Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

She’s not sure. Thinks Chamber of Commerce.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭secondrowgal

This is interesting. Do you know who is hosting the meeting?

I can't find seem to find out; all I know is that two of the speakers are from County Councils (Mayo and Tipperary, the former an architect) and a member from Retail Excellence Ireland.

I'd prefer to see a more prominent role given to someone trading in the town, but hopefully there will be a high turnout in the room.

The town needs a real, cohesive and clear plan. No more fluff about regeneration and technology -- we need clarity, efficiency, specifics for the current trading year.

Did you give it socks ATNM??

I see lots of new developments being bandied about, new chemist down the lane beside the Hi-B, and another one seemingly going in opposite Mulrooneys. There's also talk of a coffee shop going in to the empty units at Lidl, and development of the structure in the retail park for same. I'm also hearing a rumbling that the old Dunnes might finally be getting developed into something.

Yes, report in Guardian this week about those.

Heard that LIDL trying to get the new Home savers closed down??!! Apparently they had to remove food from the aisles but LIDL still not happy? Saw petition on local Facebook page to boycott LIDL because of it.

No way, I gave up buying the Guardian, there's only so many articles one can read about the latest drink driving/alcohol theft/drug offences before it becomes non news. Also, every second pat is trying to sell me a new car :p

Does anyone install dashcams in Nenagh? I've a 191 car and because it's not the car's own dashcam the main dealer won't install.

Give Top Part on the Dublin Road a call - (067) 34390.

They supply car accessories and while they may not do installations they surely know someone who does.

Even though i have no dog in the fight, i'd hold the Vocational higher than the Brothers. Given the choice though i'd elect to send to Borrisokane.

Depends on what you're after. Andy Flynns is good for pub lunch, as is the Half Door. If it's something outside that, like salads, soups, wraps etc, Cinnamon Alley or The Pantry are good too.

A Friend of mine and his 15 well respected, non alcoholic friends who are all not from Nenagh are doing 12 Pubs of Nenagh in a few weeks and are looking for best route and best pubs to hit in town, and also the pubs to avoid etc.

My initial thoughts are the route would be

    The Dapp Inn
    Rohan's Pub
    Andy's
    The Well
    The Kenyon Bar
    the Talbot
    Louie's Pub (Mac Mathuna)
    Lily's Bar ???
    Hi B
    Rockys
    Half Door
    Una Powells

Better off to start up in Summerhill. They won’t get into Una’s late doing a 12 pubs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

Summerhill could be a hard climb after 10 pints.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,244 ✭✭✭Boscoirl

    If I was doing a 12 pubs(which I wouldn’t, I’d just go to 1pub and have 12pints. But that’s just me) I would go

    Una’s
    Figgertys
    The 44
    Rocky’s
    The Well
    Rohan’s
    Philly’s
    The Silvermine
The Quill(just to see Flash’s face when 15 people come in at once :) )
    Lily’s
    Kenyon
    Talbot

End of March or sometime in April before testing starts again -

Morning all, whats happening in town now. What is open or closed. All updates welcome, lets keep up to date.

The Covid 19 testing centre is at The Derg Centre, drive through. Appointments every 15 minutes, referral by GP only.

    Supermarkets open.
Tesco have a queueing policy, what about the others

Pharmacies open, with barriers and queues in place.

    Pubs, closed.

Takeaways, who is open, who is closed. Have you got a delivery or pick up
Restaurants and cafes, whats the story with them.

What are other shops and businesses doing.

Let us know, thanks and stay safe

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭secondrowgal

As far as I know the following are still open:

    Ryan's Fruit & Veg
    Denis' Meats
    Hackett's Butchers

Shop local folks! These small shops coming out of this intact really depends on you and your custom.

