Here it, its reported now. Nursery in the UK reporting a cluster of cases.

We need to tske this seriously going forward. Like how will social distancing work in creches here?

How about schools come September. Class size is usually high here in Ireland.

    That video is crazy.

There was no social distancing there and no masks.

If this covid situation was applied to when I was younger and if I behaved like that risking an infection and bringing it home, you can bet I would be feeling how a brush breaks.

HSE report has ICU at 12, increase of 3.

General beds has dropped yet again to 25 tho. Even in the small numbers it seems to be steadily falling.

25 in hospital, down from 31

12 in ICU, increase of 3, no deaths last 24 hours.

Very interesting in how we can track spread via small genetic changes.

I think I came across something else a while ago saying how there were many introductions of infection in UK. Probably same here. No patient zero as such, but a huge number of them

Just had a look at it there, in the general beds Beaumont and Tallaght both with the most at 4.

Hopefully this'll be down to under 10 in total across
    the country during next week.

I read that there was actually a few infections here directly from China which I found really interesting. I assume the vast majority of ours came from Italy.

Interesting. I don't have the know how to interpret the genomic data, but it's great that we can track it that way. Has been a real learning experience for me.

The 2 people hospitalised and subsequently found to be infected in Cork in February had the Wuhan strain , but they still have no idea how those people got it , as there was no history of travel or contact .
Does that mean they were in contact with an asymptomatic carrier who may have been travelling or in contact with someone who was infected with the virus ?
The virus has to get from country to country somehow

Exactly yes. That specific story actually suggests that community spread was happening in Ireland as far back as late January/early February!

Not sure if this has been posted yet but Houston reached 100% ICU status today - they're moving into overflow.

And how much overflow do they have? At the rate some states are going any overflow surely won't last long

Their estimated capacity is about ~12 days worth. But based on previous projections, it's probably less.

Best case scenario according to Fauci is Vaccine in early 2021 with 200-300 million doses. 7.8 billion people on the planet, 60% is 4.6 billions doses. So that is 1/15th of what is required.
There have been several big contracts already signed for vaccines. Astra Zeneca alone is planning on 1.4 billion doses minimum, similarly Moderna/Lanza 1 billion (minimum), J&J probably another billion or two then you have Pfizer, Sanofi, Innovio etc. That's also not counting what the Chinese will do with their vaccines, I expect them to produce billions of doses also.

I'll be first in line for the vaccine when it's available to me, both for me personally and for my community. If other people don't want to get it, that moves me up the line - happy days. Will probably book a holiday abroad for the week after :) The Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine in particular is based on existing technology already used in vaccines provided by them, as are some of the others such as J&J, Sanofi etc.

Yeah, they are going to name it Irish Tribunal Warp Speed.

They are going to knock it out for €300m + VAT + Expenses + €250 million for inflation.

And if you are found guilty of wrongdoing youl be invited to stand beside the Taoiseach while he has the great honour of ringing the bell in the New York stock exchange.

They may or may not have moved New York to China by then?

Florida Researchers Say Coronavirus Becoming More Infectious in Mutant Form

Scientists at a research institute in Florida said studies they have conducted into the novel coronavirus reveal a mutated strain of the virus is more infectious than the version that first began spreading across the globe in late 2019.

Sorry what is a phylo tree?

Heard about one person in ICU in CUH , but Tomas Ryan was talking about another in the Bons in Cork in February as well on that podcast with Eamonn Dunphy , so that is the only link I have for it .

I know it's a five star hotel for 7 nights for 2 adults and 2 children but it's hard not see that as price-gouging.

I get supply and demand but not sure that the demand from people already living here outmatches all the tourists that would usually come from UK, US, Germany, France etc. But guess they could still be booking assuming they can arrive by late July.

And I know cost of living generally more expensive here so set the prices accordingly but you'd wonder how much of it goes on staff wages and how much is profit.
