be discharged home to isolate and procedure cancelled .

Nothing elective is being done when patient is positive.

Only reason they would be kept is if they were sick enough originally to be hospitalised .

There was a pub related cluster in Korea with over 100 cases. I can't remember the exact details.

Covid seems to be a super-spreading disease. In a super-spreading disease most infected people don't spread it widely, but one person who for whatever reason is more infectious in the wrong location can infect an entire room.

They came out with all these scary stat's without having a clue in March and everyone took it as fact

    5-20% hospitalisation rate
    2-3% death rate

    It seems more like

    .5-2% hospitalisation rate
    .2-.3% death rate

10,000 cases a day in March when every man and dog had it seems very likely now

The first are statistics for confirmed symptomatic cases .

Second are when testing thousands and picking up asymptomatic cases, which was not feasible and unknown before .

I was just saying h same.
Could cost Utd 100s of Millions of £.

He's surely unlikely to be able to play at that level again given how badly it affects the lungs and heart?

Been a few cases of this hitting athletes and now they are unable to resume their Sport. Rugby, American Football and Baseball players affected.

What is employment law on sick pay? I would have presumed it was illegal to not have a policy on sick days, sick time and sick pay.

    R number

I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about the different models used, but it's good to see some of them are coming up as below 1.

No legal requirements for employers to pay sick leave

High volume of tourists there so no surprise. I imagine if they tested staff in other locations close at hand they would have more positives.

I had to venture into Cork city centre today, the amount of homeless, drunk and drugged ones approaching for money was very intimidating especially from the younger, no social distancing or masks, it was scary, I felt it has got worse

The first one they know is an overestimate, and the ones below 1 are based on deaths alone.
    1-1.2 is best estimate

Isn't there a covid sickness payment? What is stopping people from taking that up if they need it? It was introduced to prevent these scenarios of people attending to work while sick.

The drunks and drugged up people has gotten worse ? Honestly drunk and people on drugs, social distancing and mask wearing probably isn’t high in their minds. Also, stay away from the quay by jury’s inn.

    No. Why? They're not effective.
