    Fair points. Hadn't considered the wedding frequency in this at all.

    People have not been distancing at sports events. I've seen it myself. Given that this is a relatively inconsequential decision, it was bound to happen. All the nice things will be sacrificed if it means the schools can open.

    While the restrictions may seem contradictory, the restrictions are not meant to be compared to one another. The goal is to reduce the overall number of gatherings taking place. A €9 meal doesn't make you immune to covid but having that restriction in place reduces the overall number of gatherings taking place in the country.

    I think this nuance has been completely lost in the messaging tbf.

    If they just said that in the beginning instead of their going to war rally cries we'd have unstood the message.

    Reduce gatherings and restrict your circle of people to 6 whilst maintaining social distancing and wearing a face mask if possible

    Ok so the 6 indoors is only for social gatherings then? So classes, cinema and Events Of 50 indoors that are controlled can continue is my understanding?

    Much as I will be glad to have that extra half hour back when I go to the pub on Friday, I have to say that even by messing around in terms of changes of 30 minutes or an hour makes them look like complete muppets. They may as well have just left it at normal closing 11.30/12.30 weekends.

    42 minutes , jeez he can't string a decent sentence together. Blaming health advisors by saying he took their advice, bit can't explain the rationale himself. Haven't watched these briefings lately but he is seriously poor at instilling any confidence. Can't stand Veradkar but he's miles ahead of this.

    They have messed up. This is seen and rightly so as policy failure. Its a fudge and the message is too unclear for anyone to understand. I think there will be another lockdown in September. When was the last time the r rate was below 1?

    The wedding thing is simple. They locked down Kildare, Offaly and Laois with 4 hours notice, leading to weddings being cancelled the night before. Awful optics, and hoteliers on TV pointing out how hard it was to call all involved (especially Brides) saying everything cancelled after ll was set up.

    Govt weren't going to make that PR disaster again, instead they just blurred up their message

    They have begged to do that since the madness of half 10 closing was introduced. This is a compromise we have to accept

    I doubt it'll come to that, but I think he's cutely enough hinting to be at odds with MM when there's bad news about to be dished out.

    I must say watching his and Simon Harris have their political reputations completely rehabilitated in the eyes of the users of boards is amazing to see.

    Three months ago, according to the permanently irate on here, Leo was a clown who didn't have a clue what he was at and wanted to bankrupt the country and Simon Harris was a condescending pain in the arse who didn't even go to college. Now they're heroes whose good work is being squandered by MM - who is a clown, who doesn't have a clue what he's at and wants to bankrupt the country....

    Not quite, they clearly said (Well a clear as anything else they said, I suppose) that Gyms should be limited to 6 per class (Not sure if it just an open Gym), Summer camps to 15 kids only, indoor training limit to 6. Cimemas was not clarified.

    Also from RTE website:-

    Training sessions should follow the rule of six people indoors and 15 outdoors.

    Children's summer camps can continue, but should be kept to the same group of 15 children. (outdoors I presume, not sure what happens if you need to do any events indoors)

    Gyms can remain open but no more than six people will be allowed in an exercise class at any given time.

    From my understanding and I'll admit it's hard getting facts. But kids under 10-12 don't tend to spread the virus (via coughing/sneezing) as much as those over 12. The majority of kids getting infected is from an adult.
    Hence the remark about lunchboxes being the key thing to sanitise (kids eating and touching the lunchbox etc...)
