"Absolutely spineless leadership" is an extreme statement. Fair enough, question them but this government and the ones before them have taken some fairly unpopular decisions. That's not "absolutely spineless".

You don't agree with them on this. Fair enough. You ask a fair question. But statements like that just end up polarising the debate.

Cowering in front of the American teat for fear of upsetting them is absolutely spineless.

It is in no way extreme and if you think it is then you really need to get out more Helen.

No, he's simply telling the truth. Stop cheerleading on behalf of the government and open your eyes.

And a restaurant licence as well or just get a pizza oven and hope for the best?

There is no requirement for a restaurant licence

A for profit, commercial enterprise, be it a pub or be it anything else, has no divine right to be allowed trade during a health crisis.

"Restaurants" to be told to close by 11pm now. You actually can't make this up anymore

Sure just tell everyone to go to house parties

    Name calling? Nice.

The use of a variation of the word "absolute" is by its nature extreme. The government clearly aren't absolutely spineless. They've taken some tough decisions that are unpopular.

Like I say, you ask a fair question. It's just symptomatic of how debates like this now go that a position can't be taken unless it's at one end of the spectrum or the other and the debate, inevitably, becomes polarised with everyone shouting and no-one listening.

It is a PR exercise now. The Gubbermint are not obliged to take the risk of reopening until the kids are back at their desks. It makes sense, a winner winner. Any grave upsurge in infections would lead to panic from the teachers' union's, too many votes going on there, it is easier to throw the publicans under the bus for the time being.

They will simply reopen them in September, when they can blame the schools on the increase in cases, simple decision really.

I have been knacker drinking for months now, I am genuinely not missing them being opened. Where else in Europe can I drink a gallon for a tenner?

If you actually read any of my posts, you'd see that I actually agreed with his questioning of the government on this issue.

The nuance is obviously lost because there are only two positions in your world - the government is great or the government are spineless idiots.

How come we never entered a state of emergency like other EU countries did?? Oh yeah, Coveneys mates needed Bulgarians to harvest strawberries.

The virus must be more potent after 11pm.

If you want a pint and no food you sit outside

    Seems reasonable to me

I will comply to wearing a muzzle. They lower the immune system and effect breathing. Come wintertime many will not be able to fight the winter Flu because of this, but the "experts" already know this.

But, seriously that's pure bollox about the pubs closing permanently.

We're not quite the nanny state yet.

The dawn of the new puritanical age. Not content with turning a blind eye to something thats not for them they have to attempt to tear it down. People come here in vast droves and spend billions and a large attraction for them is the Irish Pub. That's why there are thousands of them globally.

I said a while back I thought pub openings would be delayed by a few weeks at least.
    No big shock :(

Wearing a muzzle is letting the spinless government off the hook for not having the balls to control our borders.
If you agree with them expect to wear the muzzle for a few decades. They should not be allowed get away with this.

The fact you use the word muzzles is hugely embarrassing.

WITH the number of human fatalities thankfully dwindling day-by-day, Ireland’s daily covid-19 briefings will now count the daily number of deceased businesses across the country, WWN has learned.

“Dozens of businesses are dying every single day due to restrictions, so it’s best we include them in our covid daily briefings,” a spokesman for the HSE confirmed.

Despite a handful of cases nationwide, some 3,500 pubs employing tens of thousands of people across the country will not be allowed to open this coming Monday due to not being able to serve covid-19’s only known vaccine.

“Normal pubs don’t have any substantial meals to shield people from the virus. Also, people who frequent pubs always get mad drunk, lose the run of themselves, start shifting each other and end up squirting contaminated sex juice everywhere,” a government health advisor explained the logic, before addressing the now very irate Vintners association.

F'n sheep wearing them think the government are doing the right thing. Pubs and clubs will not be open in our lifetime if we accept this horseshoite as normal.

“No correlation between house parties and pubs being closed”

Think I'll stop listening to MM now..
