What did they say about the app out of interest?

That they have no info at the moment whether the App identified any of the 85 cases.

Between 30 & 40 cases in the last week associated with the Kildare factory for just staff alone. All staff tested.

Direct provision centres impacted from the factory.

So you've got 30 to 40 staff postive so far plus the cases associated to the staff.

Not watching but it seems it's working as they hoped it would.

Based on what? Where is there any evidence of a different result due to the App.

He literally just spent the last 5 minutes saying no need for a knee-jerk reaction, and saying that this is a good thing that they've been picked up, and contact tracing is working fully.

Yes, but he did also say it's a precarious situation and the fact that people seem to have forgotten about distancing. He didn't sound like he was panicking but he didn't sound super cool about it either.

It explains why the numbers have been off for the past week or so.

This is exactly why RTÉ need to stop sending out notifications of the cases every day. It’s doing nobody any good. Some peoples mental health must be shot. We see the crazies on here never mind the older generation that aren’t reading into the numbers.

Factory was closed last Friday, outbreak control team in place since last week - all workers have been tested and there is up to 40 cases.

In one sense, that's very good news.....you wouldn't want 85 cases springing up all over the country.

Are they providing isolation facilities to the factory workers so they don't infect their household?

There are 109 influenza deaths notified to HPSC so far in the 2019/2020 season.

    https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/influenza/seasonalinfluenza/surveillance/influenzasurveillancereports/20192020season/Influenza_Surveillance_Report_Week_30.pdf

Number of deaths believed to be considerably higher as most not tested and many likely not notified.

Influenza related deaths estimated by HSE to be between 200 and 500 a year despite a vaccination. A bad strain two or three years ago estimated to have caused around 1000 deaths.

Covid-19 related deaths still higher but I don’t like seeing incorrect numbers like the 22 mentioned being quoted.

Worth noting that the "vaccine" each year is bit of a guess due to the flu mutations, which is why some years it works great and others not so much.

I'd say we'll see another one or two days of high-ish numbers based on the fact that not all of the factory results are back

If we've 40 cases from a factory its hardly as a result of the public forgetting about distancing

It is good but Tony would have said this is what we are doing. Glynn tends not to give out that kind of information unless he's pushed.

Yeah only when pushed on a question he's said for example 30 to 40 staff in the factory tested postive

R-number up to last Tuesday is under 1.

That's estimated R number, which will change following todays figures.

All those on here talking about clusters affecting the R number have things the wrong way round.

The true R number (unknowable and dynamic) drives the probability of clusters and their magnitude. Just like global warming is seen in a higher frequency of extreme weather events.

Behavour is our only way of changing the R number at the moment.

At least they're all isolated clusters, they can be tracked

I thought only half of them were?

    Isn't Community transmission hugely up?

They are paying millions for CityWest hotel, they should make use of it.

Ditch the total numbers. Its not relevant when it's reported every day with only marginal increases.

Was Glynn saying there in a roundabout way Phase 4 will not happen?

The r-number is a result of cases in the past week. The clusters drive up the r-number. It is the number of people infected by one other person on average.

2 direct provision centres linked to the factory outbreak.
