    10 new cases. no deaths.

But NPHET and that Tony H apprentice keep spewing out fear.... "clusters" "concerning" "increase due to travel"

    10 out of 4,900,000.

Actually, seeing how another 24 hours passed, more people probably recovered in Ireland today than got infected.

    THE R NUMBER. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Absolutely pathetic government, "medical experts" needlessly creating long term unemployment for our younger generation while over 65s are flying over to fkin Alicante.

5 month lockdown for pubs on 10th of Aug, even though at that stage curve was flattened 3 months ago (10th of May). Pathetic excuse for a "govt"

No fan at all of any of them three in power now, but still Id call a spade a spade and say that from a health angle and the business side the last one did a decent job and there doesnt look to be anything changing with the new setup. There was always going to be problems and price to pay so no ones coming out great from it but thats the nature of this corona so Id be saying there getting it fairly right. Not that Id give much credit to the politicians and the best thing Id say about them is that they didnt **** up, but had the sense to leave it to the experts who in fairness seem to be well up to the job and are doing a good jobfor the country. Its easy to put the boot in but I dont think there much gone wrong in what was a poor hand at the best of times.

Micheál Martin fears EU summit is moving towards cutting €750bn recovery package.

Merkel warns meeting could end without deal as Covid-19 fund talks continue

    https://www.irishtimes.com/business/miche%C3%A1l-martin-fears-eu-summit-is-moving-towards-cutting-750bn-recovery-package-1.4308141

Here is an idea, start managing the country from both ECONOMIC and health perspective, and stop worrying about how much money will be donated to the great nation that is Ireland. The great nation that is the last to exit lockdown in EU. The last to re open pubs/bars (assuming they re open them!)

“Ireland believes that pouring more debt on debt is not the way out of this. And some member states find this quite difficult. The grants element of this is very important,” Mr Martin said."

Talk about ironic.... Our approach from 2nd week of March was to borrow, keep borrowing, and now look at us, begging EU to give out "grants". Open up the damn country fully - and get on with life. We have 0.000001% infection rate in Ireland per day, maybe its 0.0000001% ... useless.

“You can understand the logic in terms of trying to facilitate some kind of travel if that’s what the Government wants to do but from a NPHET perspective, we really don’t want people to travel for this year.

Dr De Gascun also said best way to have a quarantine would be a designated facility. “The cleanest way of having a quarantine structure in place is that you can bring people to a designated facility and monitor them for 14 days. That means you don’t have to go around the country trying to police the thing.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/warning-green-list-may-lead-to-confusion-as-non-essential-travel-advisory-to-remain-1.4308138

Do similar crazy people get coverage in Germany, France, Netherlands, Denmark?

How does this guy gets asked or listened to? Who types this rubbish? We are approaching end of July, keeping about 5,000 to 8,000 pub staff sitting at home per 1 person dying with covid (whose age or number of underlying conditions are not even announced anymore...) have well over 15% of unemployment (my prediction for end of July is over 15% unemployed) and having to read this shi*e? Why does everybody assumes EVERYBODY has covid?? Why? Whats the science behind that?

“.......Why does everybody assumes EVERYBODY has covid?? Why? Whats the science behind that?

Because it’s a highly contagious disease, with no known cure or vaccine.

Surely you have grasped the basics by now?

It does seem bonkers these numbers stopped further opening of society, like were they expecting us to hit zero and stay there after opening up portions of our society?

And to blame Travel and the 'Yanks' was disgusting, will never be forgotten by Americans how quick the Irish were to turn on them

the blame the minority mentality has really shown people up for what they are

10 cases, Open up FFS!!! How can we justify keeping restrictions?

I don't really take much notice of the Sunday or Monday figures. Throughout the lockdown and opening up phases they have consistently been lower compared to the rest of the weeks figures.
Yes 10 is good, but I wouldn't be basing it on how things should or shouldn't progress.

I went to the Japanese gardens today with my gf. We had to leave. National stud was fine but the gardens themselves were so small and narrow and the place was packed. People squeezing by one another with multiple footpaths but zero signs.

We rang in advance and both of us not being from Kildare assumed that the gardens would be quite open. They were the exact opposite. The place was so packed they had attendants getting people to park on grass verges but very little presence inside the compound. No contact tracing bar asking us where we were from. No name or number taken. People were on top of each other.

Rang the HSE live line who were supremely unhelpful and told me to contact local gardai. They seemed genuinely put out that I had rung. Gardai were far more helpful and said they'd get someone out to have a look. Admitted that they are limited in what they can do but nonetheless recognised the danger especially as there were a number of tourists walking around the gardens.

