We are in a fantastic position with regard to this damn virus, it would actually be difficult to get infected in Ireland now.

However letting people from the USA or Brazil in with this joke of 2 weeks 'self isolation', which is ignored by half of those who fill out the yellow form at the airport, is just looking for trouble.

There was dithering and procrastination about travel at the beginning of the pandemic here, which allowed the virus to spread from Italy, UK etc. and we paid very dearly for that lack of urgency.

Imagine trying to contact trace a 2 week journey by an asymptomatic superspreader, who ignored 'self isolation', along The Wild Atlantic Way !

Why wait until July 20th for the 'green list'... the virus will not wait.

    Have we learned nothing ?

    :(

Apparently the Cork cases are an outbreak at Kilworth army barracks with a few soldiers from Dublin who were supposed to be off to the Lebanon.

Clare is 25 days without a case! Unreal job.

Why are we not doing like other countries - you wanna come here you either have a negative test cert (probably end up on ebay for sale) or you pay for your test and wait to enter, any costs are borne by yourself

Yeah read about that in the last few days, they were trying to figure out if it was in the barracks or if the 2 soldiers picked it up in Dublin before travelling to the barracks but a few soldiers had been put into isolation

    Northern?

UK had 352 cases today, per capita thats like us having 26! Trust the Tories as much as The Chinese though :p

Can't believe people are still spouting the "let's wait until Tuesday to see the bump from the weekend" nonsense. Has this ever actually happened? I'd say some people are praying for high case numbers.

I think I'm right in saying there was 16 deaths announced across GB and Ireland today? Must be the lowest in 4+ months?

    Brilliant numbers again today.

    Very much under control.

Why are they going restricting pubs so? Michael Martin said on Cork’s RedFM today pubs mightn’t be unrestricted in two weeks.
to slap everyone on the wrist and give them a warning. Its childish to be honest

Not reflecting well on him shooting his mouth off on Cork radio like that without considering the implications and without formal public announcements to that effect.

It's an idle threat. Has to say something and it's a message to pubs to comply. But to be fair seemed to be more issue with people congregating outside pubs.

Think they need to be proactive then and call Gardai to shift them as not fair their reputation questioned if it wasn't their fault.

I was going with the general tone of the locals. I think some expect armageddon in two weeks based on some of the conversations. Lots of of “Tom’s brothers wife’s cousins sister saw some yanks at the cliffs of mother” talk

We’re definitely more than a few UK (Eng)reg cars about

I find it worrying that people identified as contacts are refusing tests - that could be as much of a source of spreading as a "rogue" tourist

As much as I had no interest in going to the pub the continued lack of any restrictions or testing On inbound travel says to me that another spike in cases is inevitable somewhere, so I may as well have a few pints this weekend

Nothing anywhere is compulsory, so why is this surprising? A positive test result at best is nothing wrong with you, at worst, well, ...

Those working now may not prefer to be isolated and on PUP again.

Only part of a story though. Better someone refuses a test and isolates for 14 days, than takes a test on goes on as normal once negative even though the virus was incubating

I'm very surprised. Boggles my mind they would take that risk with a very contagious virus

A lot of the English regs around me turn into Irish regs a few weeks later. Imports are running at over 100k a year.

Only part of a story. What if someone has to work to pay the bills and covid payment won’t cut it. Won’t want to take a two week time out me thinks.
Better to refuse the test and plead the fifth. Hopefully the’d be careful mind you.

I was one of those UK regs until the VRT reopened recently but sure people probably thought I was a tourist

Yes thats it. As someone said already just do the research and see if there is merit in claims of airborne transmission. It is only fair.

Also as an aside for any interested Robert Edgar Hope Simpsoms work on Influenza and other viruses might interest some.
Sun and solar radiation and effect on bodies synthesis of vit D fall into play. Not saying is true before people fall upon me with fangs flashing. Just a possibility
Upshot is no harm to supplement with 2000 IU daily. I take it.
Was chatting with someone in Germany last week who said their GP is prescribing much higher doses but anyway, worth thinking about maybe

Husband went in for check bloods today and doctor made comment about Vit D levels and that the results might be a little longer coming back as everyone is being tested for it .

You're allowed to refuse a test even if you're a close contact of a confirmed case?

I never would have even considered that as a possibility. And such a high percentage doing it. Mad.

You don't have to take a test but their details were recorded. Many other countries don't do this but we offer it to contacts as a policy. They are all long past being infectious now.

They didn't want to pay test costs?

I thought the test would be free and compulsory
