a 13 month old baby died of Corona virus in the UK in last 24 hours, and there were no apparent underlying conditions. How is this possible? Possibly a condition the parents were unaware of maybe? How are random deaths like these occurring is there any indication yet?

    13 day old.

I'm sorry, but its not irrefutable, otherwise Czech Republic etc would have lower transmission rates than we do.

They do have lower transmission rates and an 80% less death rate and have been open since the end of April.

What metric are using to determine that we have had better outcomes then them, the transmission rate now? Yeah, that's not how it works.

By every single metric they have handled the pandemic far better than us and an important part of that was mandatory masks and continues to be.

It's why we will eventually try and mimic them.

They dont look to be handling it better anymore, and never got to as low a level as we have now

This would be a nightmare here. They really need to make it mandatory for front line workers and teachers etc to get the flu Jab.

In Japan they do it the otherway round and mandate that all school kids get the flu vaccine.

They are trying to do this in the states but the anti vaxers are getting bills defeated in a few states by putting pressure on their republican reps.

In FL we had to provide proof that our kids were vaccinated before they would be allowed into school (circa 2005) - not for flu, but for the usual measles etc.

Smart watches/wearable devices (fitbit etc) seem like a great tool in the fight against Covid19.

Has anyone here who's had covid19 found that their wearable device indicated early warning signs?

More very good news from this island

Would be great to follow it up this evening with very low numbers again from our Dept of Health.

I'm not sure whether this was posted already but looks like from this NPHET will make recommendations to government today about what's in phase 3 and 4 and government announce tomorrow what's in them.

Then next Friday all going well announce start of phase 3. Guess there's no real surprise, there it's just finding out nitty gritty of phases but most are in public domain already.

Seeing light at the end of the tunnel now that phase 3 and 4 are approaching. Wonder will the press briefings be reduced to once a week in phase 3.

    It's the salmon!
Suppliers and restaurants are scrambling after an outbreak in Beijing triggered fears that salmon may have spread it. Officials later absolved the fish of blame, but consumers are avoiding it anyway.

Seriously? You are telling a poster who is obeying the restrictions that the vast majority ( 88% ) of people in Ireland think are appropriate, to " stay at home" , if pubs start breaking the rules ?
Pubs will be closed if they do , and all the whinging in the world will not change the fact that it will be on their own heads . And nobody will care .

Could be anything including humans, formite transmission or somebody coughing on ice or packaging or money or forms or a delievery truck or driver or anyone type of seafood or other food etc etc etc....It is one sneaky virus only trying to perpetuate itself, staying under the radar and then taking off skyrocketing.
ps. does anyone know if they price haggle at these markets loudly or are there set prices for purchases?

You are comparing our daily level of infection with their level of daily infection and have come to conclusion we are doing better? :pac:

Forget that they are weeks ahead of us in reopening, but did it ever occur to you that they just may be better at finding the virus?
The Czech tech sector was also quick to act. In mid-March, the country’s largest search engine, Seznam, introduced a coronavirus tracing feature on its geolocation app, Maps.cz. With a user’s permission, it draws on location data to inform people if they have crossed paths with anyone who has tested positive.

A month later, the Czech Health Ministry released a Bluetooth-based social tracing app known as eRouska (eMask). The app anonymously detects pairings among different devices on which the app has been installed. Similar technology is now being developed all across Europe.

The app is integrated into a more complex solution called the Smart Quarantine, which combines data from cell phones and payment cards. With a user’s permission, local hygiene stations can use this data to isolate individuals who have come into contact with infected people.

Just for comparison we are still using kids from the army and bits of paper, correct?

Anyone who thinks we are anywhere near on how the Czech Republic has handled this pandemic and continues to manage it is either Simon Harris or delusional.

They are premier league, we are best 2nd division.

    4 deaths 16 cases

I remember one of NPHET saying the deaths would be the last factor to decrease because of the time lag. Hopefully both measures keep decreasing

    4 more deaths RIP
    16 cases

2 cases denotified too so additional 14 to total cases

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,550 ✭✭✭ShineOn7

Can people understand this better please?

"2 cases de notified today so that means only 14 cases and not 16"

Those 2 cases are from weeks ago and aren't relatable to today's data

Nolan stating everything is very stable.

Difficult now to get an accurate reading on R0 given the low case numbers.

    Hosptial admissions very low

Increase of average number of cases this week is because of the error in reporting last Saturday

Two of the best performing countries! Ironic that we imported cases from Sweden.
