Was this really all for the sake of a pint in a bar in Spain?

Funnily enough, despite me moaning endlessly about the restrictions, I think the biggest threat is air travel.

I’d welcome some normality in Ireland for awhile at least before getting flights going again.

Has been called out multiple times in the past. MULTIPLE times.

When faced with a travel abroad question, OP posted "I travel abroad once every 3 to 4 years so restrictions arent really affecting me"

I wasn't faced with a travel abroad question. I was making a contribution. You've also made up that quote. That's not what I said. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make either way.

Okay - so. 2 weeks since my last city centre trip, and it looks even worse......

1 - still no music in shopping centres. Is music contributing to covid spread? As is - with 25-40% of shops still closed in Jervis and Ilac (which is VERY VERY worrying) its genuinely like walking in a morgue.

2 - Tons of places on Henry st closed permanently. Every 4th shop closed permanently. Every 3rd shop still seems to be in temporary closure.

3 - poor poor shop assistants, standing there in empty shops wearing those masks, looking very unapproachable (actually looking terrified). Mask take up was less than 1 % on today's observations...

4 - one particular place, perfume shop in Ilac, looked absolutely miserable - 2 customers in the shop allowed. 2. at a time.:mad::mad:

5 - queues queues queues, and yet again get into the shop and people are climbing on top of each other. Its just laughable how stupid the whole thing is.

In general the whole shopping experience is non existent, as geniuses posting here praising takeaways what good is your takeaway in city centre during regular shopping hours, when people get hungry for lunch? Go look for a bench full of bird crap to sit on? in this weather? Or eat while you walk? All in all last 2 weeks, 3 weeks even since 8th of June I wouldnt be surprised if shops barely made 20-30% of pre covid sales.

    Wait, so...

No muzak in shopping centres? HALLELUJAH! As someone who used to work in one, thank Christ for that! I really hope we retain that - at least get us one xmas without the centre manager's "Christmas Hits Vol 3" CD on loop!

I'm puzzled though - the shops are like wastelands with some only letting in two at a time - but people are climbing over each other? Is it just the two people in the perfume shop dry humping each other, or what?

Basically this whole lockdown has been a barometer to test who is the most corrupt country and we are showing we are clearly head and shoulders above our European neighbours as the most corrupt nation in Europe, with shills in the media and on boards keeping everyone in line while they fill their pockets.

The ruling classes are making hay in the Bond Market for as long as they can basically get us to take it,and who is gonna pay it back off course,we all know who is,but they will have their pockets lined and be well able to absorb the shocks that's coming.

You really should at least attempt to read posts before replying with gibberish attempting to evade uncomfortable truths.
Belgium attributed practically all deaths during this period toCovid-19. Sweden only attribute Covid-19 deaths to those that tested positive before passing.

The matter your posts is so clearly scrambling to avoid.

You were attempting to compare Belgium to Sweden. A pears and apples comparison. If we are going to compare Sweden to others then only fair that it is on a like for like basis, geographically, socially and culturally.
Sweden`s Nordic neighbouring countries of Norway, Denmark and Finland fit all those criteria.

Norway, Denmark and Finland all used lockdown and have combined deaths from Covid-19 of 1,172.
Sweden who did not use lockdown have 5,280 deaths from Covid-19.
Norway, Denmark and Finland have a combined population of 16 million. Sweden`s population is 10 million.

To save you doing the maths, Sweden`s deaths are 7 times greater than their three Nordic neighbours who used lockdown.

So number of worldwide covid deaths is overstated due to Belgium counting all deaths in period of 3 months as covid - yes or no?

You dont need to save me the maths, 0.05% of Swedish population died with covid.

0.006% of worlds population died with covid.

    :(

    To posters above me

    There are shops with queues
There are shops with queues, with 2 customers inside at a time
There are shops with no queues, and no customers inside
There are permanently closed shops. There are a lot of these.

I know economics is a tough thing to grasp, but do you think above is how we will be until a vaccine (assuming such is developed)? If the answer is no - whatever we are doing now is just needless economic damage, that will not be reversed regardless how much Paschal borrows.

