My guess is that's down to the fact people in a meat factory are likely to be younger than in most workplaces because of the physicality and unpleasantness of the work.

Which is a good thing because chances are they'll be fine and won't die.

That's in the realm of the "doctor" saying drink lots of water to flush the virus from your throat

Yes but I was thinking more about reducing viral load and making it safer for HCWs. Something like

    https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04393792

Also could absence due to sickness be reduced for HCWs if they used it themselves to limit passing on the flu for example to their co-workers. Many workers lose out on shift pay etc. when off sick so perhaps go to work when feeling ill.

Just don’t like drinking at home. I’ve had a few since March but never really enjoyed them. Much rather the pub just for the chat and atmosphere more then anything. Used to be nice get out on a Monday evening for a few after work as I’d be usually off on a Tuesday.

The story broke 2 days ago and that report is from midnight 2 days ago where was also 10 clusters reported 29 cases linked to those clusters. Can't be sure that those numbers are from the spike day.

But one thing and it's been said by the medical crowd that its the younger people that are getting it this time around

I cannot see flushing out your nose with iodine being good for you as it's part of your defense against bacteria - but what do I know

Thread seems a bit more polarised than usual tonight.

I think it's a bit much to criticise people who like to have a few pints in the pub, it doesn't necessarily follow that they've got a dependancy on alcohol.

But, on the other hand, I don't think it's unreasonable for people to feel a bit uneasy at the seeming relish and bravado shown by some about how much they had to drink and how many multiples of the supposed time period they got to do it in.

Yes, but what about the people they might be giving the virus to?

That doesn't really depend on age

    WTF

Because they are young and getting infected "Which is a good thing because chances are they'll be fine and won't die". Are you even reading the stats you are posting about hospitalisations, deaths and the ages. I know they don't have the numbers but even the medical professionals are reporting young healthy people who got Covid have long term damage to their internal organs.

I know on the 6/5/2020 published a report on the amount of deaths for the age groups. There may be a newer report I'll have to check.

    15-19 <5
    20-24 <5
    25-29 <5
    30-34 <5
    35-39 6

Living round Camden St area - I've seen a number of pubs very busy and obviously not operating a 105 minute/food only/social distancing

I wasn't shocked when Prime Time found 2 on the street when they visited (there is more)

I'd love to go to a bar but couldn't be arsed with the restrictions - not what I go to the bar for

There are very few reliable means of predicting where the virus will strike next.

The city of Valencia in Spain uses wastewater epidemiology as an early warning system, and claims it gives a 7 day warning of trouble coming down the tracks.

No evidence that plenty of pubs and restaurants being open is leading to an increase in spread of the virus yet people here are still intent on predicting carnage once the rest of the pubs reopen.

I've been out to a few now and, shockingly, they're generally being very careful while also displaying common sense. If the place is quiet no one is getting rushed out, yet people are for the most part sticking to the 105 minute rule. There are a few exceptions but it's no more widespread than people in shops not wearing masks or maintaining distance from people around them.

I know that doesn't line up with the fantasies of raging alcoholics that some on here seem to have, but that's my experience.

I believe carnage is predicted every time a bank holiday is on the horizon tbh.

Despite the hysteria the poster you are responding to is correct, it doesnt seem any more dangerous to those under 40 than any seasonal illness.

The emotional sprinkle was uncalled for as well.

It doesn't even register in some people's minds that it is likely to be harmless for the vast majority of younger people.

Your post contains misleading and wrong information. Any new infection is bad news as young people can die and will spread the virus.

Yeah the hysteria needs to be charged down or we will listen to anecdotal rubbish until we all are in the grave. We know who its dangerous to.

Id love a breakdown on the CFR for those below 40.

Off my fecking rocker!!! Heard people outside having a good time and nobody else around them. Shock horror they were having a few after the dinner no problem. No moving from pub to pub, which will happen if there’s time limits on wet pubs!
I’m sure some ass was just peering out his window through a little gap in his curtains waiting to ring the guards

    How is it misleading?
Less than 5 people under the age of 24 have died with COVID-19 in Ireland.
