I honestly don’t think they could’ve handled the diamond princess worse tbh - we have flattened the curve without mandatory masks.

Japan did much better due to masks. Fewer deaths than we had, never had much of a curve to flatten. We were well behaved during the lockdown, by and large and a lot of the country is fairly 'socially distant' by geography.

Now we're allowing unrestricted tourists from hotspot countries in. Wear a mask. Cheap, easy, safe.

The curve will flatten eventually if a country does nothing.

But the evidence and science is clear, countries that mandated for masks early as well as the other measures, had less infections, less deaths and flattened the curve much earlier.

The amount of science denial since this started is actually quite startling, worrying actually.

Lessons need to learned from this. At this stage it looks this pattern could be repeated in many countries. Hopefully its not the case

Half a million views in a few days

The response from Trump's hotel is predictably, hilariously bad

He's not entitled to ask for thread bans.

I don't wear knickers, they're for sissys like you.

Debunked on here lol. This is boards, not a recognised medical journal. The saying a little learning is a dangerous thing can be applied to a few on here.

Cool. So you think the fluctuating R0 value in Germany is a real cause for concern ya?

At least one good thing about the doom-mongering is that it will help to keep some pains in the hole out of the pub for a while.

There is no published science that provides quantatitive or qualitative data identifying the advantage of mandatory mask wearing in all circumstances over other measures. Those countries that introduced mandatory mask wearing also reacted very early, so we cannot identify which had the significant impact. Plus Denmark were just as successful. We have also crushed the curve to a far greater extent than some of these places, and over counted deaths to a huge extent, confirmed by our former Taoiseach. Masks are and remain a useful control for public transport and indoor locations where social distancing cannot be applied or extended exposure is possible. But as a mandatory measure in all circumstances the evidence is mixed at best.

Some people will argue till the day's end that we haven't done a good job at crushing the curve tbh.

    Oh stop.

Masks stop the spread of the virus. No question. Japan proves it. South Korea proves it. And in neither case is this their first rodeo. Remember Sars? H1N1?

Do you think they just dreamt that up, this last January? The data show that mask wearing works - Japan has had way fewer deaths than Ireland despite *30* times the population. Simples. Sneeze into a mask, it doesn't spread as much.

We only need to make it 'mandatory' because *culturally* it's different. Soon as we get used to it in Ireland, our Flu deaths will drop seasonally, too.

Do feel free to point out a study in a refereed journal showing the results are mixed. I'm sure there's been a study done, right? This is why all the Western public health experts you see quoted now, are advocating strongly against wearing masks.

    *eyeroll*

    there will always be consequences

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

An overall positive week I think figures wise. Maybe a little above last week cases wise

Citizen: would you have the last 4-6 weeks of cases and mortalities by way of comparison?

We have well and truly crushed the curve. Testing increased 3 fold this week and case numbers are this low. Fantastic stuff.

Good to see the number of cases back in single figures again

Similar results in countries that did and did not introduce mandatory mask wearing

It’s clear lots of places open when they had a falling rate, without truly understanding the outbreak in their county, which is why things slipped back. We took extra time and with done luck, will hopefully reap the benefits

That's all great and the Irish citizenry have been exemplary BUT and it's a big one...

This is only round 1. It's a fight with an unknown number of rounds. Reinfection can occur very easily with travel. The bulk of our population hasn't been exposed to the virus. When autumn comes we may have other strains of flu combined with covid.

You're like a fella fist pumping because he scores the first point in a match.

While we are doing well due to our efforts we're only as good as our neighbours to the west and east governed by the blond buffoons.

Yea hopefully with the virus suppressed at such low levels it will work out for us better than other countries.

If you're referring to me I don't drink.

A fluctuating R value is concern anywhere, particularly the reasons behind it.

Some pains in the hole think their intellects because they have a few new buzz words since March, like R0:rolleyes:
