So no cases in Laois? Or maybe one or two? Whole county locked down.

1 case. Shouldn't be in lockdown in my opinion.

    Yes there is.

Community transmission is still next to nothing. These cases were anticipated and traced. Its not ideal, but we aren't talking about Melbourne or Florida or NW England, or even Aberdeen.

7 Day average trajectory is simply looking desperate. To think a week ago I was hopeful that this Kildare outbreak would be controlled and we might get back to 30 cases a day range

Day Month Date Cases 7 Day
    Sunday July 19th 10 20.43
    Monday July 20th 6 19.71
    Tuesday July 21st 36 20.29
    Wednesday July 22nd 17 20.71
    Thursday July 23rd 7 18.71
    Friday July 24th 20 16.71
    Saturday July 25th 24 17.14
    Sunday July 26th 12 17.43
    Monday July 27th 11 18.14
    Tuesday July 28th 40 18.71
    Wednesday July 29th 14 18.29
    Thursday July 30th 85 29.43
    Friday July 31st 38 32.00
    Saturday August 1st 45 35.00
    Sunday August 2nd 53 40.86
    Monday August 3rd 46 45.86
    Tuesday August 4th 45 46.57
    Wednesday August 5th 50 51.71
    Thursday August 6th 69 49.43

I may be underreacting to the high number but this tweet is reassuring to me, it seems that the HSE have much greater oversight in terms of these clusters than in the past

Lockdown the whole of the east ? For what reason exactly when 5 cases are community transmission and the CMO himself is saying where the large number of cases are coming from.

I was looking at twitter trends and #kildarelockdown was visible but nothing else then LOKdown popped up so everyone is happy!

    118 in LOKdown counties

    110 in Kildare
    7 in Offaly
    1 in Laois!

I know the decision for lockdown was based on the total incidence over the last two weeks per population but I bet the Laois business owners will be feeling even angrier now.

How many cases are classified as community transmission?

I haven't been following this thread for obvious reasons (!) so why is Kildare a hot spot right now? The first meat plant case was supposedly two months ago is that right and yet it's suddenly gone from ember to forest fire in the last week. Was someone not doing their job regarding mass testing of employees?

Employees living in Newbridge DP centre (hotel which never operated as a hotel in centre of town), taking bus to Naas to work. Kildare Chilling guys seem to live in kildare town mostly. RTE news showed living conditions in Newbridge and they were sharing room with strangers. It was a time bomb waiting to happen. Local reports that staff could not get PUP payments and no sick pay as they are contractors. They had to work. So they were avoiding temperature checks by popping into cold storage first (don’t know layout so not sure if even possible). I’m sure there are plenty of places all over ireland with same conditions living and working. Sure to repeat itself elsewhere.

    Only 5.

"Of the 174 confirmed cases today just 5 result from community transmission."

    5 today

112 are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case

5 cases have been identified as community transmission

110 cases are located in Kildare, 27 in Dublin, 7 in Cork, 7 in Offaly, 6 in Meath and 17 are spread across thirteen other counties

Roscommons 35 day run without a case is over.

How are the numbers not outrageous? Between yesterday and today 272 cases. Many of these cases have been out and about, active in communities, training, shopping trips and elsewhere. Does that not worry you?

I only takes one case to trigger a huge outbreak.

Am I right in thinking that what they call “community transmission” essentially means an infection of unknown origin?

If so, transmission in the community must still be happening (as part of all these clusters and outbreaks) but our testing and tracing system is on top of it and knows where it comes from (which is good news)

People on Kildare need to be locked into their homes. We have to contain this. Bring in the army to get supplies to people