Supermacs still open and delivering, don't think there is too many other takeaways going.
O sullivans butchers is still open, all of the petrol stations. Bank of Ireland in nenagh is not of of the branches closing temporarily thankfully. In terms of supermarkets, can only talk about tesco as I haven't been in the others recently.
They are open for elderly and carers 8 to 9am Mon, wed and Friday mornings. Queuing system and plastic screens at tills. Sanitiser at entrance, and trollies are wiped down. Mulrooneys doing a great job as well, sanitiser, queuing system and pumps clean and stocked with gloves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,464 ✭✭✭History Queen

Easons still open. Sanitizer just inside the door.

Was in Aldi Saturday (won't make that mistake again) it was crazy busy. Staff very good though, shelves fairly well stocked but no toilet paperor handwash (except the fancy no.4 one). Wipes and spray for cleaning tolley(but inside second door so you would have already touched your trolley at that stage, would make more sense to have in lobbey area next to trollies) and markings on floor for social distancing queuing at till.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,464 ✭✭✭History Queen

Pepes also open for takeaway. Really good system where you ring, order and pay, then pull up outside and they'll bring food to car. Was very impressed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭lisasimpson

Nenagh Guardian will post a copy of the paper out to you for the next few weeks. If you have any older family members on their own and who are not leaving their homes its a good idea. Older people still love the copy of the local paper and its a way to keep their minds active by having something to read. This social distancing cant be good for those at risk of dementia etc

A bit of life going into the Lisbunny industrial estate with the announcement of 150 jobs by lunch box. A number of companies in North Tipp to get a spin off boast from this such as stapletons in roscrea and goliath packing in nenagh.

Its awfully depressing driving down to the NCT centre in there another operating company in there might help take the glum look off the place

This thread is as sleepy as, well, Nenagh these days.

Heading down home in a few days, will stop nearby into Nenagh. How is local business? Is everything back?

Everything open now (except pubs) as far as I can see. Was in the swimming pool yesterday and today - god, it's great to be back in the pool!

The town is busy everyday. The shops seem to be buzzing. It's good to see folk out and about. There's a reasonable level of mask wearing too, which is good to see.

All the cafes are back open so you can indulge in your favourite beverage + cake if you'd like :)

Theres a bit of a buzz around the last few weekends. People gald to be out and about. Anywhere serving food are busy enough. If your planning on getting dinner out..phone ahead to book a table. Think the hotel reopened this week too

I had a lovely meal in “the thatched” with my family last week.the food and staff was first class.
i have been thinking that that Spout road up to the junction with summer hill is looking like it needs love or affection from the town, considering it is the first view most visitors receive and considering that the residents there have persistently gone above the call for the town in making that view deserving of admiration over the years!

If you don't find something in Nenagh, you could check out PMC.ie, GP, Dr Beatrice Neufeldt. Not the cheapest, though.

I always understood that Banba Square was called after the ancient Irish godess- and that is why Jamsey got knocked down and replaced with a mixture of christianity and republicanism in front of the court house.
Am I right or wrong in my thinking?

Correct, she was a goddess in Tuatha Dé Danann.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,393 ✭✭✭Red Hare

Oh thanks Pogue Eile - Lets release the Goddess - as soon as corona permits!!

I remember all those rose petals we threw years ago in front of Banba making our procession in white dresses at Corpus Christi. God's blood'n little girls petals -
the IRA - the court - the cinema - the bank and the coal yard - all together in Banba Square - where would you get it - but Banba Quare n Square in Naynah!

    How are we doing lads!?

I've just located back to Nenagh for the next 6-8 months due to Covid.

Place was dead when I arrived a few weeks ago, but seems to have picked up now, post lockdown.

Few vacant shops around, but it seems the surviving businesses are keeping the good side out, fair play to them. Many provincial towns can look quite boring and depressing, but I think Nenagh ain't bad really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,234 ✭✭✭techguy

I wonder does anybody know of a place where I might be able to store a car for the winter months (under cover). Bonus points for electric so I can keep the car on trickle charge.

    Willing to pay obviously.