I'm not a curtain twitcher and admit to having been very frustrated with the restrictions. However the blatant hypocrisy when people are being shamed for having others over for a BBQ or heading to the pub whilst close to a hundred people from all over can be bunged into a confined space every hour, 9 to 5, with no contact tracing is ridiculous. Highlights the haphazard and selective nature with which the restrictions have been implemented. A complete joke. And before others complain about me having the neck to condemn others for my own behaviour, I left the gardens after 5 minutes when it became obvious that there was little or no effort being made to observe social distancing.

    ****ing rat

Look, it's the middle of July, the weather is fantastic well today anyway. If you want to go somewhere popular you have to make your own decisions and risk assessments. Everywhere is jammers. Trust me. Apart from the backwoods boreens.

Got some clips today from friends who live near Bridgetown Wexford. They naively went to Kilmore Quay (lovely spot, such fab thatched cottages etc. and so forth). The place was absolutely rammed. The car parks were bumper to bumper, so they just drove through and out the other side and came back home.

On average one person in every 500,000 people with covid today. Yet so much needless hysteria.

    Where’s the hysteria?

Also, just because there were 10 cases confirmed today, doesn’t mean there is only 10 people with COVID today, as you said.

Its an exponencial thing though so its the trend thats the bit that matters and then very hard to know where you are because theres weeks of delay between knowing how many really have it so you have to go on the basis of being three or four weeks ahead of what the numbers are actually today but what they might be, then if 3 weeks later or whatever and its proved that the numbers were low and stayed low then you can loosen things a bit more. What they are today is almost irrelevant. Lets see these kind of number for another 6-8 weeks declining only then you could say open up the stuff that not really needed. Which would give some confidence that the schools could open and 6-8 weeks later and if still OK when you could go for pubs and the likes and maybe travel to countries that has had the same good record. Youve got to take it slow.

The government are buying bonds, not taking out a mortgage on a 3-bed semi. The rate won't change. In fact, the rate is known right now for the entire duration of the bonds we've bought. Many of them, btw, are at zero or even negative interest rates.

I can’t believe the amount of people Spouting this nonsense.

We borrow billions now over what is considered in govt bond markets as short term ie under 10 years at a low interest rate. Happy days.

What happens in 5 or 10 years time when they need to be repaid??

    Inflation?? Unlikely

Pay it off at that stage?? Nope

We refinance at an infinitely higher rate which will be on top of the new finance that we currently require on an annual basis to keep the country going.

Borrowing 000’s of billions now will cripple the country for generations.

Plenty of data out there in eurozone Int rates. There would have been one if not two increases in 2020 had Covid not butted in.

Once the German and French economies settle down you’ll see the rate increasing. Even a 1% increase on €100 Billion would have a serious knock on effect For an economy like ours.

Unless of course you anticipate rates staying negative for the next decade or two?

What's laughable is your lot talking about going out and living yet ye are seemingly chained to the keyboard, fingers poised waiting to patronise anyone who disagrees with your views on the matter. The irony is, if there is a surge in cases for whatever reason, it will be you complaining loudest about the return of the lockdown. And for those of you saying it can't happen look at Victoria.

Easiest thing in the world for people to observe a few sanitary procedures, ensure the last few restrictions are lifted and allow society to return to normal yet a small minority would prefer to advocate for a complete and utter disregard of basic hygiene practices during a pandemic.

If you had actually read my post instead of jumping to some knee jerk conclusion you would have noticed me registering my dislike for the restrictions. I have no wish for the country to return to lockdown but when morons fail to observe even a modicum of sense that's what we have to look forward to, especially given we are labouring under what is essentially a populist government, at least in response to covid.

It's borrowing against our kids and grandkids future productivity.

It's become the latest fashion amongst the 'can't someone else pay for it' brigade.

Why would you make a tough decision now as a politician when you can just kick the can down the road for a few years?

I expect a spike beyond the levels of the first wave down the line.
The Govt have no intention of stopping air travel or house parties.
If they were serious about this they could have stopped non commercial air travel and come down hard on house party addresses.

As the Govt have shrugged their shoulders at the most obvious ways to limit the virus all we can do is get on with our lives.

The Government know the costs of all this, and are acting accordingly.

From 2008 to date everyone thought we would be bankrupt and would never ever recover. But we did and were doing really well until Covid.

We will recover again. The whole world is not going to bankrupt each other. Well that's what's keeping me going, we are not alone in this like the awful times when the IMF came in and NAMA and paycuts and doom and gloom.

Let's hope for stability, but in fairness I think caution is the way to go now. A few more weeks of restrictions, and slowly opening up sounds sensible to me. But hello to those who disagree with me, I don't mind it's a free country (well apart from the rules lol), so let's be stricter than others, it is not a competition. It is for the good of us all.

Having said that I think FF made a balls of it so far, so I'm hoping their message will be clear and concise when they make decisions on Green lanes etc. and opening up of pubs.

And I also think opening schools in late Aug/Sep is their goal without a spike from those visiting pubs and going abroad. I'm just guessing.