Reality is, CSO will come out in July and say June's unemployment 20-22%. July's unemployment will be 16-18%. And this is where it will stay to year end.

But you dont think about that, you just worry about number of new cases, or you are weirdly delighted about shopping centres not having any music and feeling like a library. You are a great example of what Tony H can do with his tune playing on RTE every day.

When hundreds of thousands will lose 350 euro a week, things will get very nasty indeed. Its a little gift from FG to FF and M Martin, end of August.

The quarantine advisory will be lifted on the 9th, but I'd have no problem isolating if needed. People need to exercise a little bit of critical thinking and risk analysis rather than just trying to impose their opinion on others. I was wearing a mask when shopping in March and had people trying to lecture me about how masks were useless. Some of the same people are now wearing masks while outdoors and saying I shouldn't be travelling abroad. If they keep up the irrational scaremongering and the prices stay low, I might get to grab another bargain break to a virus free zone in late August.

That’s brilliant, I didn’t think travel restrictions were being lifted on the 9th ! Enjoy your holiday !

This is how it’s going to be now. It’ll be even quieter when everyone stops getting their 350 a week. A lot of places in Galway are closing until next year.

San Marino, Isle of Man, Brunei, Aruba, Barbados, Liechtenstein, Sint Maarten, French Polynesia, St. Vincent, Timor, Granada, New Caledonia, St. Lucia, Laos, Dominica, Fiji, Lanzarote, St. Kitts, Falklands, Greenland, Vatican, Montserrat, Virgin Islands, Caribbean Netherlands, St. Baarth Anguila, St. Pierre, and many other regional islands and zones that are virus free.

And aircraft are exactly renowned as virus-free zones due to the enhanced cleaning protocols that were implemented following a SARS incident in 2003.

    https://www.who.int/csr/sars/travel/airtravel/en/

That is why there was no outbreak of Covid-19 amongst air crew in March and April when they were flying infected people around the world with no social distancing or mask protocols.

But somehow you think I am the deluded one.

They were never motivated by concern for the economy, at least not above self interest. It's all an act, tragically lacking in any awareness, honesty or accountability.

In other words, they're absolutely full of it, making use of a handy cause for that veneer of respspectabilty for their insincere arguments.

The proof is in how quickly the Irish hospitality industry, which they all were so, so, supposedly concerned about is being treated as the last possible option they'd even consider spending their money in. Pro-economic brigade my arse. Me-Feiners the entire lot of them

I have already told you they were by Belgium any why.

That does not mean the number of Covid-19 deaths are overstated world wide. The opposite in fact as many countries are under-counting. Your own heroes alone only count those who have tested positive for Covid-19 before they pass. And they are far from being the worst worldwide.

Interesting you should mention deaths in 3 months and percentages

Your heroes Sweden last year had total deaths of 88,766.
For a 3 month period that would equate to 22,192.

Now, as you said about Belgium, wait for this.
In the last 3 months the 5280 who have passed in Sweden after testing positive for Covid-19 equates to 27% of total deaths for a Swedish average 3 month period.

    :(

Was in one garden centre yesterday and their layout actually contributed to it being hard to adhere to social distancing. They had a one way system and had alternative routes blocked off. Not great if you're trying to give browsing elderly customers a wide berth.
Some shops have been good but others aren't helping their causes when it comes to creating happy shopping experience.

    Good for them.

I may be mssing something, but that doesn`t explain if there were supposedly no shoppers according to the poster, yet there were queues outside and shoppers inside were so crowded they were up on each others backs though does it?

    Today's Numbers: 1 death, 3 cases.

Went for chipper last night, queue of about 5 people outside - fcuk that.

Same in Tesco - fcuk that.

    Aldi was normal - grand.

Killing our economy slowly but surely all because of a few cases of Covid19 everyday. Utter madness that will affect us for decades to come.

Stay at home if you're vulnerable to it, let the rest of us live our lives normally.

Are you giving out about the government ruining the economy while not queueing for chips cos there were 5 people in front of you? Sure most chippers would have 2 or 3 people in the queue pre Covid.
