So give them 2 days of high figures to scare them and 5 days of low so everyone slips back again? Really, it’s a quirk in the way the numbers are compiled in all likelihood. I would imagine test centre results from the weekend are not being reviewed until Monday, therefore don’t appear until Tuesday, rather than than tinfoil hat nonsense

The question was why 'would' they skew the numbers. I don't have a tinfoil hat, but when FF get in the door trust goes out the window (to paraphrase Groucho).

    How so?

Chances of someone dying from it is massively reduced.

    So why would they?

Can we recognise that it looks like they're trying to scare people now?

I highly, highly doubt this is a deliberate and Machiavellian attempt to scare people. I think you are giving them near superhuman powers of manipulation.

There's equally days when they under report confirmed cases, how can they be explained if it's about scaring people?

The likelihood of it being some cock up on the administrative side or a weird quirk in how things are reported is much more likely.

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. "

Though there really should be questions asked about what is the story with the whole issue at this stage.

Nightclubs are a no no. Pubs will have to open. There will be disobedience by ‘wet pub’ owners and to be honest this is happening already. I see it in my own town. One is serving pints from a hatch and doing home deliveries of cocktails and pints the other one is a sports bar that the side door is open and it’s blatant to be fair. Plenty of Gardai around my town.

Yeah some eejits already tried disobedience and didn't go too well for them.

I could equally ask you why would they not explain why the numbers are skewed. Or explain to the public how these numbers are not an accurate representation of the day's figures. They may not be manipulating them but they are making no effort to clarify things.

At least that is some good news from it

That also means the virus has more healthy hosts now. And may be results of those covid raves :pac:

Would any journalist ask the question for once and for all if a few of us all messaged the same one?

The numbers are skewed due to the way the are being reported, obviously an administrational occurrence. They are not clarifying them because no one (other than a couple of people on a message board) find an issue.

The original question of why other than "control" they would deliberately skew the numbers still stands

I was asked why would they skew the numbers and I answered. How many different answers would you like?

The two most upvoted posts on the Reddit Ireland daily thread are bang on the money
Positivity rate of 0.3% from over 45,000 tests performed in last 7 days.

That's pretty damn good considering people are out and about in shops/restaurants/public transport etc a lot more frequently these days. Schools reopening is going to be the next big test.

    and
Well I’ll take this backlog over the day they reported over 1,000 cases. That was a fun day /s

do some posters here not read the news outside ireland at all? genuinely curious as they seem to either not know this thing is accelerating globally or they know but think ireland is a special case impervious to a second wave.

The test looks uncomfortable and I know if I ever have to go for a test, I will gag but it's about contact tracing and preventing further spread.

Its not even that. Its the one up your nose right to your eye balls that freaks me out. To be honest if I had symptoms I think I'd just stay at home for 2 weeks. I wouldnt trust any person to shove a stick up my nose this far. I know that's irrational but I just wouldnt.

None of that is a second wave, just the virus spreading around the planet

It would be nice if the government could just declare the virus illegal and ban it, wouldn't it. :):)

Do you not understand how this spreads? The people you've been in contact with before showing symptoms is at risk of contracting the virus. It's so important to get tested and get you and your contacts isolated. You can't just stay at home for two weeks and hope it goes away, it's not about yourself.

Anyone see this in the independant?

The Nphet meeting was also told the study of people in Dublin and Sligo chosen to test for antibodies – showing they had the virus previously – showed almost all had the antibodies 94 days post –infection.

    https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/news/major-coronavirus-outbreaks-could-lead-to-regional-or-local-restrictions-nphet-warns-as-40-new-cases-confirmed-39405026.html

What does that mean? Did they only test people with a previous positive test?
