its been asked at most press conferences for weeks to be honest. Cases have stabilised again after a small increase so its the type of question that'll be asked again

It's possible. They mightn't. They tend to ask questions about issues that are big in the media, rather than things that are actually pertinent.

And Zara King wanted to ask about hairdressers.

30% of cases total have been community transmission, 60+% are close contacts and the rest are travel

Is it possible the community transmission cases are not being honest with contact tracers and so cant be linked to close contacts/ clusters?

    0 deaths

    11 new cases

Expect a big jump tomorrow, they’re holding back 25+ positive tests

    Are you being sarcastic?

Remember when that rogue Burke one faked being a reporter, got in and started asking the dumbest questions possible?

I haven't watched today's news yet. Is the 30% from community transmission from the weekend?

    Covid press briefing nostalgia.

That was a mental ten minutes. Tony took it like a champ, until he just had to give up.

Some of them tagged along with the Gemma O'Doherty and John Waters bandwagon so not surprised by this tbh.

They created the bandwagon tbh just didnt get the hang of social media/conspiracy. They go too hard and get instantly banned.

Yup agreed, its basic but they just seem to ask the same questions based off the daily cases without any look at the postive test data etc

Someone should give them the question for Thursdays press conference

What I don't understand is why no journalist ever asks about it.

There's something weirdly controlled about what they ask and don't ask. It's almost like they know if they piss off the person they're asking then they won't be welcome next week

But I'd say it's more to do with the fact that RTE, The Irish Times are more are 100% just media outlets and mouthpieces for the Irish State

We give out about American political parties owning the agenda of CNN/Fox etc, but it very much happens here too

At least it's not like it used to be in the UK with the remote questions, they could just move on to the next question and cut the person off, which they did, lots!

It's been "add Monday and Tuesday together and divide by two to get the real picture" for weeks now hasn't it?

Nonsense, more like they have not done any homework.

Likely down to a quirk in the way the data is aggregated after a Sunday rather than anything sinister

People certainly aren't going to be honest with contact tracers if there's a suggestion that they'll have their pandemic support payments cut off if they've been abroad, so we could well end up getting a totally false picture.

RTÉ can tow the party line fairly closely at times, but I don't think The Times is quite as bad. They do have dissenting voices on there. Mark Paul has been bashing the government's strategy on there for ages and Paul Cullen, from the same paper, used to constantly ask pointed questions in the press briefings. I think Tony would have liked to fight him.

Is this what contact tracers do? I thought it was more of a case that "you may be a close contact to someone who's infected, you should get tested" approach. PUP, I would have thought, is more to do with DEASP or Revenue.

    Is it administrative backlog?

Is there some arseways process that they have in place that delays the release, I can't see why they'd intentionally delay figures when they're obviously available via your own source.

Maybe with the press conference with back to school next month this evening and reporting big numbers at same time ,maybe they thought best waiting for tomorrow.

Mark Paul has been ranting for months and Paul Cullen is the epitome of a snarky journalist! His questions have never been brilliant either!
