It can be hard to know who you are referring to when you make those broad statements so apologies if that was not directed at me.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen but I sell life assurance and think of this from a mitigation POV not an emotional or overly negative POV. I think a 2nd wave looks inevitable but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be bad, just seems to be the course of virus’s. I am no epidemiologist but I’d of thought it we get bad flu outbreaks every winter , there is a solid chance that COVID can piggy back on this and spread more. I also know medically that in winter we get more flu like virus’s. That would lead me to believe that it’s reasonable to wonder if we could potentially get a more severe outbreak outside of the Feb/March one we just had.

It’s funny cause I’m more worried we get a bad wave not because we couldnt manage it but because we just didn’t bother to put the Infrastructure , planning and education in place to manage it better.

I’ve been trying to discuss the potential for a second wave with my wife. Maybe it’s because I’m self employed and you need to try and be ahead of the game , I’m used to trying and plan to navigate future issues. I don’t see doing SWOT analyses as Being negative.

    No not directed at you.
I actually appreciate that its possible to have a decent exchange of opinion with yourself.

Apart from the stark difference in the 2 examples you cited.

    You'd expect it?

    That's reassuring.

Yes, based on previous comments if a certain town in Ireland were to see a sudden jump in cases due to whatever reason, meat plant etc then yes I'd expect NPHET and the CMO based on their previous comments to implement a localised set of restrictions to the area in question.

What do you see wrong with that ?? That I'd expect our public health authorities to do something they've said they would/could do.

I've given you 2 examples of types localised restrictions in Germany and Lisbon.

I was seeing it more similar to 'Vote Joe' posters. And also, it is a good action verb!

I have someone in my family like some of the posters on here. It’s mentaly exhausting trust me.

I have 3 in my extended family, I just don't interact with them anymore. It was enough to see one of them spray the wheels of their car with disinfectant before they parked on their drive.

Is this to do with the blowjobs?

I’ve been on this thread from the beginning and I think I’ve had enough now, the fear mongering is utterly ridiculous and is driving the thread into the dirt. Some people would want to take a good look at themselves.

I see lots of these general statements here today, but nobody address specific posts. Who is fear mongering ? Can you link some posts so I can understand what you mean?

I think at this stage given the numbers are so very low we should just get back to normal i.e open things back up as they were before. If you have a pre-existing condition then wear your mask and mind yourself, but for the vast majority we should be able to get on with our lives. This "New Normal" is a load of b****x in my opinion, we need to get back to the old normal. As the NEPHET said the other day, you have one in a million chance of picking it up in the community, that's a risk I'm more than willing to take.

Fine, except the mask is more to prevent you spreading it to somebody else than a vulnerable person protecting themselves.

It would still protect you getting it to a large degree. If you're fit and healthy then there's no reason to not be allowed get on with your life.

As a barman I'd like to say that we wash our hands pretty regularly even pre-covid. He is getting very wound up about what is day to day personal hygiene for most people. I hope he doesn't work behind one tbh...

Masks don't give protection to the wearer, so absolutely pointless telling someone to put on a mask if they have a pre-existing condition. They aren't protecting themselves by wearing a mask. We should all be wearing masks to protect those that are vulnerable. But sure, never mind.

Maybe a picture might explain how masks work.

Not really. If you wash your hands and stay 2 metres apart you can protect them also. I for one wouldn't wear a mask.

The bar I work has decided when they open in July that everyone will wear face masks. I would like to see businesses consider face shields instead as silly as people might look because masks put customers who lip read in a very uncomfortable position.
Just to be clear I'm only talking about staff that are customer facing and only while in that position. I don't think the average Joe needs to be walking around looking like riot police.

Given that he dismissed the virus as being nothing to worry about, is anti restrictions, organised a tennis tournament with stands full of people and then went night clubbing without taking any health precautions it`s no great surprise that he has contracted it. For his sake let`s hope it`s just a mild case.

True, but you wanted to open all up and 'get back to normal'. The 2 metres is still in play.

A second wave is not inevitable. Localised spikes probably are. There's a huge difference between those two things.

Exactly what happened in March will probably never come to pass again barring utter catastrophe. There may be brief spikes as seen in some parts of Germany but it'll never be as all out balls to the wall as it was throughout April.

It's not always possible to maintain a distance. It's very clear on that. This is where wearing a mask helps. But you would rather infect others. Pure selfish behaviour on your part.
