Majority of my colleagues hate them. Again have you done manual labour for 8hrs a day whilst wearing a mask or do you just wear one when on a bus for 30 mins or in a shop for a short time?

Majority I work with hate them too and complain about them all day.

A lot is down to the type of mask used. I see a lot of people using masks with one layer of extremely light fabric. They wear this loosely so it almost feels like they have no mask. I presume these are close to ineffective.

Then there are those who wear the tight heavy masks with two layers of fabric. These restrict breathing and are difficult to wear for a long period of time.

I have both types, depending on what I am doing. I can’t wear the heavy ones all day, I feel nauseous after a while.

We have to wear the ones supplied by the employer

The one I have makes it feel like I'm wearing nothing at all, nothing at all

I got on a Dublin bus the other day EVERYONE had a mask on apart from one lady about 19 with a buggy. Sat in the chair beside the wheelchair area and chatted on the phone facing the rest of the bus no mask at all. LOL not a care in the world on her. was fairly busy too. I had to swig some of my water and was freaked out that anyone would complain when i had to quickly take a sip from my water bottle. I rolled the mask up a few inches when the bus stopped slurped and pulled it back down within 2 seconds. me hoping no-one noticed my indiscretion:o

Another guy at the bus stop twice coughed into the air no thought to cover his mouth or cough into armpit. I quickly moved upwind of this individual after his first cough. yes your outside dude but like ehhhh ya know pandemic:rolleyes:
Im surprised some people are that thoughtless or unaware.

The same way a virus knows if you’ve payed €9 for a meal or knows if you’re in a spar or an opticians?

No suprise you also spout this gem :pac:

Well at least the employer is paying for them. A girl I work with got a new expensive heavy mask. She described wearing it as like being smothered by a pillow. She wasn’t long going back to the bargain store rubbish.

It’s not me who spouted it. Your precious government did.

Whats the story with the perspex visors? I only saw older people with them on but recently saw a middle aged lady with one on. Are they as effective as masks ? Are they acceptable instead of a mouth/nose covering? I dont understand the logic with them as they are completely open all around:confused:. I understand spittle cant enter your eyes but arent airborne particles what the idea of mouth and nose coverings are for:confused:

Almost like it doesn’t matter WHAT you wear on your face but that you’re compliant enough to whack something across your face...

A lace kinckers turned into a mask would probably pass

Face shields did not protect people from the coronavirus in an outbreak in Switzerland, but masks did, health officials say

And here’s the whole problem with masks and face coverings.

If you don’t have the proper mask or correct material for face coverings all it does is create a false sense of security.

With masks, it's hard to not have a correct face covering. The studies done about droplet transmission show that even a single layer covering the nose and mouth stop droplets from travelling very far.

Is there any studies investigating whether or not that could be at the risk of increasing aerosols generated?

I'm liking the mask from a 'it disguises me from having to talk to people that would otherwise recognise me' point of view.

    Do one yourself.
Put on the crappiest mask you can find. Cough towards a mirror from about a 30cm away. Do the same without a mask. Let us know if more got to the mirror when you had the mask on.

They hide my dark circles. I'm a fan.

The Swiss did a study that indicated visors alone are not safe. They need to be used in conjunction with masks.

Aerosols are too small to see, don't think that most people get that there's a difference between aerosols and droplets

It's not a minor inconvenience if your work requires it. Do you speak for everyone now?

My sister is an icu nurse spending 13 hour shifts wearing full ppe gear and she complains less than you do.

Probably an obvious question . Have a good few double layer cloth masks. See an awful lot of people with the blue disposable ones. Do they offer better protection . Have read that medical masks are better but are they different to the disposable ones you can buy in lidl etc? Medical masks have metal strip around nose?

Well-made cotton masks should have a pocket for a non-woven filter and a channel for a metal nose clip. That will bring them up to the optimum non-surgical category. A lot of the paper ones from discount stores are little better than a Kleenex with stapled-on elastic bands. Look up Olson mask and 3-D mask patterns and see what suits you best. Then buy some fabric and a machine or get in touch with someone local who is making them. I don't really rate the pleated ones: better than nothing though.

Good study here published last week comparing 14 different types of masks including surgical - some poly-cotton are as good (figure 3)

Probably because she was too busy making tik tok videos whilst the hospitals were empty

Watching a episode of 'The Great' today, set during the reign of Catherine the Great. Even then, they were giving out to her for not wearing a mask during a small pox outbreak and that was in the late 1700s...
