Our average is gradually going up and with that, the rate of growth usual grows with it.

With community transmission so high in our capital, the odds aren't out of this world but I wouldn't go as high as 500. I reckon we'll see 300 in one day before October though.

Over a million students now moving back and forth to school daily, along with their parents won't help matters.

Why October though, if community transmission is that bad it will go from 92 today to 300 quicker than 5 weeks I’d imagine.

    Not that I agree

I said before October, that could be anytime next month.

We do have restrictions in place and better practices, so we can't compare it exactly to previous times. It'll grow upwards but I couldn't tell you at what rate, maybe someone else can?

To be fair, we were in teen figures not too long ago and although growth came from supposedly containable outbreaks, our average hasn't come down so you can't think that it'll start coming down somehow, especially with schools about to open?

I'm sure this is to contradict the report given to his boss.

I'm very worried with increasing cases and our government's plan isn't very clear. It seems they are happy to have covid and not doing much to eradicate it.

I don't think there is anything that can be done to eradicate it at the moment.

47 new cases in the north - roughly the equivalent of 130 cases here

I worded my post poorly, I meant to say "apparently confirming" as opposed to actually confirmed. We don't have definite data on how long immunity lasts, but the credible reinfection reports emerging would suggest that the long-mooted timeframe of ~6 months is about right for Covid.

Thanks, and not saying the six month estimate is wrong, but my understanding is that the 'reinfection' confirms that a person has been infected by 2 different strains of the virus, which i don't think is unexpected, given most of us regularly succumb to different cold strains every year. I'm not sure on the detail, but it seems that second time around he was asymptomatic, does anyone know offhand how impacted he was first time around?

Under 40's that have recovered are now starting to present with myocardial disease. Prof Robert Byrne of Mater private confirms cases of inflammation of heart tissue in younger patients.
So much for this only being dangerous to older people. I think we have alot to learn about this disease , only a flu ....

With the way some people are carrying on - here online their posting style and tone and also the real world ignoring guidelines, they probably think its just a little cold but that folly is going to endanger many people and put others at risk because of spreading virus.

The best thing we can do as a country and as a society is to work together to get cases down as much as possible.

As Reuben Feffer would say we are on the non plan plan. ::eek:

Do people still not realise COVID will never be eradicated?

    Badly, he was in hospital.

It's not a different "strain". It's genetically distinct (tiny difference, nothing like influenza strains which are massively different.)

You'd have to understand the viral load at reinfection before jumping to the conclusion that secondary and subsequent infections are "mild".

Aslo if reinfection occurs, there is nothing stopping onward transmission in the community.

Covid 19 will be eradicated, but the virus won't be.

We got rid of snakes why not a pesky little virus.

SARS2 will always be about in its various genetic make ups and will hopefully be another harmless coronavirus in the future but it will still exist.

COVID is the name given to the list of ailments it currently brings, so that can and will be eradicated.

How do you think vaccines are supposed to work?

We still have the flu though, including H1N1 and the Spanish Flu strain.

How do you think vaccines are supposed to work?

The point of a vaccine is to prevent serious disease. Not to eliminate the virus.

there are 19 strains of Covid, Covid19 being the newest. All the other varieties are still with us and have been for years.

COVID19 was the name given to the 'disease' that SARS2 brings. You're thinking of Coronavirus.

19 refers to the year 2019, not the 19th Coronavirus.
