Theyre on lockdown, wouldn't it be more important to find and stop it quickly outside these counties?
The priority right now is those 3 counties, and rightly so.

Localised lockdowns will erode that sense of national solidarity that carried us through the first three months of the pandemic. The mood is already changing as it is. We might be about to experience our very own winter of discontent.

Every other country can do it and no hassle but when Ireland does it it's "eroding national solidarity"?

If they leave the meat factories dictating their own rules it will only go one way.

It's not just meat factories though although the clusters and outbreaks are showing up in the meat factories. It's every employer. Every employer has a responsibility to keep their establishment and working environment safe and minimise risks as much as possible. All employers have to be on board and on the same page. Gone are the days of showing up to work with a cold and employers need to implement that. I remember reading something here a few days ago from someone. He was working from home since March and theor employer is now pushing people back into the office where the work can still be done at home. Where is the sense in that?

Hard to see us not going back into restrictions on a national level to be honest. Apart from the business closures the wishy washy stay within the county boundaries won't work nor will they be adhered to.

Of all the business closures it's utterly baffling how hairdressers and barbers can continue operating. If one asymptomatic person goes in for a bazzer regardless of the mask it's likely they will pass it to the barber who will then likely pass it to nearly every other customer that comes in the rest of the day. They then go about their business as normal and all of a sudden it's all over the community.

But also... This has not happened and they have been open for 6 weeks now?

Can you imagine the posts on here if we locked the whole country down because of an outbreak in some factories in the midlands.

Sometimes I think people just like complaining, public health are doing the best they can in very difficult circumstances.

Can you point out a cluster involving barbers?

It's reasonable to reimpose restrictions in areas with potential for high spread. It's not trying to catch 100% of potential cases. Risk reduction.

It's not going to spread that fast if normal precautions are taken. Masks, person shouldn't be there for a long length of time, ventilation, hand-washing.

Anyone outside Kildare, Laois and Offaly should expect to be waiting for a test atm tbh

That doesn't make sense. Cases are popping up in other counties and it wouldn't be smart to ignore other counties and make them wait for tests/results. It could easily spiral out of control outside of the LOKdown.

It makes the most sense? There's outbreaks in those 3 counties. They need to test and trace those 3 counties to make sure cases don't pop up in other counties.....

They are yesterday’s, so will be included in today’s announcement. It might be a little lower than 128, but still hard to sugar coat it.

If they're just from the factories or those counties it might be possible to contain it but how many of these people live or travel to Dublin? This could be carnage. Doesn't help the government are fumbling with their decisions.

Yes responsible people, who don't want to pass on a potentially fatal disease and taking steps to mitigate the risk. What is the world coming to?

An open airport with no restrictions on red countries entering.. Yet the locals are muzzled..

Totals are up to date, so less than 128.

Fumbling? The 3 counties that needed some sort of response based on case numbers got it.

Yes theres been some pretty poor decisions and communication has been awful but what was done yesterday was needed and came fairly quick based on the testing numbers for those 3 counties

"Muzzled" is a very distinctive term. I could swear I saw somebody with similar interests and a much higher post count using it constantly before getting forum banned for ignoring a Mod instruction yesterday.

It should be wrote as 100-ṁ to indicate it's mostly meat factories bringing up the numbers.
