Just did a bit of checking. An announcement expected on the Leicester lockdown today but article does state the numbers continue to fall.

athy is over 60k away from timahoe and is not a virus hotspot as numerous other towns in Kildare/laois/offaly arent . shutting down air travel makes sense - this government who seem to copy and paste what other jurisdictions do are trying to apply local lockdowns used in urban areaas abroad like Manchester, Leicester etc to a rural area where the chances are more people from the factory are living in lucan urban area than anywhere else . We will see what they say but I don't hold out hope for common sense. a county by county lockdown makes no sense, has to be down on a town/km basis
You may see a reversal of some openings in Phase 3 instead. The population option is far too impractical with such a mix of rural and urban households. I reckon a good talking to will be about the extent of it, with a close eye on the daily positives. Unless it continues to rise a lot reversal will just be a possibility for now.

outside of the hotspots? No chance

Economy needs the boost from us holidaying in the country. No extra risk in people outside of the hotspots

I can't see the government putting restrictions in place where they aren't needed. The PUP payment has gone down significantly in July and according to the minster for finance there was encouraging signs in June and July. We need to fight the flare ups which were bound to happen and keep moving along slowly.

I was stopped on 8 occasions during last lockdown by guards, gave the same answer and waved on. Waste of time and resource

Need to go down the fine route if you are utilising the guards. Example, if you do not have documentation showing you are a frontline worker then a fixed notice fine is issued

Completely agree but that won't happen, we'll do it half arsed as per.

If MM has to address the nation this evening with new restrictions he better have some good movie quotes.

do they all live in Kildare, laois ,offaly ?? timahoe is ten minutes from Dublin and meath so probability is a lot of them live there also... the point is local lockdowns in Ireland makes no sense whatsoeever -

Pull your head in its not 10 minutes from Dublin.

No he doesn't he just needs to get whatever measures involve Kildare, Laois, and Offaly right. The government in my opinion since the new one have come in have not been as good as the previous one on messaging and he as leader if he speaks needs to get it right.

I think we are going to be getting out breaks like this as we go on. Not sure we can keep up a cycle of lockdown and then reopen on and on.

While worrying it's better than having these numbers and not a clue where they are coming from

BBC really are fear mongering scum
    Meet Laila.
It's 2025 and she works from home four days a week. It's been that way since the 2020 lockdown.

    STFU!!!!

Yes, but Athy is only 23km from Kildare chilling which also has a serious cluster.
Timahoe isn't the only cluster in Kildare/Laois/Offaly and people shouldn't base all the reactions around it.

Hopefully this wont impact GAA or the pubs. We need an outlet of some sort.

Having Gards visible is a deterrent in itself and achieves something on its own.

The only thing it achieves is to ensure you have up to date tax, insurance and an NCT

Australia messed up and Hong Kong got complacent, given its population density. We have 4 large clusters of concern for now, which are being managed. Health messages are being ramped up for greater vigilance. There may be some cases in the community but they are low, thanks to our own vigilance.
How did Hong Kong get complacent?

Think it was mentioned a few days ago that there appeared to be a tapering in worldwide cases, it may be testing limitations, or perhaps just temporary, but it does seem like the growth has slowed, even a little.

I'd prefer they give these decisions the consideration they deserve rather than rush them in fairness

IT reporting that Cabinet are discussing 2 weeks of regional restrictions for Kildare, Laois and Offaly involving closing pubs, restaurants, muesums, cafes and cinemas (Phase 2.5 of sorts it seems). No sport or gyms. Travel within own county only except for work/medical/family reasons/farming. Indoor gatherings restricted to 6 people.

If you are going abroad, in accordance with "the right to travel" in our constitution, Heather Humphreys wants to know what your address and PPS number is. I have e mails to support this absurd query.
