As far as I know most of the European governments are also taking a break now.

If they hold off and then take a break later in the year when the rest of the governments are at work imagine the up roar then?

To be honest at this stage its fairly childish the carry on of people. Damned if you do and damned if you don't is the attitude.

Great idea, when exactly is Ireland "quiet"?

To be fair, while the Dail won't be sitting and the likes of Paul "Foghorn" Murphy will get a rest, the Cabinet will still be working away preparing for the October budget and the estimates. It won't be full-on but any of them will be lucky if they get two days in a row of no meetings and phonecalls.

If any ire is be directed anywhere, it should be at the opposition who have nothing to do and will do nothing as always while the Ministers and junior Ministers will keep working away during this period.

Paul Murphy won’t be able to visit Cuba or Venezuela this year to see his socialist wet dreams in reality.

But Leo could ignore the very real and uncertain Covid dangers and head off to sate his capitalist wet dreams and see his buddy Trump?

    Jaysus Johnny.

Nobody on planet Earth thinks that Varadkar has anything but contempt for Trump.

They're not on the green list?

He could in theory still go, but he'd have to self isolate for 14days on his return, the same as Michaél Martin was supposed to do when he got back from Belgium (also not on the green list)

Murphy might actually do what Michaél did not though.

Normally at this time of year, when there's no pandemic and the impact of Brexit isn't imminent.

With all that going on, they could say "we might just take the month this year folks".

Didn't stop him have a wee jaunt over when Covid fears were very real and uncertain. Lure of the PR glare was too much.

Not seeing any signs of his 'contempt' either, but then I have to admit I haven't researched it too much.

He went over because he had to as head of government. Are you seriously suggesting a person like Varadkar would actually admire a person like Trump?

Nothing about any of these posts are "serious"

Just more bile from a certain group.

Interesting to see other political leaders have no issues jumping at the chance to meet Trump even when not the head of government :P

    There ya go, dude.

Donald Trump was invited to, and attended, a SF fundraiser btw.

I mean if arrogance is the worst you can say about one of our senior Government politicians then we’re not doing too bad. Take a look across the pond if you want to see what mindless populism gets you.

Gerry and the lads had a nice event with Trump

Of course we can all believe SF when they say he didn't donate

If you guys could take the deflection glasses off for a sec...just a wee sec, you would see that I wasn't criticising him for meeting Trump at all, but the timing of his meeting Trump.

You are that busy ducking and diving and pointing at themuns over there on a FG thread you must have missed that.

Given my observations of Varadkar as a human being and as a politician, I'm certain that such a person would hold Trump in utter contempt. In fact, I can't think of an Irish TD who would have admiration and respect for Trump. Can you?

Wonder if that would have later transpired as having any influence on why the yanks later decided to sideline Leo and declare the 17th of March 2018 as "Gerry Adams day" leaving Leo like a gooseberry. :D

So just an opinion then, as I suspected.

I don't know if there is an Irish TD who would have admiration and respect for Trump.

If I find one, I'll let you know.

Two people have pointed to an article with Leo view.

SF seemed to have no issue running after his for a few quid in the past.

Even when he got elected the mighty Gerry Adams had nothing back to say about him.

Sure didn't he joke about fixing the windfarm planning application for trump after trump called him directly.

Well he is more of a 'buddy' of his than I am.
And you do realise I was sending up Johnny's trite opinion that anyone who is Socialist has 'wet dreams about Cuba and Venezula'. I even quoted Johnny in that post.

Evidently you're under the delusion that a TD's main work is done in the Dáil chamber. It isn't - it's done either in Oireachtas Committees which will continue to sit - or, sadly, back home at constituency clinics and funerals!

    While we talk about planning:

    I do find this funny

Sinn Féin's justice spokesperson Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire said: "There is no way that politicians should intervene in the planning process by way of phone calls and backdoor interference."s

    then

Sinn Féin TD Reada Cronin and her husband built a €1m home without full planning permission, and then sought help from a sitting minister to be allowed keep it.

As a government politician, he has no choice but to be respectful and civil to POTUS. The idea that this translates into being his buddy is nonsensical. Johnny said "Paul Murphy" not "anyone who is a Socialist". But I take your point.

I never said anything different and actually defended the Paddy's Day jaunt here on this site.

And the point of that satirical post was to 'infer' that he was a 'buddy' in the same way the poster 'inferred' that because somebody was socialist they were having 'wet dreams about Cuba etc.'
