A pub and restaurant in Co Clare is to close for two weeks after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

The Creamery Bar and Restaurant in Bunratty said one staff member tested positive and as a result they are voluntarily closing. https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/irish-pub-close-14-days-22517141

No Government Official or anyone working for Government is going to tell a lowly Clerical Officer that "on Monday, there will be a lockdown"

Lockdown, for the entire country, on Monday, without a word of warning, without any leaks to the press, even though Kildare, Offaly and Laois had at least the weekend before it was on lockdown on the Monday?

    Right, OK

There's risks in everything, but they seem to be proactive and shutting down until they get they get the all clear. I like hearing about responsible places like that. There's been some hair dressers doing that etc...
From the article, there's no evidence the confirmed case had any direct contact with customers.
Pubs have had cases, but I don't believe there have been any clusters directly attributed to a pub. And if there was it seems to be an isolated case.

But workplaces where they follow strict guidelines and checks and wear PPE, they get massive clusters. It really goes to show, we don't really understand this virus. With travel being back throughout the world, we still haven't seen a massive cluster from a single flight in frequency.

The kid hasn't any symptoms of Covid, it's not anti-testing to tell people stop being hysterical and have some common sense.

You're the one who needs to have common sense . So everyone who is pro testing is now hysterical according to you ?
This is why cases are rising around the country because there are people who won't listen to advice from health professionals and get tested when they or their children have symptoms , ANY SYMPTOMS as listed on HSE website .
How do you know you haven't got a mild but infectious case of Covid otherwise ?
We are damn lucky that there is testing available now for everybody . In March there wasn't and look where that led .
The alternative is stay the fxxx at home IN CASE you have it for 14 days and keep your kids out of school or creche too !
You say how can school and life get back to normal if we keep running off to get tested every time we have a sniffle or our kids .
I say to you how can we get back to normal if we don't ?
Schools , creches and work places will end up closed due to clusters ...none of us want that scenario.

The misinformation really annoys the hell outta me. They can post it here and most reasonable posters call them out on it and it fades away. However these rumors be spread on less educated platforms and people end up believing them.

When we had a lockdown, the public actually were calling for it before the government actually initiated it. As such there was very high complacency (granted we were always told of a few isolated breaches etc...) But right now, I don't believe there's any appetite for any sort of lockdown, let alone a roll back of restrictions.

Looking at the study, they only study 3 cases, though the quotng article says asymptomatic people also affected by myasthenis gravis. Though overall it indicates more study needed.

No, No, No, if you have symptoms yes get tested, a blocked nose isn't a symptom, as I said earlier I was in the same boat today, right at this moment I'm breathing fine, that's after 5 pints, 4 Irish Coffees, 2 bottles or Marlborough Hunky Dory and 2 Slane Castle whiskey mojito.
From what i've witnessed earlier in the thread it's people with no children are being Hysterical. There was only me and one other parent telling people to get a grip.

I'm pro testing but you have to have some cop on at the same time, a blocked nose with no other symptoms is not a reason to go get tested. I'm really concerned yourself and a few others are that paranoid every sniffle warrants a test. That child did not meet the criteria for getting tested.

I know what the definition of cluster is but I don't know what their definition of an outbreak is.

Haha your nose is probably dried up because you're dehydrated by the alcohol and the heat!
    And no I 'm not paranoid , I 'm a nurse and don't like it when people don't heed ( my ) good advice , lol!
As regards children I have a few , and am both trained and worked for years in Children's nursing , so yes I know what I am talking about .
These times are not normal times and what seems like normal sniffles needs to be investigated properly by someone qualified to do so , and sorry drunkmonkey , but unless you have a medical qualification , it ain't you !
    Enjoy your weekend .🙂

Your post is well structured and diplomatic but it loses any credibility when you mention 'suspected cases'

Every single person in hospital is tested for COVID, until their result comes back clear they are a 'suspected case'

If you have followed these threads and numbers in recent months you will see the number of confirmed hospital cases has remained steady, the number of 'suspected' has decreased.....the use of the world suspected it questionable at best..

This is a dangerous disease, but let us not lose sight of reality....there are much bigger concerns for our society than COVID19..... cancer, mental health... the crazy figure on waiting lists...

We need a shake up and fast....we cannot keep living in this COVID19 daze for much longer or we will lose sight of much bigger problems and their solutions.

    This is not accurate !

Everybody is tested for Covid on or prior to admission .
However only those admitted with symptoms of Covid are " suspected cases " , not the 100s of people tested everyday on admission
And let's face it if you are admitted to hospital with suspected Covid , you are not in these times going to be coming out any time soon
If those numbers are true for suspected cases then we are in trouble .

    "privacy", the usual excuse

We should be given a list of cases each day by county and rough location, as well as method of transmission.

Each day by county yes, to provide an overall breakdown. Getting anymore detailed might just set people on edge. It’s enough to be hammering them with the generals...

Method of transmission would be a good idea, so people are hammered with what methods and how they need to combat this.

They're still going on about social distancing. You can be well away from someone and never having to meet an infected person and still get infected with airborne transmission. The virus leaves the mouth and nose. They need to up their game on masks.

I didn't say otherwise. I was replying to an accusation that RTE was not reporting honestly, by quoting Dr. Glynn directly.

The always excellent Dr John with links for sources and information on Africa that’s potentially encouraging.

In short, the death rate in certain parts of Africa is practically negligible in some studies (0.0026). He goes into some theories as to why this might be the case but like Ive said before we need a more cohesive, collective study from global partners to start working together with the available data to find chinks In the virus armor.

Anybody who hasn’t watched Dr Johns videos, they are far better then the watered down stuff you get from news media and papers. He’s a retired nurse, who is qualified to be a doctor, who used to train nurses and has worked around the world. He always gives links to the information he discusses and explains why he takes certain stance on scenarios. He seems to annoy some people for some strange reason, but he’s one of the best, most reliable and informed sources I’ve seen online. I watch him, medcram and Dr Hansen on YouTube and they put news sources to shame. Usually stuff they are talking about is discussed like breaking news weeks or even months later from governments.

Putting people "on edge" or people being given the information needed to modify their behavour if needed in their location.

I think its the facts that alarm people . Theirs nothing really dislikeable about the man himself.
