Waiting to see the county breakdown, this is clearly why they took action of the 3 counties yesterday

Sorry to hear your predicament, did you have Covid so?

Are the direct provision centre workers on Covid pay while out quarantining, I assume meat workers are?

Workers in direct provision weren't entitled to the Covid illness payment until this week, after the proverbial hit the fan in the meat factories

It was announced in the government briefing on Thursday (the briefing by Liz Canavan).

110 of the additional cases are in Co Kildare

112 are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case

5 cases have been identified as community transmission

110 cases are located in Kildare, 27 in Dublin, 7 in Cork, 7 in Offaly, 6 in Meath and 17 are spread across thirteen other counties

110 in Kildare. 27 odd in Dublin, the rest spread around.

Carpet bombing of Kildare begins immediately.

Not for me it's a lot of people in their 30s or 40s, don't care is the wrong expression, its more they are sick of it and have no intention of having another lockdown.

I’m mid 30s. I look after myself and my own health. I take personal responsibility for it. These foreva lockdowns are absolute tripe and interestingly I’m a lot less in the minority about them too. A lot if people are furious with this futile approach once again

There's no way of sugar coating 174 new cases.

Wow 27 in Dublin is worrying since only a week it was 18 cases across the country. Could blow up again

Jaysus, any numbers in NI yet? Wonder what the total for the Island will be for the day.

Between yesterdays and todays numbers I have no doubt surrounding counties at the minimum including the capital will be back in lockdown by the end of the month, maybe even a national lockdown.

The Kildare outbreaks are simply massive and appear to have stemmed from the dog food factory as it was first notified. Got into direct provision and went from there by the looks of it.

110 from Kildare alone is outrageous.

7 in cork is the highest we have had for a while I believe is it? Either way still a low enough number down here.

Kildare's outbreak seems to be massive, hopefully the numbers won't be too high for this long but glad they have decided to lock down the county.

100 people get covid. 20 get admitted to ICU with 6 out of the 20 passing away.

Are we ready take the chance to lose 6 out of every 100? You might be, not so sure about myself.

That is a horrific risk to take with friends and family. It will devastate communities.

Contrary to your claim, Its a death sentence for many. Maybe we can just shunt all the elderly onto an island and move on with things I suppose.....

These are not the actual true figures. The IFR is estimated at anywhere between 0.3 and 1.2 from what I have most recently seen. The numbers appear worse because when we were at peak deaths we were getting maybe 10 % of cases. At an estimate of 5% infection rate in Ireland we have likely had 250,000 cases. Maybe more. That number would yield 1.8 deaths per 200, at 250,000 infections. I have had a couple of glasses of red so perhaps my sums are wrong. It is nasty but not as nasty as you are fearing.

Community transmission still staying low at 5 cases is good, hopefully it can stay that way.

Serious issues in Kildare quite clearly. Hopefully the restrictions brought in can get on top of that

I haven't been following this thread for obvious reasons (!) so why is Kildare a hot spot right now? The first meat plant case was supposedly two months ago is that right and yet it's suddenly gone from ember to forest fire in the last week. Was someone not doing their job regarding mass testing of employees?

So no cases in Laois? Or maybe one or two? Whole county locked down.

Lots of reports around today saying the CFR (yes, CFR) is 0.1-0.3% based on Spain’s cases and deaths, having started at 15% but beware that Spains death reports are suspect since they recently changed how they report.

Did they mention if there were a large amount of positives who were asymptomatic?
