If I'm out for a walk with the dog and see a football match in the local park can I stand there and watch or will I be asked to keep walking? And who will police that?

Just look away, you're not a spectator by definition if you don't look at it!!!!
But if you sit down with a sandwich, it would be like in a restaurant, which are safer than outdoors.......
    Mental situation.

    For how long?

As MM said today until we get a vaccine.

Which would you prefer strict lockdown and then relative normality with no travel or this vagueness for 12-18 months.

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.rte.ie/amp/1159804/&ved=2ahUKEwjV2uLvpKXrAhXhZxUIHbQ-DZAQ0PADegQIDBAP&usg=AOvVaw3wghzgsd8JUoC8DvpnSn7p&ampcf=1

Not much chance us doing that anytime soon.

Travel isn’t a problem but anyway best have someone to blame them bloody foreigners.

Even better to blame Irish people who have the Gall to go abroad for holiday. The cheek of them, who do they think they are?
We should all be in Arklow or Salthill except the pubs are closed and we are no not advised to go to hotels...

How many weddings are you likely to attend this year? How many sporting fixtures? I'll bet the latter if much larger than the former.
    ...

I think this nuance has been completely lost in the messaging tbf.

Fair points. Hadn't considered the wedding frequency in this at all.

The messaging today was dire. Gonna do more harm than good imo.

I don't think Leo will have the FG support he thinks he will have if he tries any sort of no confidence vote. At the very least I think o'donoghue and Coveney are happy to ride this out with their heads below the pulpit.....

People have not been distancing at sports events. I've seen it myself. Given that this is a relatively inconsequential decision, it was bound to happen. All the nice things will be sacrificed if it means the schools can open.

While the restrictions may seem contradictory, the restrictions are not meant to be compared to one another. The goal is to reduce the overall number of gatherings taking place. A €9 meal doesn't make you immune to covid but having that restriction in place reduces the overall number of gatherings taking place in the country.

I think this nuance has been completely lost in the messaging tbf.

If they just said that in the beginning instead of their going to war rally cries we'd have unstood the message.

Reduce gatherings and restrict your circle of people to 6 whilst maintaining social distancing and wearing a face mask if possible

Ok so the 6 indoors is only for social gatherings then? So classes, cinema and Events Of 50 indoors that are controlled can continue is my understanding?

It doesn't take a genius, MM hangs himself out to dry every time he speaks.

That's my first time watching an MM press conference, honestly Trump and Boris make more sense.

All business can continue as before. New measures are just for social gatherings.

Closing time of 11:30pm for bars?

Nice to have that half hour back. Extra stout :D

Much as I will be glad to have that extra half hour back when I go to the pub on Friday, I have to say that even by messing around in terms of changes of 30 minutes or an hour makes them look like complete muppets. They may as well have just left it at normal closing 11.30/12.30 weekends.

They have messed up. This is seen and rightly so as policy failure. Its a fudge and the message is too unclear for anyone to understand. I think there will be another lockdown in September. When was the last time the r rate was below 1?

The wedding thing is simple. They locked down Kildare, Offaly and Laois with 4 hours notice, leading to weddings being cancelled the night before. Awful optics, and hoteliers on TV pointing out how hard it was to call all involved (especially Brides) saying everything cancelled after ll was set up.

Govt weren't going to make that PR disaster again, instead they just blurred up their message

Gyms are restricted, 6 in an exercise class. That's hardly a social gathering.

They have begged to do that since the madness of half 10 closing was introduced. This is a compromise we have to accept

I doubt it'll come to that, but I think he's cutely enough hinting to be at odds with MM when there's bad news about to be dished out.

I must say watching his and Simon Harris have their political reputations completely rehabilitated in the eyes of the users of boards is amazing to see.

Three months ago, according to the permanently irate on here, Leo was a clown who didn't have a clue what he was at and wanted to bankrupt the country and Simon Harris was a condescending pain in the arse who didn't even go to college. Now they're heroes whose good work is being squandered by MM - who is a clown, who doesn't have a clue what he's at and wants to bankrupt the country....

What about non food pub openings, is that pushed back?

Does food pubs then serve "food" until 90 mins before closing?

Still 105 minute limit per table so the extra half hour is literally irrelevant to everyone bar the restaurants themselves who may be able to take an extra table and make more money in a difficult time. Don't see any issue with that at all.

    thomas 123 wrote: »

Also whats with "restaurants" getting a 30 min extension on closing time, hard to believe experts discusses such a thing, who orders dinner at 10PM??

As has been clarified previously, 105 minute deadline only applies if they can't do 2m distancing.

MM getting lots of credit in my whatsapp group this evening.

He’s leveling with the people and seems more on top of his brief.

I was overly critical early doors with him. Head and shoulders over the last clown to hold the office.

Honorable mention to Eamon Ryan too. He has steadied himself after that below the belt ambush from Catherine Martin which she ended up losing

Sounds like your WhatsApp group is your self and The Unbareables

This is a problem with attitude and it's one of the reasons why this has happened. If there is no one to police it or no punishment people won't follow the simple instructions. You move on yourself is the answer.

That's what has led us to this point.

All business can continue as before. New measures are just for social gatherings.

Not quite, they clearly said (Well a clear as anything else they said, I suppose) that Gyms should be limited to 6 per class (Not sure if it just an open Gym), Summer camps to 15 kids only, indoor training limit to 6. Cimemas was not clarified.

    Also from RTE website:-

Training sessions should follow the rule of six people indoors and 15 outdoors.

Children's summer camps can continue, but should be kept to the same group of 15 children. (outdoors I presume, not sure what happens if you need to do any events indoors)

Gyms can remain open but no more than six people will be allowed in an exercise class at any given time.

If kids can go to school then everything should be fine. Why are they going to school if hey are not safe?
From my understanding and I'll admit it's hard getting facts. But kids under 10-12 don't tend to spread the virus (via coughing/sneezing) as much as those over 12. The majority of kids getting infected is from an adult.
Hence the remark about lunchboxes being the key thing to sanitise (kids eating and touching the lunchbox etc...)
