Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Potential could it just be an oversight on the inspector not sending back the report sitting on his desk don't want to ring station

I’m pretty sure form B is just the background check. What date was you’re medical ?

Your Form B is part of your vetting process. The interview with the inspector/super is more so to make sure they don't know your face for the wrong reasons. The inspector/super are more local, and they'll know straight off the mark whether there's an issue with the family or your partner or if you've been a bit of a bold boy/girl before.

Unfortunately, there's no rhyme or reason to the vetting process :/

I did my PCT and medical the second week of December 2019. People I was sitting alongside that day got offers for the 201 intake alongside my twin (from the 2018 campaign), meanwhile I'm met with the 'multi-tiered process' answer whenever I ask for an update on the status of my application..

After you meet with the superintendent, does it take long after This for your vetting to be completed? Does anyone know?

It's different for each person, unfortunately.

A mate of mine from the 192/193 intake had an offer within two weeks of meeting the super.

My twin waited six months. Some who were in her intake had only been waiting a week or two.

I'm currently at six months, and still getting the usual 'your file is still undergoing the vetting process...' reply.

Unfortunately that’s how it is. Some people fly through vetting and others are dragged through it, there doesn’t seem to be any system in place who gets through first. I always thought mine would take longer cause I lived abroad so much but then there’s others who got through very quickly with lots of over seas living, no pattern whatsoever.

They do seem to be moving quickly at the moment so fingers crossed for all

Does anyone think there will be more offers for the 22nd of June intake or is it full.

More than likely full. Could be an intake in July or august.

Agreed! I wasn’t expecting on offer today but I think there’ll be more action next week. Surely June is full by now if no offers went out so let’s hope for a July and August.

The opening of of more businesses in phase 2,3,4 will simply need more boots on the ground to help

Based on the numbers I'd say there definitely will be more intakes. With the group returning that were attested early it's hard to figure out the timing. If they keep the same training structure 12 weeks out 16 in. They could take a few more this year. Just a guessing game.

I am just wondering For example.. if you pass all stages and you are living in Australia .. and you get an email to go Templemore is it possible to tell them you want to defer until the next Templemore training session??

What's the best way to train for the beep test? I need an 8.8, I did one recently and got a 6.0.

I was in the same position, I actually just managed an 8.8 today, first time ever.
I topped out at 7.2 before that (I think).

If you're carrying any extra pudge, lose it, any extra weight makes it a lot harder.

Do the beep test consistently, it's easier said than done but getting to that next beep each time quickly closes the gap between 6.0 and 8.8.

Run in general, be it a 5k or just trying to beep your mile time.
For the beep test you don't need to run any serious distance, but doing a 5k and the likes will help build up leg muscles and what not.

I've also gotten into cycling, it's just a nice change from running, and it also still helps keep your fitness up.

You can defer but it doesn't guarantee you will be offered a spot again as its a highly sought after campaign.

You used to be able to defer it. Unsure how it goes now.

i found a spinning bike the best and it got me where i needed to be in 3 weeks, you can buy one for around 300 which is well worth the investment considering gyms etc are closed.

spinning will keep your heart rate in the correct zone to maximize fitness and build lung capacity each session and is much better to manage than running. I did mine in an altitude chamber which decreases oxygen in the room down to only 15% which makes your lungs work harder, you probably don't have access to an altitude chamber so have a look online for an altitude mask.

i know all this sounds like a pain but if you want fast results this is the way to go, I only had three weeks notice for my PCT and at the time i was only achieving mid level 5 on the bleep test, three weeks later I Sailed through it

Get out and run the the roads and do some sprint sessions. No need to go off spending money. If you're not capable of getting up to level 8 then you're not fit for the job. Simple

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33 Dent67

Agree with banjoh_10 hit the nail on the head there, personally I built a up a base of fitness like some steady state cardio like 5km runs and 2/3 runs of sprinting like 30secs on 30secs off maybe 10 times or else start small and build up, look whatever suits I mean depends what you like if you like running run etc! Don’t spend money unless you are really going to make use of it. Eh try practice the test few times as well! Will gage what you need to do

Well not exactly. The requirements are
    Age Males 18-25yrs Level 8.8 and 26-35yrs Level 8.1
"If you're not capable of getting up to level 8 then you're not fit for the job. Simple" very narrow minded comment. Don't underestimate how much trainees rely on one another throughout the process and after training.

well said!!! The lad is looking for advice not criticism.

