2 big victories announced by Trump administration in last few days.

Trump administration has won a federal court ruling forcing hospitals to reveal the true prices of health care appointments, surgeries etc. Previously this wasn't revealed to the public.
It allows patients to shop around for better priced and quality care.

Trump also signed an executive order designed to strengthen child welfare programs. The goals strengthen adoption systems and support at risk families leading to less need for child services to split up families. There are almost half a million children in the adoption system.

Of those who spend their childhood in care homes until they become adults 40% become homeless, half are unemployed by age 24, over 25% end up in prison and 1 in 4 face post traumatic stress disorder.

And while he was doing that the US hit 125k deaths and rising. I'm not saying the above is a bad thing but in the grand scheme of things he should be focusing on COVID and nothing else.

Court case was started in june 2019

There are hundreds of different departments.

State governments are in charge of their own areas. Research federal governance system.

    And do what exactly?

Each state needs to take measures. America is basically a continent.

AHA sues. Lost. This is the AHA suing and losing. Appeal yet to come (other #IMPOTUS attempts to lower prices have failed int he courts.) Nothing's changed, yet. More competition might be good, but tighter controls on prices would be more effective. Medical care prices haven't gone anywhere but up, year on year.

This is an exec order coming to fruition. Congratulations. Where are you getting your child care->homeless statistics? At least one study says it is not good for men placed into foster care at ages 13-18, but not worse than non-fostered children placed into care prior to age 13.

And, how's that virus thingy doing?

Maybe provide some overall guidance and leadership? Maybe stop providing a bad example by refusing to wear a mask and constantly downplaying the threat posed by the virus? And maybe he could stop encouraging people to disobey the rules and stop holding mass meetings that potentially could lead to a huge upsurge in cases?

Any of the above would be a start.

Even if he just shut the hell up and stopped interfering, that would be a huge improvement on his contribution to date.

This is whataboutery. Challenge the sustance of the post if you wish, but let's not have every post become "But what about Covid!?!"

There's plenty of things to talk about without getting into that.

    Thanks

Actually, if he simply stopped tweeting and pushing his snout in front of the cameras at every opportunity and let more attractive delegates do his campaigning, he'd likely start climbing in the polls. It's when he babbles incoherently and gets his babbling dissected that he slumps in the polls.

Take a leaf from the Biden book, which is paying off so well at present at no cost to Biden.

The Us FDA and national telecom and information administration have launched a 120 day pilot program to help reduce the availability of unapproved opioid drugs offered online.
Internet companies will inform the fda of websites offering sale. The Fda will then investigate and act.

One of Trumps main goals was to tackle the opioid epidemic that has gripped the US. He has personally signed off on the plan

Can you perhaps why the opiod crisis is a national one that needed a national response and you're claiming hospital policy is a national win for trump above but Covid is a state problem?

Just curious as to the rationale.

So doing all this work is why he has been moaning that he hasn't got away to play golf this weekend.
His substitute VP Pence was doing the lying for him yesterday at the Covid 19 briefing, whilst Trump was trying with signing an Executive Order to distract.

So you want nicely worded speeches?

So you want nicely worded speeches?

It'd be a start if they were comprehensible. Like, 'this is what we're going to do:'

Action's way too much to hope for from this administration. It's the only thing saving the world imo.

So you want nicely worded speeches?

It's a big issue when the president actively discourages wearing masks and goes as far as hosting large events in confined spaces. The president should actively lead in terms of demonstrating that he is following guidelines. Instead he's ignoring the advice of experts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 900 ✭✭✭Midlife

A coherent policy from the top that is based on the good of the US.thata what's lacking. Even an attempt at a policy based on the good of the US citizens. That's what most countries did. They tried.

Even Trump fans have to admit that all of Trump's decisions on this are with regard to how he comes out of it.

Fauci's in, then he's not, briefings are on, then they're not. National advice, then up to states, wear a mask but not me, travel ban but massive rallies OK.

He doesn't have a strategy, literally doing what loses him the fewest votes.

That's the leader they voted for

So you want nicely worded speeches?

