I wonder are the issues in Portugal related to people arriving from basket case Brazil?

I think Ireland needs to start testing the water with some EU travel in July, at least travel channels to central and eastern European nations who are at similar level of containment

We need to have some movement

There are countries in a much better position than Portugal to open up to.

Denmark incidentally has become the first to refuse to open to Portugal.

The covid sure has a thing for meat processing factories, hunderds previously in a case in the US (Dakota), today Anglesey reports 175 workers positive, Germany this week had a couple of plants affect it's national R-value, even though it was very localised catchment areas.

Pick your own veggie allotments (or vertical soil free farming) could be the future!

The standard of hotel accommodation in Tuscany is terrible compared to here unless you are at the top end of the market. What Irish people look for at home and abroad are very different. Our standard of self catering options has been improving rapidly however in the past 10 years, whereas Tuscany are at it for decades

I never stay in hotels so wouldn’t know about that. I’m into cottages and Airbnb’s. And guy are right that the Irish offering in single occupancy accommodation is terrible compared to Europe

Cases on the rise throughout the world now. Unfortunately I think we'll see a row back on the lifting of restrictions here and rightfully so.

You won't, but I hope you won't feel too disappointed.

Really only in Brazil, S.Americas and India/Pak, but they were behind us on the curve timeline, so is to be expected. They';; likely cool down just after peaking shortly.

Probably going to see a slight slow now in the rate of discharges from hospital given the low numbers now in hosptial beds with covid

Some Non Covid procedures being carried out thankfully. My son donated a kidney to his partner today and a good friend has undergone a bone marrow transplant to help in his fight against leukemia.
Hopefully all normal hospital services will start to return to normal.

The entire of South America along with South Africa are seeing a dramatic surge more than likely season boosted.

Australia and New Zealand are shut off but even in Australia outbreaks are occurring.

The United States, along with trying to contain it's first wave, is preparing for an Autumn advance and the rest of the northern hemisphere needs to do the same and most are.

This is only the beginning of dealing with this and while we need to make use of this window we need to prepare for disruption later this year.

No amount of wishful thinking will change the fact the world is in grave crisis on several fronts as a consequence of this pandemic.

Thank you, procedures were put off several times because of Covid. It was great they finally happened. Thanks again.

Your predictions from 3 weeks ago haven't exactly bore fruit have they?

Hey, don't tar all of South America with the same brush. Uruguay are grand.

Is there any hope that the UK will get covid 19 numbers down to our current levels before September?

You should probably spend less time on here and start prepping for the Autumn wave now... if things are going to get as rough as you think, you'll need all the time in the world. Good luck mate! hope you make it out the other side.

Hope Kermit stocks up on the bog roll and tinned fruit. He’ll be laughing when the rest of us are caught short!

Look on the bright side we can now book flights for holidays of a lifetime this summer. It won’t matter now if we bring back the virus on a plane because apparently the virus is going to get us with a vengeance come autumn anyway. Enjoy the summer people ;-)

Just after reading on an online news site that there's an app nearly ready to be rolled out to the public.

I don't know how it will work but it's hoped to help with contact tracing.

Its exciting news and I hope it will be ready soon.

Asthmatics might be on the lower end of risk compared to other comorbidities, and there have been some inconclusive reports of asthmatics not having as a severe reaction as others, but that says nothing to the potential long term affects to the already compromised lungs of an asthmatic.

Covid is a novel respiratory virus and has shown, in some cases, to cause ground glass opacification in lungs, which can destroy lung function and the ability to breath . Asthmatic's lungs are already compromised, a bout of corona could potentially severely damage their quality of life.

I had previously checked the advice from the HSE and asthma ie. in March and then I posted here about 3 and a half weeks ago the following...
    https://touch.boards.ie/thread/2058081992/11/#post113586196

Not much has changed. I sent report back to them. No one has updated the asthma website with a definition of severe asthma they did add some covid information in April. No one in the HSE has fixed the roundabout link I mention or added a definition of severe asthma either.

The Asthma society website has never been great, their helpline is better, but they are a charity but the HSE needs to fix their covid site. It has left a lot people unsure which classification they fall into.
Only severe asthma is now included in the extremely vunerable catorgor,y the rest are in the high risk catorgory since it was divided in two.
If you go to the UK asthma society they detail the types of asthma better etc.
Asthma care in this country for adults is not great, they are normally left to their own devices once given inhalers with very little follow up.
Just make sure you follow your asthma plan if you have one and if it gets worse ring your gp or specialist respiratory consultant for advice(if your hospital has one)!
Edit: being unable to breathe is classified as an emergency if your inhalers/relievers dont work so just like a potential heart attack it's dial 999 and let them decide what help you need.

Yes may as well go out with a bang. With the second to 99th waves about to exterminate us all let’s make the most of the time we have left

Because of our lockdown and very drawn-out reopening, we’ve actually found ourselves now being one of the best countries in Europe in terms of numbers. I think it’s bonkers now to open up the country to international travel or have no mandatory quarantine, and completely undo all the hard work and sacrifices made, just to let people from the likes of the UK, US and Brazil into the country, and the very low numbers of Irish people who will travel abroad.

If we limit international travel for the next few months (I’m not even talking for the rest of the year), we might have some semblance of normality here for those of us us who live here. We could go to sporting events, and have small festivals, etc. The amount of Irish people travelling will be minuscule anyway - perhaps if we stay here and spend our money here, we can get the economy going that we all seem to care so much about.

This IS my mindset too, a little more sacrificing, a little more discipline, a little more time and patience bringing much more positive and healthy outcome.

The money is being spent here... not as much to go around but it’s a sensible and realistic roadmap to obtaining a healthy restart, with everyone or close to everyone ready to contribute...

    Again fûck the greedbags.
