I went to see this today. My brother had spotted the ad, shortly before you posted it.

Just to possibly save someone's time:

Car's a lot rougher than it looks in the pictures.
-Offside rear bumper has some damage, looks like it hit a pole.
-Bottom of offside rear door bent inwards and has allowed water ingress. Looks like a car had been parked beside and rubbed it with edge of front bumper, as it reversed with lock.
-steering wheel filthy and covered in a thick layer of muck.
    -handbrake wrapped in black tape
    -gearstick knob badly worn
-central information screen display is broken/faded
-Badly faded/corroded rear spoiler and headlights
    -No service history stamps
-Front fog Lamps in very bad condition
-plastic trims on bottom of bumpers loose
    -One wheel arch liner missing
-4 different budget tyre brands (v good threads)
    -Engine bay in good nick

Overall, the car is rough and it's very rough for the odometer reading quoted.

    I don't think it's worth the headache.

The garage itself seems good and the staff pleasant.

The reason the hand break was taped, was because the hand break trim does break off sometimes at the end. I never heard of this, until it happened me and a number of others on a civic forum! You can order the trim again from Honda and swap it over, with some time and effort. But it’s seems like a small issue with the other problems on that car.

The screen is a common issue also! It becomes dim and the writing goes crazy.

First thing anyone should be doing when a gang like that shows up to view anything is go straight for the water and say “look, there’s no oil in here. Feel. No oil” and then commence with the rigmarole.

We’ve started doing it, and definitely caught out a few with it..

I'm curious... What gangs and what does the oil/water spiel do?

    Our cultural nomads I'm guessing.

They throw a dash of oil into the coolant expansion tank on the sly while the seller is distracted.

They then proceed to claim the headgasket is on the way out so they'll give you x amount less than your asking price.

Would there be anything to watch out for here?

    It’s a Zetec.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,826 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Sport, lol. Zetec is even written on the boot lid. Seller has a load of other cars and stuff for sale too so this ain't their first rodeo at selling.

Could be a minor thing. The car says located in Galway City, but the pictures were taken in Tuam. Approx 30km away.
Also the guy seems to be one of those "We buy any car" type fellas. Might be sound, but just be aware.

I demo'd one of those notes in 2008 for a few weeks. Surprisingly capable. They're like a TARDIS inside.

....and stop yourself from buying one.

    Heck, dont do that.

I know someone who put up 100k+miles on one from new. They were happy with it. Very little went wrong tho there was an issue with the setup of one of the back wheels which I suspect was similar to the issue frequently found on the Leaf 24.

Between the incredibly low mileage and fresh NCT from Saturday, that would make a lovely buy if it checked out

While we are on the subject of diesel 407's...
    2008 with low tax (280 p.a)
NCT is until September 2021 and there is still a couple of weeks tax on it
    Asking €1290

They usually self combust at the most inconvenient times. This one seems defective. It hasn't set itself on fire yet.

Does the vauxhall badge accelerate that combustion process??
