Is this because they're looking to hire all of their trainees through their internship programme or due to Covid? If its the latter, its quite surprising as most of the big firms in the UK are still recruiting and recruitment is still remaining strong.

All of the big professional services firms are still hiring for their grad programmes and law firms tend to be hit last in recessions and they recover quickly enough.

Does anybody else think the other firms will follow suit and cancel their Milkrounds this year? A bit of a nightmare really.

Would anyone sitting the online exams next week mind uploading the instructions they received from the Law Society, so those of us sitting in October can have some idea how we might be examined. Of course only if ye have time, I’m sure everyone is super busy preparing for next week. Thanks

This is extremely concerning news, particularly as ALG have won 'Most popular Graduate Recruiter in Law" for the past 9 years in a row. i'll stick this in-between 'no October timetable' and 'potential online exam' on my ever increasing covid induced list of stresses.

Hypothetically couldn't you write loads of stuff in your answer book before the test and also after the test in between finishing the zoom call and scanning them to the examiners email?

Maybe they watch you carry the laptop into the room you have the printer in (if you even have one) and watch you scan it lol. That doesn't seem likely.

Even if you're asked to flick through every page and show its blank at the start of the exam you could easily stick two pages together with your fingers and flick away making it appear blank, when in fact you have a page (or multiple pages) there filled with notes.

That's two potential chances to cheat, without even considering the fact that it's very easy have sample answers hidden away somewhere in your room and sneak them in front of you.

At least if it was typed there's no chance of you adding to it before or after the 3 hour exam.

Now that ALG has made it official, I'd say others will be more likely to follow suit.

I have never said I had any issue with it. I'm a firm believer that the exams should be online, and the August mini sitting should never have gone ahead. I merely asked would cheating be more possible with this format?

Did you read the email we had received that I just posted?

It literally says that you scan with your phone and this will be done before you check out of the Zoom call.

I'm not sure how you answer your exams, but I don't think writing a load of random things on pages will be any help to people in the exam if it's not relevant to the questions.

People seem to find it hard to believe that we're not all cheaters, but honestly, none of the things you mentioned even entered my head.

There is no need to be so condescending, I merely asked a question.

You need to read over your own post, not me. Nowhere does it mention a phone scanning anything. It says "At the end of the examination you will scan your written paper and email it to the invigilator." So no, it *literally* doesn't say that.

I never said right a "load of random things down". I said you could write notes or have sample answers at the ready, which are not "random things" and I'm sure reputable law schools would take offense to that accusation that their sample answers are "not relevant to the question".

I never presumed you were a cheater. I seem to have touched a nerve with a simple question. Deary me.

"Reputable law schools" and their "sample answers" is a bit of a paradox. Any preparatory course worth its salt should not be giving sample answers because they are a very very poor study tool. Students who rely on sample answers invariably try to regurgitate them in the exam setting always with limited success. It is a major pitfall in preparation for these exams to rote learn and try and regurgitate this in the exam. Plenty of indications in examiner reports that this practice does not work.

Similarly, while practicing past papers can be useful for exam technique, there are risks. For both sample answers (especially those based on past papers) and your own practice of past papers, the major risk is that a question comes up that looks quite similar to a question on a past paper. You mill into misremembering the sample answer or your prepared answer to the question asked on the past paper rather than the one that's in front of you in the exam. Having previously read and re-read the similar question on past papers will blind you to any nuances or subtle differences in the question in front of you. Your answer will be incorrect unless the question is 100% identical to that previously asked, which is rare.

What makes a whole lot more sense is to set yourself up with the tools to answer questions afresh without the risk of prejudging the paper and questions that might arise. I do appreciate that I am probably talking to the wall but time and time again these things are pointed out as reasons for failing by examiners.

    No particular order...

    Re ispa locquor
    Passing off
    Trespass the person/employers liability
    Statue of limitations
    Product Liability/causation
    Nuisance

Can’t remember the last two. DM me your email and I’ll send you on the paper

Honestly if your exam isn't until October I wouldn't worry about this just yet- keep studying and it will fall into place.

You'd never know what could happen between now and then and if they are online, maybe the Law Soc will be able to work something out.

They've been quite helpful with questions for this online exam so fingers crossed they'll be the same in October.

Buddy of mine sat the Inns exam today and he just upped and went. But I asked him would he be tempted to cheat and said no because he didn’t want to give any impression of impropriety which I can get behind.

Just wondering does anybody have the company law and constitutional papers from March this year.

Has anyone ever done the judicial assistant assessment? If so, what’s it like?

I did it last year. This was in the Kings Inn's building.

    Timetable:

    13:30 to 14:00 – Registration
    14:00 to 16:30 - Prepare a précis of a Court Judgment
    16:30 to 16:45 - Short Break
    16:45 to 17:30 – Proof Reading Exercise

They had coffee and some very tasty pastries. The exam hall was full and I got a fabric bag of Courts Service swag (I added a strap to it and I have a stylish laptop bag now). I am a civil servant so I got PAID to go (it was treated as it was an afternoon at work). Not sure how I'd feel sitting through all that for free :pac: I need a lot of coffee to say the least after that 2.5 hour law exam. I don't know anything about evidence law (I've never studied it, never worked in a job where I would need to know it etc) so I was a bit stumped for a lot of the exam. I'd say it will be on a different case this time around!

I presume it will be completely different as it was hardly what I'd call socially distant! I met some cool people at it and chatted FE-1 talk.

Have the courts service sent invites to the assessment?
