I would like to be able to get a pint in a beer garden of a pub on a hot day for less than €14.

That what I would be currently charged, as things stand.
Well for starters you are doing okay getting a pint €5, and we haven't had that many hot days in the past month at least.
To be honest, I wouldn't mind a pint in a beer garden on a warm/hot day either, but I am not going to moan about it because of the current restrictions that are to try and prevent people from contracting a potentially life threatening virus.
That aside, most pubs that I know of seem to be fairly lenient on the 'must order €9 worth of food' side of things, which to me says all pubs should be open or shut.
Personally, I think that pubs are not likely to see the numbers going through their doors that they had before the pandemic. Couple that with seating arrangements not enabling them to cater for that many people if they were to arrive.
I think it would be better for all of the pubs to be open, to allow the people that would go to the pub, to have more choice/thin out the crowds.
But inevitably people would start abusing it, which goes back to some sort of monitor system or the current one.
The more effective it is, the sooner things can start opening up again, which is likely to happen sooner if people followed the guidelines instead of protesting on the streets because they don't want to wear a mask when they go into a premises for a few minutes, possibly a week.

safe to say Wet pubs wont be opening next Monday but with this government its hard to knw what will happen

Let places open and use the same guidelines as food pubs but the fear will hit and NPHET will say no not opening now

Based on the lack of evidence that corona has spread widely from food pubs (and those pretending to be), there is no reason not to finally open the wet pubs next week.

    Of course, evidence means nothing

Given the clusterf*ck of the last couple of weeks i wouldn't be surprised if the Government gives wet pubs the green light.

They might see it as a way to buy back some good will with the public

No need to open them until we see what happens with schools. Far more important.

I've quietly been thinking this but I'm afraid to say it out loud. Michael's comment on the 6.1 news about "if we just wanted to be popular we'd reopen the pubs".... I'm not expecting it, another 2 week extension is what I'm actually expecting, but there's a niggling doubt in the back of my mind.....

I don't see the issue with wet pubs opening if it's table service only. No need for this 'you must buy food' ****. Sit down, get served happy days.

But we know what's going to happen with schools, it'd be more prudent if the government actually had a plan for when it inevitably happens.......

    Yes.

Aberdeen was locked down as a direct result of a cluster that started with 20 infections in one pub in the city centre, then spread more widely by the original 20 then "pub hopping" to other pubs in the centre.

The most recent figure I've heard is that the cluster directly traced to the original 20 has now exceeded 2000 cases, and that's with lockdown helping to reduce the numbers meeting up.

    no no no..that dont matter.

this is all about people thinking pubs are a priority during a global pandemic

Weird. This local newspaper has 254 cases as of yesterday

So he's making a joke out of it

Shows there's malice behind the decision to keep them closed and people out of work

People using the term " wet pubs" actually get on my wick more than people using the word " staycation". Christ.

Moist pubs gradually opening up serving pizza and other scutter, it’s gets them over the line as a class of a restaurant.

Is that a typo or is "moist" a new classification for an otherwise "wet" pub that serves pizza?

Good one, no really good one. With jokes like that I can see why you'd want the pubs closed.

Except for pub owners, their staff, suppliers etc who are all financially crippled right now. Doesn’t affect you though so who cares.

This type of sense and logic wont suit on this thread with certain people who feel its their divine right to socialize during a pandemic
