Fair point, with the masks coming in I haven't washed my hands for 2 weeks and reguarly invade people's personal space in shops. Can only do so much at one time.

I don't know where you got that idea from.

Masks, social distancing and hand cleaning.

    Not rocket science.

    Yeah sure.

And how do u safely dispose biohazard materials at home?

There was a device invented quite some time ago called a bin. Maybe you haven`t heard of it?

It's true though. Clear, simple messaging is most effective. We achieved that in relation to social distancing and good hygiene, but that is no longer being achieved.

Lol. Understand the question and then come back.

    Pretty clear.

Put it in a bin maybe? how do you dispose of soiled nappies, used tissues, etc.

I think even a child could figure that one out. Surprised you had to ask but happy to help.

It's like a broken record. You keep repeating that mantra but repetition doesn't make it any less incorrect,

The basics are still very much in play. Where you get the impression that its otherwise, one can only wonder.

The basics are going out the window. It's evident every day. The practices that brought us from the peak down to the current level are being forgotten about, and some eejits believe they are invincible with a mask.

    I missed that post.

Most people understand masks are only a part of it.

So you keep saying as infinitum. Doesn't make it even remotely true. I can equally say it's evident to me every day that people are keeping social distance, maintaining hand hygiene and, yes, wearing masks in retail settings.

How about you keep repeating the fallacy and others keep repeating the true situation as they see it?

We're in for a riveting thread, if so.

There's a few on here that have already admitted that they re-use the disposable one-time-use medical masks. Apparently that's ok though because they say so.

First of all we're still waiting on an answer to the important question:
Do you agree that the WHO recommends that masks are worn in enclosed public places such as public transport and retail outlets such as supermarkets?

Because your answer to that is key to any other post you make on the subject.
For example if you accept the WHO recommendation about mask usage we can further consider their recommendations for use of masks by ordinary citizens (primary purpose protect others) and use of PPE by medical staff in close quarters with infected or suspect patients (primary purpose protect staff).

Can you re-use a face mask? Yes.
The nuances of this differ depending on whether you are an ordinary citzen wearing the mask to protect others OR a medical staff member in the conduct of your duties.
We wouldn't send a staff member in wearing a handmade cloth covering.

The CDC has released guidelines for mask use amidst the shortage. The organization doesn't recommend cleaning masks, but it does recommend these practices for safe reuse:
    • A surgical mask or N95 respirator should only be reused by the same person, never shared between medical professionals.
    • Extended use is better than reuse, so it's better to leave a respirator on for the whole shift rather than taking it on and off. That's because it minimizes the amount people are touching their faces, potentially allowing a virus to enter their body. The CDC guidelines say that there's no way to predict a safe number of reuses, so medical professionals should use their judgement.
    • When not in use, the mask should be stored in a breathable container, like a paper bag. That's exactly what some New York doctors are doing as they battle a mask shortage.
    • The virus that causes COVID-19 can live on surfaces for up to 72 hours, research shows. Because of that, Rechsteiner says it would be ideal to have three face masks that could be rotated.

Despite what you say, most people are maintaining social distance, sanitising their hands and, when in shops, wearing the required face covering.

    See how this works??

We never left them. We just added the wearing of a face covering when in retail outlets. Simple, easy precautions and great to see so many people doing all three without complaint.

If we were all good at all social distancing, there wouldn't be new cases every day. So masks kind of help.

So let's get back to social distancing, hand washing and masks.

We should have a stupidity thread for funny videos.

This one not wearing a mask and now claiming a shop is discriminating against being a woman.

Cases back at home went over 200 a day for last four days. Takes very little to trigger infections.

Wearing masks could help you avoid major illness even if you get coronavirus, experts say:

Exactly, while you wearing one, you can limit infectious dose of Covid-19, so you limit the severity of sickness.

To clarify though it's still on the basis of limiting the viral loads produced by those around you.
Rather than your mask directly protecings you - when I read the headline first that was my assumption.

Less viral load means you are less likely to be severely sick.
But you are reliant on other people to mask up.
One for all and all for one and all that :)

People became infected by sharing a straw. If they were sharing straws, they probably had no problem getting close to each other.

Oh I'm well aware about limitations of masks, that's why as many people as possible should wear them. Also there's difference between infection dose or load and viral load. Think infection dose is what you start with, the amount of virus you initially get into your body, but yeah needs to be as little as possible.
