Aldi - I was watching that Prime Time special last night and an ad for Aldi came on during the commercial break. It showed a family boasting about how much money they had saved by switching to Aldi. I live in Germany, and Aldi is associated with students, Turkish immigrants, and penny pinchers from the former East Germany. Irish families have more than enough money to spend on quality food, and should spend more on quality fruit and vegetables, free range (preferably organic) chicken and pork, fresh fish; bread that doesn't come from a plastic bag, and wine that is actually drinkable. They seem to skimp on food, and then squander their money on completely unnecessary fripperies like bouncing castles, televisions for their bedrooms, all inclusive package holidays, and cheap diesel cars on PCP.

I buy the boxed steaks in Aldi. I haven't found any better elsewhere. And they aint cheap!

Ashamed to use an iphone, but uses the word sheep to describe people.

You’d be ashamed to use a popular brand of phone ?

Why ? And surely then anyone with a phone is a sheep ?

I’d be having a word with myself if I was you.
I do think it's mad the amount of self-worth people put into their cars. There's a chap that used to live across the road from me. Didn't know him very well, but he had a brand new white BMW saloon. He used to park it at an angle in his driveway with the wheels turned, all the time. I'd say he was out cleaning the wheels on it every weekend and giving it a proper wash and wax. Car was kept immaculately clean and he was forever taking photos of, and with, it (often with completely unnecessary sunglasses)

You mention twice how you didn’t know this lad yet you know he puts all his self worth in his car ?? How ? Because he takes care of it ? If I had a brand new car I’d be out washing it regularly too.

I’m just amazed people are so feckin judgemental of others and their choices.. Can’t help feeling most of it is driven by pure jealousy..

Their weekends are spent sinking pints of Heineken, watching rugby and wearing sunglasses in doors. They go home with their equally self important wives, but no sexual intimacy is attempted as years of office work and terrible Danish beer has killed the urge.

    Heineken is Dutch.

So you see, I'm not a clueless sheep.

You could buy hardware at half the price and install the OS it's based on in it.

    So yeah. Sheep :)

As for me, I'm a childless man with a 12 year old, 7 seater ford Galaxy, and I love it. I had one before, and missed it when it was got rid of (wrote off/accident). I'd say loads of people think it's a big pile of sh/te, but I love it. :D

I really doubt anyone cares about what “condition” your 7 seater car is in.

Unless they know that you use it for work they’re probably more concerned that one day they’ll be telling the cops that they should have seen all the “signs”.

    The tide is turning…

No need, the enthusiasm that exists for buying the latest model ensures that the secondhand stuff can be bought for a reasonable price.

I'm not brand driven, but they are noticeably smoother to work on.

People in their Nike tracksuit, and knock-offs, around town are all knackers...

    I was mostly right.

People who wear obviously visible brand names on the clothes. So the first thing you see is Gucci, for example. It's reasonable to assume that without even talking to you, the first thing they want you to know about them is they wear Gucci. That's a -1 in my book.

Similar with most conspicuous consumption Range Rovers are a big negative in my book.

I've never taken part in the iPhone vs Android wars. I've only ever had 3 smart phones since I goty forest one in 2012 and they've been 2 Android and 1 Apple. I've always had a flip case on my phones anyway so nobody knows what brand I'm using.

Any of the Specially Selected range aren't cheap but usually are good gear.

    Apple - easily influenced.

absolutely, fooled into believing they've a premium product by Apples genius marketing department whereas in reality they have a mid range device which is several years behind Android in many respects.

Ha, I knew YR was owned/made by Robt. Roberts but didn't realise it was made in Donegal! According to Wikipedia, it seems you're right!

Also, it appears HP is made in the Netherlands now.

That Wiki is way out of date YR is owned by Jaymark in Ashbourne and manufactured in Cabra in the bachelors site

There was a thread on here some years ago where people were admitting to their prejudice of others based on the prefix of their mobile phone number. Stupid is as stupid does.
Recent threads in Motors show some prejudice still around numbers.
And don't get people started on reg plates (county) :D

A lot of you may do it without realising.

Advertising is very subtle and will influence you without your knowledge or realisation. Many times it will work subconsciously.

This is true, to a point. But it has always been overstated enormously by Advertisers who are attempting to Advertisine their value to clients.
I'd struggle to think of a product I spend my money on because of an Advertisement. Usually I rely on research, particularly online research.

This is my point. A lot of advertising appeals to your subconscious mind.

The amount of subliminal advertising is incredible. I imagine that this is understated by the industry if anything

They certainly aren't understating, first and foremost they're advertising to potential clients, which is why they talk up their Jedi mind tricks so much (the effectiveness of which conveniently cannot be accurately measured). It certainly has an effect, and had even more of an effect in the past - the high point of branding in the 1990s and 2000s was well covered by Naomi Klein's No Logo. People have moved on though. An internet savvy and better educated market that grew up with Advertising is better able to filter it out. Look at most Ads we have now and they don't have much artifice to them; it's typically either describing a "deal", shouting at you or using a jingle to stick in your head. A lot of "subliminal" advertising gets lauged at for its lack of subtletly, like your man cracking Heino's at the climax of a James Bond film.

I don't think the Heineken in a film is meant to be subliminal. It's more about overall branding and keeping the brand current, it's in a film, tomorrow it's the ad one sees, it's the Heineken Cup. I think it's part of an overall brand reinforcement rather than being subliminal. I think the subliminal is the way the e's appear to be smiling.

Staying on beer, no amount of "beech wood aged", clydesdales or a classic blues riff will convince me Budweiser isn't p!ss.

First they came for the socialists...

Its remarkable how fanatical some Android users are. The mere existence of a different kind of device and OS drives them wild.

But I dont judge an Android user by his brand, I have had one myself, but the anti-Apple guys with their spittle flecked arguments are a bit much.

Couldn't agree more. Most American beers but Bud in particular. Dreadful stuff. I'm not a craft beer type either, Carlsberg or something from Czech Rep and surrounds does me.

If you eat at somewhere such as chopped your a hipster and you will move into the next fad.

Disagree with this, bought a burrito in Chopped not long ago, it was the best burrito ive ever eaten while also healthy. Theres such a demand for healthy fast food. Can only be a good thing.

I got my eyes tested and still wear Superdry. I’m in too far now to make a u-turn, and there’s no easy way out.

Isn’t YR sauce made in Donegal?

Go away with your sweet Chef sauce. If I wanted to eat like a child I’d have a bowl of Sugar Puffs

:D:D Just admit that your an old buck and all you can now taste is strong flavored rancid ****e like YR. Chef is king.

By the way can a mod ban the apple/android bus wakners from the thread.

Absolutely. Always polishing it up and hanging around the post office on children's allowance with a few tunes playing.
