It is great to see such low numbers. Does anyone know how many are going forward for tests?

They reckon it's about one positive per 100 tests, so that would give us a total of around 800 tests to give us today's figure.

Numbers of 2.5K a day recently so thereabouts.

I wonder how many of those are people that think they may have it?

    Notes:
Recovery rate of 92% = ~497 active cases

I have it at 317 active cases?

1/150 was a number that Paul Reid gave of actual cases so plenty who think they are sick.

wouldn't mind that too much, find that everyone always seems to go around the same time anyway, same faces each time I go in, usually around 7-9pm myself.

So long as the weather keeps nice through the summer I'll just keep my exercise to the park and the seafront but might have to look at a new gym after that.

Mine is 24 hour and I'm usually the only one there at 3am :) so booking my slot if it comes to it should be fine.

It's not old news. The new news is in addition to the theory based on the spread of the two mutations as detected by genome analysis.

The new news is from lab experiments where it was shown that the mutation (614D) is nearly 10 times as efficient at infecting cells.

The two sets of 'news' are from two separate scientific disciplines, and the New York Times is not a rag.

    Full study: https://www.scripps.edu/news-and-events/press-room/2020/20200611-choe-farzan-sars-cov-2-spike-protein.html

Thank you . I am not good at keeping links when reading and am awful at putting them up 😳
I knew I read it in the NYTimes.

And whether peer reviewed or not it is worth reading about it. A lot of current research , some good and some not so good , is not peer reviewed yet , eg Dexamethasone study .
Just have to be careful where it's coming from as some articles can skew the facts to suit bias , and get something out of it that isn't there at all .

Not too bad, expected a slightly bigger drop. 323 active cases last week.

Why is it still coming up that Ireland has 933 active cases on worldometer?

Nature is also a good site to look at as they do a regular quick synopsis of research.

They've been quoting 92% as a recovery rate without giving a specific number. Worldometers relies on people submitting/reporting numbers with an official source (news/HSE/etc), but we don't know that exact number. While we had daily briefings, they'd give a figure once a week.

That should be possible just as Phase 3 starts. I reckon any other changes will be called in advance of that, maybe even this weekend.

Potentially, I'm not sure whether they are keen to announce changes too far in advance but then again they did recently.

Could have Martin and Varadkar announcing acceleration of phase 4 when they announce phase 3 is going ahead on 28th alright.

I think at the moment they're so focused on getting government formation sorted with their members but yeah could well be time to announce it by end of this week or start of new week if even more things will be eased for phase 3.

So 933 is last confirmed number?

Premier League being back on the RTE news before today's COVID figures

Obviously not bad enough for RTE lol

Why did the Irish and British governments fail to ensure that the nursing homes had enough PPE?

Just took the eye off the ball thinking those patients were already cocooned, I suppose .
HS E and NHS chiefs should be the ones accountable , that is what they were meant to be doing .
By the way , Canada did it and Sweden as well .

The only group really angling to be included are hairdressers, who may get the nod. Pubs will just have to wait the further three weeks. I reckon the 2m to 1m may come up "but we're not there yet" will be the response to that. The only other question is when transport changes from 20%.

In the 7 days up to last Monday (June 15th), just over 21,000 tests had been carried out.

No. They added the new cases to the last confirmed number of 754. 2 weeks ago.

    8 new cases

Denotification of 2 deaths and 1 confirmed case also.

Hmmm overall that's a good thing

I just hope any clusters found won't be used as excuse for not easing restrictions as much as possible

Is it not the 26th we'd be hearing something? I'd been figuring it'd be then, since we've heard on other Fridays before the Monday the changes were due to come into place. Mind you, I suppose I hadn't factored in that's also the weekend we're supposed to maybe, possibly (I think at this stage probably, but who knows ) get a new government. I didn't think about whether that might change things at all.

I think they will change it from 2m to 1m in hospitality and pubs. But then you'd wonder how they will justify it in other settings especially outdoor say. Yeah I think pubs will have to put up for it for another 3 weeks before they all can open. I guess public transport will depend on social distancing too whether that's decreased

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,109 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    Public transport should be easy

Mandatory face coveting or no transport

Then make it 1 metre and increase capacity

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,959 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

So the pubs will open serving food, 1 meter and 90 minutes?

What happened to 2 meters and 15 minutes?

Half the distance and quadruple the time.

What should really be done right now in regards to public transport, is INCREASE SERVICES. This was done from day one in some Scandinavian countries and worked a treat.

If buses can only host 20 or so bodies, then RUN MORE OF THEM. This is hardly ground breaking stuff and can make social distancing more plausible on public transport.

You can't catch it if you eat a feed apparently......

Or Maybe the fact that the Virus is so much less prevalent now that a few more risks can be taken.

The time to do that was back in early March, there was no need to do it during "lockdown" as public transport numbers were down 95%.

But for September mandatory masks and increased services should be the norm like most other European countries are doing now.

Even if we got one of them.