I agree that you don't need to spend a ton of money etc but I gave my opinion on what worked for me, feel free to do the same without attacking others comments

I would recommend doing the actual beep test and everytime you do it build it up slowly for example you got 6.0 next time get 6.1 and then keep going up. I’d imagine you have abit of time before PCTs start again so don’t panic you’ll get there

Sorry I completely misread the the part only read the first line banjo_10 message, we are fit to be here, some are at an advantage than others depending on age and level has to be reached, others like myself play football and kept fit over the winter was an advantage I had my base just had to fine tune details I knew what I was doing, get advice from someone that knows the area pt or s&c coach YouTube google anything, if you prep enough and exercising isn’t your jam, start ASAP these fitness will come sooner than you think, Leo hoping country to full operational in mid July, so 6 weeks of good hard solid training and practice beep all the time, remember we all deserved to be here and are able

Do people have pull when they get stationed after templemore? I know it’s supposed to be anywhere in the country but is that true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,638 ✭✭✭✭Witcher

Yes it can be anywhere and you'll be told that all the way through. No guarantees. In the main you"ll probably be ok but depending on what's going on in the country at the time you could be going across the country

just some examples from gardai i know of to give an idea,

    home-waterford, stationed-wexford
    home kerry , stationed -limerick
    home cork , stationed -waterford
home cork west , stationed-cork north
    home cork north, stationed-limerick

Your family/relations/previous employers are factored in too,
and if you have certain family circumstances you may be looked after, eg children

I was told by a serving member they 'try' and keep you one county / two counties away where possible, nothing mad like waterford to donegal lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 Johnmurphy321

That’s not too bad so, can you request to go to Dublin? If you were from a county in Munster for example?

Does anyone ever heard of anyone who was living abroad when applying for the Gardai??
Is stage 1 the only stage of the application process that can be done online? Like stage 2 or interview can’t be done online?

Stage 1 is the application and an online aptitude test - you’ll then be asked to go to the Public Appointments building in Dublin to sit that same aptitude test again and complete a report writing exercise, so I don’t think it’s a good idea to apply if you aren’t living in Ireland at the time as you won’t be able to progress past the first or second hurdle.

Unless there’s a serious shake-up, then I’m going to go with no - there’s nothing apart from the initial application and aptitude test that is done online, and as I said above, you’ll then have to complete that test in person as a sort of verification that you did the first one.

I'm working on the presumption July. Team contact sports are back/due to be so no reason why the fitness test can't take place apart form the staff being out in stations.

I wore formal clothes for the interview (trousers, blouse & blazer), for the meeting with the Super I didn't go full formal - I had a nice pair of jeans and a nice top ... I still looked far more presentable than the face that wanders down to the kitchen table each morning, but not over the top either :)

Mine was very casual. Never any harm to dress smart and clean shave. First impressions. Great to see some movement regarding the recruitment process. I'm sick if waiting....

I wore a suit but I don’t think it’s necessary to wear one, it’s a lot more casual than it sounds like.

Only thing I would say is defo shave and and don’t have a beer the night before 😂

I found doing a bit of homework about the superintendent helped and a quick scan of his office for any photos or sports affiliations was good to steer a conversation. But this was just Me being nervous going into the meeting it really is a casual conversation about you motivation to be in AGS and your community involvement, hobbies etc

Confident, talkative, eager and driven is what they want to see out of you.

Good luck with the meeting, it feels great to walk out after and know you have another box ticked

Hey had mine a few weeks ago, went grand. I know a lot of people are saying you don’t need to be formal but I knew that the inspector I was supposed to meet is strict on appearance. So I went in suit, so I’d say dress the part. The interview was mostly about involvement in sports, work, family, school and college. And why you want to join, what your apprehensive about within job?
Hope this helps, best of luck!

Latest Report from GHQ to policing authority take from what it what you will, seems like.good news for people wanted to apply not so good for people waiting to be called into templemore if the 275 figure is to be believed.
"The 2019 Garda Trainee Recruitment campaign continues. 125 Garda Trainees entered the college
on 10 February 2020. In response to the current crisis, further intakes for 2020 were adjusted i.e.
75 candidates have been offered a place to commence their training on 25 May 2020. It is
envisaged that a second class of 75 will commence on 22 June 2020, bringing the total
commencing to 275 in 2020. If the targets for 2020 and 2021 remain in place, a new recruitment
campaign will be advertised later in the year. Preliminary work has commenced with PAS to
ensure that if it is required, both organisations will be in a position to progress without delay"

Not applicable but you could use the data access request. Youd have to be specific in what your requesting. Public bodies are not fully covered in the GDPR so youd have to do a bit of research.
Would it be worth email hr something like please advise what section of my form b is still incomplete...
