The food side was really an economic one and they felt the risk was minimal on account of the regulations. In your standard pub, behaviour is harder to predict and manage, plus it is seen as a very high risk arena. I agree on their potential to reduce the frequency of the house parties but there's all that mingling post-pub, especially in urban centres that will not be in line with SD. Rock and a hard place but the call was way too late for me.

Call me a cynic, but I suspect the impending bank holiday is a factor.

Can people really not see the logic in the meal thing, or is this one of those jokes that’ll be overused so much it might get funny again?

I think its a case of them not wanting to see the logic in it to be honest.

No one could be that stupid...surely??

Have they ended that German contract?

My company have contracted a German lab for in house testing. 50 volunteers selected this week to trail the system. They have a triage cabin setup outside the building, and temp scanning at the door. I think the idea is that anyone who has a high temp on entering the building or develops symptoms at work can avail of test straight away. In addition they have a corporate requirement to quarantine for 10 days following international travel, so employees can avail of the testing pre and post travel

Idk what to say if we get a case number greater than the positive tests tonight

Is this case number the thing you've been posting about that it's not the same as the positive cases ?

Well we now know how they make NPHET shudder! Personally in favour of moving 1 or 2 to where we have none like Feb 1 or Sept 15th!

Christ, it's a joke. If it were real the government would have copyrighted the regs and licenced them to WHO.

Virgin media ramping up the we're worried about going into phase 2 this evening. Fears this evening that we could go back etc.
Taking De Gascuns comments from yesterday a little out of context

    Watching it here aghast.
I really feel for people that get their news from this ****e or RTE. No wonder half the country is scared out of its wits.

What is the logic, we went out last night. 3 pints first, few chicken wings then 5 more pints. Nearly 5 hours and we could have drank for longer. If normal pubs offered table service I dont really see the difference or the logic myself.

It's not the first time. His "problem" is that he assumes people actually understand what he is saying and are not intent on shaping it into something entirely different.

I watched De Gascun basically rubbish the suggestion by a Czech expert that face masks suppressed the spread of the virus in society April last on Primetime. That told me all I need to know about his expert opinion.

I've stopped watching either them or rte because you'd be liable to get an anxiety attack listening to them talk about covid-19. I've bookmarked the rte.ie homepage on my phone and I just check the cases every day. I don't listen to anyone's analysis I just look at the numbers.

I'm finding this quite disturbing. I hope it wasn't hot and spicy chicken wings with pints of Guinness. They would completely destroy the taste of the next few pints after them.

If infections increase, a version of a lockdown could be reintroduced.

This is not scaring people, it's common sense.

Just for the lads talking about the pubs I've been reading up about the Angry Barteder Ireland facebook page just to hear from someone in the game (I'm out a few years) crazy **** you can hear the lads fearful for their jobs. Dreadful to hear really. Lots of bartenders and waitresses etc just no idea what to be doing with themselves.

Never mind destroy the taste, I'd say the facilities in the house would be a sight after spicy chicken wings and Guinness on top them.

"If infections disappear we'll get back to normal." Why don't they say this, it's common sense?

The fact that we are a very long way off that is what is missing. That's what deGascun said. Nolan must be cringing with what they are doing with R0 as proof.

Do you understand what evidence based practice is and if yes, do you understand the developments that have been made in relation to SARS-CoV-2 and how that evidence base shifts over time?

Would you prefer he didn't practice from evidence and just made things up? Or perhaps just said things he has a hunch about?

They'll be no return to lockdown. We're getting to the stage where you sink or swim.

At this stage I'd nearly give up on the postive cases reported by HSE against the ones announced by HPSC. No idea where these numbers are coming from given the postive tests reported on dashboard.

Theres a delay in reporting somewhere between HSE and HPSC. Its extremely frustrating

Yeah I give up predicting tbh, there's clearly some delay happening somewhere and it's impossible to predict atm

So are you suggesting that he had evidence that masks didn't work?

Evidence has existed for years that masks prevent the spread of respiratory droplets. The wearer protects others by the use of a face covering.
I would prefer he didn't ignore evidence from other jurisdictions. We knew what was happening in Italy back in February who were the most vulnerable yet in March we had St T Holohan telling the nursing homes not to act unilaterally banning visitors.

I think the mood has changed in how this is being related to the public. In part because of the new government and in part because of Glynn. He's very good in the job but he just does not quite have that skill of public engagement as Holohan does.

Pubs can’t open. Restaurants can. They needed to define a restaurant, so they went with a place that serves food and maybe also alcohol. But you need a definition of food then as well. How they got to a €9 meal being the definition I don’t know, but it needed to be something.

Just like everything else, relaxing restrictions doesn’t mean that the things you can now do are 100% safe, it just means they’re lower risk. Restaurants are safer than pubs. Gatherings of less than 500 are safer than gatherings of more than 500. Its relative. But when they put a limit on stuff you’ll always have the hilarious comedians saying stuff like “oh so 499 is safe but add another person and we’re all gonna die lol” or “glad I had my €9 meal and now I’m safe”.

Could it be a genuine mistake being made? As in some people's positive test being registered twice?

Have you the hse numbers recorded anywhere Stephen? Just wondering is there even a pattern like 3 or 5 day delay? I know the numbers don’t perfectly match but hspc cases should always be lower than hse, wonder would that help with the pattern?
