9, 9, 18, 8 so far for the week. We’re flying without masks. No chance they’ll be made mandatory. We’re almost in the clear.

Well mate, as always you talk ****e. They gonna make them mandatory soon if they wanna keep Covid-19 cases low. It's just obvious. You might just go and troll somewhere else. Restrictions are being eased for such a short time to see what's going on. Common sense says to use anything to control the spread. You are probably using your undies since the start of this ****, so keep at it :D

At this stage I won't be wearing a mask.

Where do you find clowns like this one, guys why do you bother to post comments when you have nothing to say?

Seems they really really want people to wear masks where social distancing is difficult (public transport, shops, etc). But they just can't out their finger on what they need to do to have people wearing them in those environments.

Surely there is some legal way of enforcing the use of masks on public transport and shops. No mask and no boarding/entry. People will soon start wearing them. You'd want to be some knob head to pretend you've one of the conditions that prevent the wearing of them when you don't have it.

And who gives a ****e if they're not 100% protective or give a bit of a sense of false security. I'd rather have someone with Covid occasionally fiddle with their mask and breathe into it while I'm wearing one than them not wearing one at all.

    Leadership comes from the top.

Sometimes that leadership needs a push, that push usually comes from the media.

When the 2 most senior politicians in Slovakia appeared on their version of Prime Time and told the public they all must wear masks, the presenter threw 2 masks at them and said 'well if that is the case, why are you not wearing them? put these on.' Which they did.

I stopped watching the briefings here because of the standard of our media.

    - What's the difference between homeware and hardware (all ready asked 18 times)

    - How come I can get botox but not a haircut?

    - How many can attend my wedding?

Yes there is. We just have to wait for boys in power to make it.

It's been so frustrating lately to follow this topic guys, well from the start. So many people refuse to use logic. Have to say I have great respect for a good few of you, who keep repeating over and over again idea of using face mask. It's just common sense for the rest of you, who refuse to use it. It's just like building the wall to protect yourself from burglaries, the more walls the better. No walls...we'll be my guest and take whatever you want. Masks makes sense when majority wears them. It's simple. If 1 out of 10 have a mask, makes no difference. But if 9 out 10 have a mask makes huge difference, even if they 50% effective. Doesn't hurt me to wear mask, why some people have such a f.. problem to wear one?

They are hoping that the transport companies (and supermarkets and big stores) will do what Stena Line are doing so that the Guards don't have to police it.

4 days since the lockdown was lifted (Phase one was a sham).

You cannot declare victory after 4 days. Said it before here but maybe it needs to be hammered home again and again. Follow this logic then forget all the measures - hand washing social distancing etc.,
People need to understand that they had a virus that was out of control. Despite hand washing, social distancing stopping mass gatherings, closing pubs and restaurants they still could not hold the thing back.
The solution - Lock half the country away in their homes until they could figure out what to do.
Of course the prevalence of the virus died away during that period. It cannot penetrate concrete walls!
So what's the plan they came up with ?
Better testing and tracing - that's it.
Worst still they are going to drop the 2 metre limit to one because it is not practical to keep it.
The only hope we have is that the virus will dissappear like SARS or MERS.
But this one is an awful lot more contageous than those ones.

Nailed it mate! And we all know how the testing and tracing was done, god only knows how it works at the moment. And yeah scrap the 2 metre rule, IBEC pushing. Kind of comedy to follow the news.

And yet other countries accelerated their opening from lockdown without disaster. Denmark has had pubs, hairdressers etc open for weeks. Austria same. Etc. Get out from under the bed.

3 pack of Adidas for 13 euros

Used with the disposable filters you can buy in chemists, this seems to be a good option

You're using Austria to argue your point, which is to discourage mask wearing while reopening the country, when Austria have specifically advised that they've done well since easing restrictions due to the amount of people adhering to wearing masks

    https://www.sciencetimes.com/articles/25410/20200421/austria-90-drop-coronavirus-cases-requiring-people-wear-face-masks.htm

You're a moron, you probably smugly think you're smart out but the reality is if you can't wrap your head around this very simple to understand topic, especially with all of the explanations about why they're useful for this specific virus, then you are simply stupid

We're in such a good position to keep the virus suppressed from here onwards if the spread in the community is kept low, and masks + social distancing achieves this as evidenced by many other countries now. We will have more people visiting the country and people going on holidays and returning afterwards who will open us up to the risk of importing and spreading the virus further again, but if masks are mandatory in the appropriate areas these people will not spread it as much

I have been doing a survey for the past week on masks, making a note of the amount of people wearing masks against does not wearing. This was carried out in both a town and a city in the south east. The total number I have surveyed stands at 1,252 and the number who were wearing masks was 64 which is about 5%. Good for you if you wear one, that is your choice, I don't wear one and have no intention of wearing one, but then I don't use public transport or go into any big busy stores. but do agree that they should be worn where the 2m public distancing is not possible

Same here, in the absence of any directive, I will definitely wear one on public transport and also at work if I cannot keep the 2m distance. I have ordered a cloth face covering for use on the rare occasion when I take public transport and my employer is supposed to be supplying face masks where necessary when I return to work. Other than that I have managed to keep a safe distance.

In addition it is quite bizzarre that he should conclude that I am opposed to the lifting of restrictions given that I referred to Phase 1 as a sham and I made it clear that I agree that the 2m social distancing measure is in many case unworkable.
It is really strange how these characters crawl out of their little fantasy worlds on websites like this and believe in some way that imposing their views on others will in some way affect the eventual progress of a completely unpredictable virus.
The single biggest threat that faces us right now is not the virus. It is selfish idiots that don't realise that there are other people in this world apart from them and that making relatively painless adjustments to our behaviour might serve to benefit society as a whole.

I reject these stupid gas masks. If I don't want to wear one I won't. And to try to force me to (in any setting) is pure fascism. And yet Leo has the audacity to describe the Irish hero Seán Russell as a fascist, despite being the leader of the unelected Blueshirts.

The former Chief of Staff of Óglaigh na hÉireann, on the other hand, is a national treasure who served in defence of the Irish Republic.

I don't have a clue about what you are talking about and I suspect I am not alone.
If this has anything to do with Covid 19 please clarify.

If you gave some people the choice between a face mask and lockdown, I think they'd rather end up in ICU. The whole pandemic thing has been a real education - if a lot of people won't step up in a national emergency, they are beyond help.

Well they're akin to wearing gas masks. And I won't wear one. Nor has anyone the right to force me.

Hahahaha, the ones trying to impose masks accusing those who won’t wear them of imposing their views. Irony overload. Wear a mask all you want. The majority don’t and won’t. But no one is stopping anyone that wants to wear one.
