The rise sucks absolute balls, even if we know where they are or come from. It sets people on edge (maybe no harm), but fook me I’m sick of corona.

It is draining but unfortunately this is a medium term problem, another 18 months is a likely timeline in my opinion. We all have to get our heads around that.

Don’t know but the only symptom the child had was a runny nose and a bit of a temperature.

And the parents sent the sick child still to creche?

You have to wonder how schools can work reopening, kids won't wear masks and social distance and are carriers too

Well all going well we should have some sort of vaccine for approval well before Christmas and approved for Q1 2021 for those who are classed as priority for vaccine.

Oxford if im not mistaken are aiming for approval around October. J&J won't be too far behind either all going well

Not sure why the aggression is necessary, we are not pursuing an elimination strategy, there is no sign the virus has mutated to a less infectious variant, the earliest a vaccine will be widely available is late 2021 (and this is not guaranteed), all of that that informs my opinion.

What is your opinion on a likely timescale?

12/45 is 27% which is less than the 33% avg

    That's a percentage over all.

That doesn't tell you in real number terms the number of actual cases of community spread over the past 7 days in comparison to the previous 7 days.

In the last 3 days we have had 168 cases with 31 of them being unknown community transmission.

That's just 18.45%. Which in percentage terms is way smaller than the overall average.

But if there was only 15 confirmed community transmission in the previous 3 days, that's a 100%+ increase.
Dr Glynn also warned that the National Public Health Emergency Team "may be beginning to see more cases which we cannot link to outbreaks or close contacts".

He said NPHET "will continue to monitor this situation closely over the coming days"

18 months is based on a vaccine getting emergency use approval by the end of this year.

You should really read the vaccine thread. Multiple papers to read with data on current trials and timelines on vaccine.

The late 2021 timescale is at the extreme end, production is already underway on Oxford Vaccine with 400m doses due for the EU once approval is received, expected October / November 2020 all going well, with vaccination of those deemed priority in early 2021, thats not 18 months away.

Anyway there's a full thread on this.

Yeah I know, it’s funny I seen all this coming back in the first threads but fook me and my naivety I thought we’d lock down, Sars 2 and it’d be done and dusted. Couldnt imagine we’d be facing months/years maybe if this sh1te.

So you are not willing to give even an unqualified opinion but are happy to attack another poster's opinion, not knowing their professional background?

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/coronavirus-45-more-cases-confirmed-in-clearly-concerning-trend-1.4319850
In a statement, the department’s Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said: “Over the last five days we have seen an average of 44 cases a day. This trend is clearly concerning and now is the time to ensure you and your families are making every effort to keep each other safe.

Dr Glynn sounding a bit more concerned now, but says individual action can still stop the spread.

No but a percentage of it will be and production is already underway and has been for a month or more now on Oxford Vaccine so that supply is there for those deemdd priority once approval is gained.

Read the papers on the current data, I'd be quite confident based on reading the data from Oxford, J&J etc that you'll see people vaccinated well before the end of 2021, Q1 2021 is being signaled by the major manufacturers.

Like i said there's a full thread on this so I'm going to stop derailing this thread and not reply any further, mods can merge to the vaccine thread if they wish.

6 pints and if they are telling the truth and heading out for another lot they might want to seriously be worried about getting infected with covid because their liver might not be in best of condition. probably have an underlying health problem making them high risk for hospitalisation.

I wonder how many times it has to be said over and over it's late 2020 early 2021? It's been said dozens of times here and it's plastered all over the vaccine page.

I have seen that thread and it has some very well informed posters and great information.

I too am optimistic about the prospects of a successful vaccine. It won't end the pandemic immediately though and we need to get used to that reality.

Yes 6 last night after a football match with a group I hadn't seen in 4 months due to restrictions, a few tomorrow night because its a bank holiday and I'll be attending my football clubs weekly lotto draw.

No underlying conditions here, active in multiple sports and gym, thanks for your concern though. If you want you can PM me rather than in thread digs.

God forbid someone has a few pints every now and then seeing as its a bank holiday

    Here's one for yas

UK "people need to contact the national virus laboratory and ask them to prove that c19 exists" apparently they can not.
Same goes for labs in Australia and Canada. None can prove its existence.

Such a deadly virus and pandemic they have to go out looking and testing for it.

Is it now true that when kids go back to school that if one of your kids has a runny nose/sniffle/cough/temp that the whole family have to self isolate until confirmed covid free and 48 hours symptom free. If this is true how the hell is the country going to even half function.

It's also true that if kids don't go back to school then Ireland will cease to function as a society and as an economy. Hobson's choice.

Why are people so sure about a vaccine? Isn't the Oxford vaccine in phase 3? They still have another month to go in their trials which can go either way.

I suppose they're reading the papers based on the research, listening to the interviews from experts, etc. An educated opinion with a touch of optimism also.

    I don't understand it.

From the head of HR with the Vintners as per the Failte Ireland & HPSC guidelines.

Glynn can say whatever he wants but as it stands the 50 doesn't apply to businesses unless government advise otherwise.

Restaurants must enforce a limit of 50 people (including staff) on their premises at any one time.

That sounds like an order that's on it's way.

Sounds like the good Doctor has been reading up on airborne transmission.

ref 50 limit Citizens advice, I'd say that's where this is coming from .

    From 29 June you can:

Go to work, if you cannot work from home and your workplace is open
Go shopping, or go to the hairdresser or a beautician
Dine in a restaurant, café or bar
Visit religious and cultural institutions like churches, cinemas, theatres, galleries and music venues
Exercise in a gym, swimming pool, or yoga, pilates or dance studio
Participate in competitive, close-contact sporting activities
Meet with friends indoors in groups of up to 50 people, or outdoors in groups of up to 200 people, provided such gatherings adhere to public health guidelines