Leadership would be kind of a start for the leader of the country alright yeah.

Reduce it to whatever you want so can scoff at it, doesn't make a blind bit of difference. Stating the US is basically a continent is also nothing more than red herring at the very most, it is comparable to the EU for example but the marked difference isn't as good for Trump, and worse still looking at how the EU was getting hit initially gave them a heads up and more time to react in the US, but nope. Instead allow it to flood in from the EU while harping on about a travel ban from China, an eye roll emoji would be appropriate for a change there.

I think that when you are elected to lead a country the minimum expectation is that you actually lead.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

I don't think anyone cares about "nicely worded". They generally care more about speeches that reassure, that make people feel confident about what the Federal government is doing.

Instead, Trump prefers to "make jokes" about defunding testing from a campaign rally (which he then said he wasn't joking about, which flew in the face of what his advisors said).

Even if it was a joke, do you think it's appropriate for a president to make jokes about cutting funding to something that could end up saving tens of thousands of lives?

Also, this was announced 3 weeks ago.
Just shows the desperation to praise dear leader.

These are not particularly 'big victories', they are good and useful bits of legislation passed in the normal course of government and signed off by the president - he signed what he was asked to sign, he was not actively pursuing either of them. That you had to go hunting for a couple of useful things that he has done says a lot.

But following on from 'good things Trump has done, it would be useful to know what he will be promising for his next term. Sean Hannity gave him a nice softball question in an interview - basically what are your main priorities for your second term - and his answer was an incomprehensible word salad

This was the answer - both video and transcript.

Would you like to tease this out for us and tell us what he says we might expect in terms of potential big victories for the next round?

Isn’t it about time Biden named his running mate ?

Isn’t it about time Biden named his running mate ?

Mike Pence as announced on July 14th in 2016
Tim Kaine was announced July 22nd (Clinton).
Paul Ryan was announced on August 11th (2012 with Romney).
Sarah Palin was announced on August 29th in 2008.
Joe Biden was announced on August 22nd in 2008.

So it's not likely for another 3-6 weeks, maybe even a little more. Give how Trumps campaign can't get anything go stick tgo Biden despite their best efforts, my guess is the Democrats hold off until at least the end of July or start of August.

Trump's bestie Putin has been offering bounties to the Taliban to kill US soldiers in Afghanistan. Trump has known this since March.

All while Trump does Putin's bidding on the international stage, including trying to get them readmitted to the G7.

Fairly mad that a US President continues to act on behalf of a regime that is literally offering prize money for killing US soldiers. I'd have thought that's pretty treasonous.

    From NY Times reporting.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/26/us/politics/russia-afghanistan-bounties.html

Interesting that there has been no comment on this story from Trump supporters here.

I would have thought that it would be highly noteworthy that Trump has seen fit to do nothing except continue to support the Russian regime despite that same regime offering and indeed paying bounty money to Taliban and others who kill US soldiers. It appears to be a prima facie smoking gun that the Russian regime holds severe compromising influence over Trump.

The same goes for Boris Johnson, who would have also known about the same Russian bounty for killing UK soldiers, and has similar questions to answer as regards compromising Russian influence over him, his government and the Brexit campaign.

This to me seems like an utterly explosive story, yet it doesn't seem to be gaining much traction so far.

    I wonder why that is.

Whatever happened to Trump's grand promises on infrastructure?

To the best of my knowledge he's done literally nothing.

How do you know nothing was done? Did Russia announce to the media that they were offering rewards to kill coalition troops? No
Why would deity the UK or US announce to the media anything of the kind?

Do you think everything that happens in politics or military moves are announced to the public? Especially something so sensitive

    Real life

    Why so defensive?

Wouldn't the obvious response to a story like this be to say "this looks really bad" rather than to default try and find excuses for Trump or imagine that it's not true?

Trump has known about this since at least March.

This month, June 2020, Trump implored for Russia to be readmitted to the G7.

Do you think this is an appropriate response as regards a regime which is offering bounties for killing US soldiers?

    That's obviously not the case
