Certainly sounds like sneering to me. Ireland has a very restricted Green list. Whereas where you reside didn't they put Spain on the restricted list again?
Italy has a lower IR than Ireland. Plus a mandatory mask wearing policy, subject to a €1000 fine if not compliant. Far safer there than where you are tbh.

True, I wouldn't let anyone from England in if I were ROI. Too much of a liability. I'm just thinking of the broader picture and why it seems beyond people to forego one holiday abroad in a lifetime in the middle of a pandemic. Things happen fast, and you never know what's round the corner. Like I say don't get the mentality, but genuinely hope you guys enjoy Italy is a far better choice than Spain regardless of Covid.

Would love to know why Spain is picking up a little and Italy is holding strong. It’s especially impressive given they were caught out by being hit first and the whole of Europe was watching them to see what works and what doesn’t and they didn’t have the advantage of learning from others.

Maybe it's just the population simply taking it that little bit more seriously. Not that Spain isn't, but the shock Italy got back in Feb probably left its mark and most people are extra careful.

Now I've not checked the breakdown of spains cases last few days but I know they've been including anti body tests, regardless its still very high.

Majority of cases seem to be coming from the same areas as the last few weeks Aragon, Cataluña and Madrid, the 3 accounting for 834 of todays cases.

Spain and Italy seem to have taken a very similar approach but for some reason the Italian's have done far much better.

Yes they had a strict lockdown.

You seem to be suggesting people in Ireland didn't make sacrifices??

Not as much as some would have us think. The biggest sacrifices have been made by the victims of the virus and those who have lost their jobs. Maybe there wouldn't have been any need for a lockdown if people could have been trusted. But I don't have to tell you about skiers coming and going to Italy, Cheltenham etc.

I'd look a little closer at the country you reside in for Cheltenham now before blaming Irish people.

Was a fairly straightforward decision for the British to make and they didn't. A bit like letting a load of Spanish fans into the country for a football match to a few weeks later that area having one of the highest incidence of the virus in the UK.

Last night I made a comment that 'everyone is wrong except you' that was in relation to your commentary on social media. Here you are again suggesting anyone going away is wrong. Honestly its arrogance whether you wish to admit it or not. Lastly not everyone travelling is going on holidays. People have friends and family not resident in Ireland.

Not blaming the Irish, you're totally right the UK response (England) was an utter disgrace. But many of the attitudes I see in England are also prevelant in Ireland, you just had a better government to get you through.

Jesus man, let's not forget that there are toes, feet and arms being cut off all over the place. It's like a scene from the walking dead out there

Haha those posters always disappear when there's a bit of positive news in this thread. Will reappear in a day or two with a gruesome link to a one in a million case of amputation or alien abduction or whatever else can be rustled up.

And how many people would have complications in the population if Covid ran riot? No masks, social distancing, lockdowns etc? Maybe we should give it a go.

I think arrogance is putting yourself ahead of everyone else no matter what happens. I think arrogance is doing whatever you like unless there's a law there to stop you. I'm quite sure many people would have happily spread Covid around in March and April if there wasn't a lockdown and no flights.

Seriously lads, don't be wishing sickness on anyone, whoever they are. Karma and all that.

Sorry to hear Karma got it Hope it didn't do her any harma.

March/ April. Change your calendar it's now July almost August. Our government has decided it is safe for people to travel to 15 different countries. Your opinion is neither solicited or warranted tbh. People are advised to behave in the same manner as they are expected to at home adhere to local health advice.
Btw arrogance means not accepting the opinions of others, not the definition you have invented.

They were hit hard in a region of Italy where a high percentage of the population is made up of the very people who are hit hardest.

    Worst death rate.
    Worst economy hit.
Longest to get back to normal (rest of the world will be virtually back to normal, but in this ****ing ****hole we'll still be wearing masks and having 10000000s of cases a day ... ****ING KIP

Head over to the "will you fly thread".
    They'll cheer you up.

Usually references cheap beer, sunshine and beaches daily.
    Hang in there.

Arrogance definition from the Cambridge dictionary: "Unpleasantly proud and behaving as if you are more important than, or know more than, other people". This would fit many people during this whole crisis, and many of those heading off on holiday just because the govt hasn't put a law in place to stop them. They're not recommending people go, they're just not forbidding it. Of course I'm sure many of these people aren't arrogant and are perfectly nice.

No, I live here, I can work from home and have space ... but lockdown was tough in March/April - I will go mental if I'm locked up in this heat...

I suggest you read the DFA website about the Green list. Normal precautions apply.
I find your commentary amusing about the Irish and how we have handled the situation versus the manner in which your country of residence has displayed unbelievable incompetence.

Only 38 people left in ICU in all of Italy. Thats down from a peak of over 4000.

You're assuming because I'm critical of certain elements of the Irish public that I can't also be critical of the UK government. You're wrong.

It's very similar to us in that they have just under 1% of their peak occupancy in ICU currently.

Yet it's the Irish you are berating. Strange that. The Irish public despite certain elements have by and large done what was asked of us. I have no idea why you feel justified in criticism of the Irish public. If you want to direct criticism direct at the idiots who allowed the carnage in the nursing homes.

It's an Irish forum. The British forums are full of even bigger idiots. And I'm not berating anyone, certainly not the Irish public the majority of whom are responsible and can take a break from a holiday abroad every year. I have relatives there who think it's madness people going abroad and they're not too happy with them.

That's the thing I don't live in Britain so I have no idea how people behave on a local level, I can offer an opinion based on the news but there is always a bias I find with reporting, it would be unfair to castigate the public as I haven't a clue since I live in Ireland.
