It's a matter of public record, and i have lost a sibling myself to a virus, not this, so I underatand who virulent viruses can be, so I understand fully what I'm saying. Its not a comment that was made to be nasty, but it was made in effort maybe he had some compassion but clearly not an ounce. My parents are terrified that id ever have to lose a child like they have.

I think that the government are making a balls of this (among other things) but to say that he has no compassion for children and outright doesn’t care about their lives and wellbeing is total BS.

Prove the contrary. Evidence points to him not caring, or at least being completely indifferent to their wellbeing and the wellbeing of their families.

As a parent, I am very concerned with the current plan for the opening of schools. I have created a petition that asked for a limited return to school in the initial stages. I have posted the link here if anyone would like to sign or share it.

If your child is in my 6th class they will hear on the first day back me that mask wearing will be encouraged by me.

Any chance of more backbone and force their use in your classroom?

We had my classroom my rules type teachers back in the day but a lot has changed.

Nope. We can't force this unless the government issues it which they won't as that would mean they would have to provide them to the students.

They don't provide school books but i take your point that your hands are tied.

    It is all a disaster!

Best of luck if you have someone like me in your class, questioning authority when things make no sense.

Maybe you could encourage the children to strike?

Good idea, should be easily motivated :)

I wasn’t the one who made the original statement, I don’t have to prove anything.
But it’s all a matter of opinion. My opinion is that FG did fcuk all to prepare for this earlier on when they were in power and that MM inherited a poisoned chalice.
I think no matter how he approaches this he is going to lose and people are going to criticise him - there is just no winning on this one.

I have never voted for him and I am not an FF supporter, and my posts on Boards will confirm as much, but to make such serious accusations about him ‘not having any compassion for children’ and ‘not caring about their health, lives and wellbeing’ you’d want to have a lot of very direct examples to back that up.
Not to mention the fact that bringing his dead children into it was absolutely disgusting and below the belt.

The guidelines explicitly say that primary children are not recommended to wear face coverings. It goes on to say that cloth face coverings are not to be worn by primary students...so I doubt that any teacher could enforce them.

I mean, the guidelines are a load of bollóx and wishy washy on many things. However they're surprisingly clear on that!

Sadly it seems the economy of this country is more important than the people who live in it, and Micheal Martin and his crew have nailed their colours firmly to the mast. I want my children back to school, I want my children to have an education, but not to the detriment of their health. Your entitled to your opinion as am I.

Yeah I know what you mean, I would welcome parents who question issues like mask-wearing as if parents and teachers share concerns then it could bring about some change. Unfortunately if the message is not coming from management it's very difficult. There are definitely parents who are very anti masks, some with valid reasons such as health grounds. If our school management is telling parents that pupils don't have to wear masks but I'm giving a contradictory message, it would likely cause problems.

We have been putting the people before the economy since restrictions were very first imposed back in March.
None of what we’re currently doing (the pubs etc) is in the best interests of the economy whatsoever, it’s to protect the people.
Even when we were reporting 2/3 cases and no deaths per day, we still didn’t open up certain industries until the roadmap allowed us to.
All for the people. All for our health and safety.

Leo Vradakar and FG are just as much to blame for the current shambles as MM is. This should have been worked on and thought out months ago, this is not something that should be rushed at the last minute and they’re all to blame for that.

I was pleasantly surprised to see strong leadership at the start of covid but we are back to normal now with the hapless half arsed contradictory way of doing everything in this country.

Have 3 primary school children, one has severe asthma. Naturally enough we're concerned about how he'll do in school.

We got a letter from school today saying that as the classrooms were too small there would be no social distancing in place. They hope the children will follow the etiquette around coughing and sneezing.
They will also stagger the drop off times for different classes and hand sanitizer will be provided. Oh the wearing of school uniform is also to stay in place but if possible laundered each day.

Have to say I'm not very happy with this set up. I'm in healthcare and while I understand the school is limited these steps are just not enough.

Totally agree. Up until a few weeks ago I was feeling very optimistic about our approach to covid and was excited to get back to work, but as you said, this half arsed approach of late is definitely not instilling confidence! Can't wait to see what our school's plan is, still have heard nothing and guessing it's because we don't have the capacity to put any of the recommended measures in place.

Question away. The more that parents roar and shout about things, the more chance the government will listen. They don't listen to us 'whingy' teachers.

I am no fan of FF or indeed of M Martin . I am very annoyed at his asking the over 70’s to once again pay the price for house parties by young peopl
But to bring the death of his beloved child into any of this is simply a step too far

Sorry I really meant one :pac: social distancing of at least a metre. Our classrooms are packed to the rafters as it is unfortunately.

Don't take this the wrong way but maybe you are seen as a soft touch. Not a single voice here prepared to take a stand. Hive mind?

I quit two jobs over attempts to force/bully me into doing unethical things.

Precisely :pac: for our school to have it be possible we would have to build another school with the capacity for about 400 students :pac:

Haha, some posters in this and other threads would beg to differ. Definitely not a push over but forcing children to wear masks isn't something I can legally do. I will encourage though.

Hopefully something like this is in the works and why we haven't been given any information yet, it would definitely be a welcome solution in my eyes!
