Just finished the COVID documentary on RTE. That woman who couldn't go to her husband's funeral is heartbreaking. After watching this it's great to see the 0 next to St. James' hospital on the HSE daily updates.

If the NPHET recommended easing restrictions quicker and acted on the data showing community transmission being dead for weeks then maybe dignity to mourn would've been afforded to people. If the past 3 months is a basis for continuing with restrictions then this is just entirely wrong as what people sacrificed has resulted in the virus being suppressed in Ireland.

Holohan's arse covering with respect to lack of processes to protect health staff and causing the nursing/care home deaths is manifesting in continued, unwarranted restrictions. The virus being spread did not restrict that woman from attending the funeral, Holohan and Co did this.

    Yeah fvcking right.
This virus is spread even after. death. We tend to kiss our dead. That's a vector right there. But you knew that.

You could spin it that Tony saved the woman's life but you wouldn't would ya.

Apparently New York are 'cracking down on domestic travelers heading to their states from parts of the country that are experiencing a spike in coronavirus cases' Is it really beyond us to do the same, being thousands of KM away and all? Stop domestic flights/ deny entry to US tourists, it's simply ridiculous we cant do this, especially when we're not even allowed enter in opposite direction!!!

The NPHET meeting tomorrow will tell a lot. We'll see if the government have the gut to stop the Americans.

7 of the 9 reported cases today were health workers. The quality of the PPE provided by the HSE must have a serious question mark over it.

Our ICU nurses seem to have PPE which is only suitable for droplet spread and not the outfit designed for aerosol spread. Although it has been well documented since January that Covid aerosol generation is quite common in ICUs

New Zealand nurses had the same problem but were probably spared the worst because unlike us the numbers there were so low.

Said this since march. Well done for raising it though. They are still getting infected. Must be horrible to be accused of being lax when the equipment itself is substandard.

Fvcking low man. Seriously find something else to try pin on Tony with bring the dead husband of a woman into your political / economical argument. Really low.
    Paying the Final Respects

The morning of the funeral was everyone’s last chance to pay their respects to the departed person. On that day, they start placing the body in a coffin. They bring the coffin outside the house in order to take it to the graveyard. It is the time when the mourners kiss the dead goodbye and do their farewell. The journey starts by visiting the church and then heading to the graveyard. People remain carrying the coffin and walking on foot until they reach the final destination. Once they reach there, they lower the coffin into the graveyard and shovel over it.

I haven't see the other thread. I found an article which looked at long term damage in SARS. Coronavirus can cause lasting lung damage – but the effects may ease over *time. Sounds positive but then you realise it was a 15 year follow up that showed improvement. I'm good thanks.

The conclusion sums it up best.

May ..likely... as with SARS...truth is noone knows what the longterm health effects will be yet , good or bad .
Kidney damage in the young also , but again can only guess at what it will be longterm .

Local lockdowns now look inevitable here. This seems to be trend elsewhere.

    And that will mean Dublin.

    Dangerous and false.

On the point about funerals - there are few bigger hotspots I can think of. Indoor wakes with lots of hugging and kissing. Extended time indoors. Shaking hands. Rows of elderly people lining up. In a superspreading event this virus would rip through a typical Irish funeral.

Why is the death rate so high still? We've only 19 in hospital and 12 in ICU and these have been rather stable. So how do we continue to have 1-5 deaths a day?

anyone know why Sweden's total cases have been going up a lot more than the new cases each day lately?

Umm the documentary itself was exploitation, using that poor woman's situation to pull at heart strings at a time when numbers and the media/TH narrative do not align. So spare me the self righteousness for interpreting an exploitative documentary against those that created it/have tried to utilise it for their own no longer relevant stances.

Presumably those that are dying are so old and have so many co morbidities that they are not seeing ICU.

Sorry I don't know what you are talking about.
Not attending funerals is a public health measure.
    He's the CMO.
Trying to tug at heart strings to blame him for the poor woman not being able to see her dead husband is on you.

Why can't we agree not to talk about dead bodies. Problem solved.

    Dear God, another spoofer here.

    https://www.clareecho.ie/covid-19-community-transmission-effectively-wiped-out-holohan/

6 weeks ago Tony Holohan himself said the virus was dead in the community. Unless you have access to and are willing to share the data that many Boards.ie loonies also have access to, can we please stop making stupid, ignorant statements about the virus still being a problem in Ireland. The risk is from abroad and this should be addressed separately but the country needs to fully open up right now.

Huh? This is a forum about a virus that is killing people. I think you should, for your own mental health, reconsider the merits of continually following these threads.

I always wondered this too. And some countries on worldometers too similar kind of thing I've wonder, several countries announced larger number of daily deaths than the total number in ICU/critical condition in that country

The work situation, for you? Or me? What has that got to do with your weird point about dead bodies not being relevant for discussion? Do you think the average age of deaths "with" covid being higher than the average age of deaths in Ireland generally is irrelevant?

Sorry I mean yours? I'm wondering why you are trying to push a narrative that it's not a real virus / the CMO is an overlord.

My top guess revolves around your current circumstances. I'd be pissed if my fortunes changed due to this virus.

I might even bring up some poor dead man and her grieving wife in an attempt to turn people against the man I hold responsible for my current predicament.
