Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Seems like a bizarre choice and unnecessary risk sending Vettel and Stroll out on mediums

Seems to have paid off for both in the end, too much squeaky bumtime imho! Really poor for Albon :(

Albon in big trouble now surely, just not delivering.

Stroll lucky. Himself and Gasly with identical times.

Albon out qualified by Gasly, won't help Albon's confidence.

Stroll was only through on mediums by a stroke of luck at the end.

In fairness to Hulk, even though he was on softs he is close to stroll - overall a good showing. Still, disappointing.

Massive gap from the Merc to the rest, well over a second!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,683 ✭✭✭This is it

Crazy the time between the Mercs and the rest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,329 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

The Mercs are a mile ahead here in Q3. Absolutely dominant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,526 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Hamilton did a 1:24.616. He has the fastest lap record at Silverstone to date.

    Bottas is 2nd with 1:24.766.

Think it was mentioned at an earlier race this year but Merc have the same number of 1-2 qualifying results as Ferrari. That's just mental, let alone the second gap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

Both Mercs being over a second ahead of everybody else in a Q3 session is insane

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,806 ✭✭✭CFlat

2.5 secs between the Mercs and 10th place. Jaysus.

Previous lap record was Bottas Pole from last year:

The gap between Verstappen and Bottas is a second. Pretty much 3 tenths in every sector. That Merc is a beast everywhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Hamilton found another three 10ths, Bottas matched Hamiltons earlier Q3 time, Hamilton on Pole! Verstappen, best of the rest, just ahead of LeClerc who drastically outperformed Vettel, Norris with a good lap too to be best of the non Merc/RB/Ferrari!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,526 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

    Hamilton has pole with 1:24.303.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,683 ✭✭✭This is it

Well done LeClerc all things considered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,329 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

So a Merc procession in store for tomorrow. A second faster than Max in 3rd is insane.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭Adamocovic

No doubt Mercs will walk away with it again.

It’s crazy how much faster of a car it is. Shame Bottas doesn’t look like he can at least put up a fight with Lewis to give us some entertainment.

Ridiculous how much faster it is.

I have to say that the was not a great qualifying season. In fact I think it was the most boring one this year. Hopefully the race is better and something happens in it.

Not unexpected at the front, but great laps from Norris and Leclerc.

    Vettel P10, enough said

Vettels time proving the Ferrari have made the right call getting rid of him. Sad really considering his dominance in the early 2010s.

Shame Bottas isn't able to compete with Hamilton like Rosberg did. Extremely boring up front.

Bottas is not near capable of taking on hamilton. Period.

Ah I think on a good few occasions he's at least kept Lewis honest even today.

I wonder is Bottas afraid of Hamilton or maybe team management or maybe he just does have the killer instinct to go and get it no matter what. Lewis should stop whinging over nothing. I would say any of the other 19 drivers if they drove his car would not find a thing wrong with it.

Don't think he has the killer competitive instinct. Rosberg had it and was prepared to push it to the limit to win. I expect to see Bottas settling in behind Hamilton tomorrow and cruising to 2nd without really putting any pressure on Hamilton.

Hamilton has to give the impression out to the world that he is constantly having to overcome adversity at some level... he doesn’t want people to think that these poles, wins and championships are coming easy for him because he thinks he will be discredited further down the line. He was vocal about the damage vettel was doing to the sport in the Red Bull days and now he realizes he is in the same boat in a dominant car but he will never publicly admit that. Bottas really has no advantages over Hamilton, he’s not quicker over a lap, not quicker over a race distance, not mentally as strong or aggressive, not as good in the wet and he’s not as intelligent it seems. Hamilton is in a one horse race every weekend.

Good to get a live race on C4 just to have a change of scenery away from Crofty. Ben Edwards is really good.

Seeing lap record tumble should be exciting but it just isn't. It's like Mercedes are in Formula 1 and everyone else are in Formula 1.5.

Fair play to Leclerc, he's dragging that Ferrari around the track. Vettel very poor. Not sure his heart/head is in it.

Poor Vettel didn't get much running in FP due to various gremlins, so hard to judge him this week imho.

Aye Bottas wouldn't have the balls to do what Rosberg did at Mirebeau in Monaco qualifying! That's the sort of Schumacher, Prost, Senna gamemanship that is sometimes required to clinch a Drivers Championship!

Regarding Bottas - he should have been sacked at the end of the 2018 season. Hamilton had eleven wins, Bottas had zero. Shocking.

They still won both championships, that’s all Mercedes want, is a wingman who can bring home the points and not be a threat to Hamilton, the last thing they want is another Rosberg situation. Bottas is doing what they want and is being kept honest with 1 year rolling contracts so he doesn’t get too comfortable.

Agreed, he is also a damned good driver, who on the grid is better than him, he's generally just a tenth or 2 off Hamilton in qually and often out qualifies his illustrious teammate. Max is better, LeClerc is better, maybe Vettel but perhaps not this season, who else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

Haha, Daruvala's race engineer just delivered the radio comment of the season so far in the F2 race:

Daruvala - "Can I have an update on the race?"
Race Engineer - "Just fúcking drive fast!"

    :pac:

That's ideal for Merc. He picked up 247 points in 2018 which a) ensured they won the WCC and b) he didn't challenge or cause Hamilton any problems. Perfect teammate.
