Well prophesied, ACitizenErased! (can I have the euromillions lottery numbers please?!)

The only thing that comes to my mind is that there must be a delay checking the weekend tests to see if the person has been counted before (i.e. a repeat test), which takes until Tuesday to sort out? Maybe some office went from 7 day working to 5 day in recent weeks, which is why it's only happening now?

Don't think it's a conspiracy to skew the numbers deliberately.

Anyhoo, I won't panic...the numbers (the real ones that is!) are still low.....thankfully!

To be fair the government want the economy opened so I don't see why they point towards indicators to delay this happening.

Do you honestly think that there are meetings occurring were a conspiracy is organised to manipulate numbers?

Would you like the short history of Fianna Fail or the longer version?

Worldometers has it but I find it to be a bit off

My current calculation including today is a 7 day average of 18.

A few weeks ago we had cases under 10. Past few weeks, maybe 20-30. Now it's 40. It's just increasing and not everyone going for tests when they should be.

Every reason to panic and get some control. We cannot afford the country shutting down. Just mask the fcuk up and stay away from people.

you understand why today is being reported as 40 yes??

Then you'll realise how the average is still 20 or less.

Under 10 cases a day was and isn't realistic with life resuming

All the above could be true, it's just annoying that there's no transparency about it, allows the copy and paste media outlets to have a field day and the politicians to start fear mongering again.

To be fair, they only give an explanation when a journalist asks them for it.
They are very transparent when asked for extra information, like the clusters in direct provision etc... Once a journalist asks for a breakdown, they proceed to give those figures week after week.

But unfortunately, as we have seen, the quality of journalism questions can be extremely poor at the news conferences.

The test looks uncomfortable and I know if I ever have to go for a test, I will gag but it's about contact tracing and preventing further spread.

I propose that we get Stephen and ACE to be part of the briefings as just saying 40 cases without the underlying data leads to panic. I'm so glad I got rid of Facebook years ago.

I just can't understand how this hasn't been asked at either Monday or Thursdays press conference.

The underlying data is published but why on earth they report anything outstanding in the previous 72hrs is beyond me. Journalists should be able to have a basic understanding of this.

Just report it on the day the result comes in simple as

At least 500. Complete lockdown on the way. Rations delivered to your door. No one allowed out for 2 months. ;-)

are they free though? The test itself is but as far as I know (from my boss and work colleague) they have to pay €50 for Dr consultation. some people just wouldn't bother....
I had a test done myself before going back to work, but I wasnt charged at all....

Bullsh1t.the numbers are never correct now it seems and it’s now a tactic at this stage.wait till you see after the bank holiday weekend there will be a big increase in numbers to keep us stuck on phase 3.the lockdown forever crowd are holding too much sway in this country and need a reality check damn quick

Ya....lets make a laugh out of a virus with no treatment or vaccine and case numbers increased everyday this week

7 day average is 18. One days numbers are nothing to have a panic about. And the bit in bold....it's only Tuesday!

Can you provide statistics to suggest that the positive test numbers are increasing?

Are you deliberately ignoring the explanation of figures or have you genuinely missed them?

    What is NZ increase like?

Not a fair comparison and I wish poeple would stop using it. Just think where NZ is compared to where we are. It's an isolated country which means it can control movement because of geography.

I never realised that graph had a 7 day average option. That gives a much better picture!

75% of cases aged under 45

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,767 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

We're at the stage now where we just need to get on with this, wear a mask (which I see v high compliance with btw) and keep your distance and everyone will be grand.

40 new cases announced today....seems obvious the cases are increasing and anyone who dare suggest that this isnt a good thing is mocked

Fcuking joke of a msg board for anyone, who dare qs the preveiling taught
You know what the 7 day average is yeah?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,767 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

We need to do something about the way cases are being reported. I don't think there's any kind of nefarious intent but it's confusing people and handing the media clickbait headlines.
This is the way it is in every other European country as far as I know so I reckon we just have to get used to it

Christ almighty how many times does it need to be explained the 40 cases cover a 72hr period.

The reporting on Tuesdays is different in the last 4 weeks.
16 positive tests in the last 24hrs not 40.

7 day average down to 18 cases from 21

Pain in the arse last 3 weeks though with numbers seemingly held back to Tuesday constantly and reported in bulk

High unlikely they are “held back”. More than likely something to do with the way test results are compiled, checked and communicated

a link to a chart that you can pick the country and look at the 7 day average of cases.
31 days ago Ireland was at about 1.3 per million now were at 3.6
Spain is at 23 per million Germany at 6.5
all country seem to be going back up
