Have to say I laughed at the line "Wi-Fi in public areas should be blocked to discourage non-essential use of the centre,".

Really people go to a shopping centre for WIFI?

    Thanks for your considered response.

I think that groups like ER will see an 'opening' for their own agenda based on the recent measures. I don't see them as trustworthy since they are a classic 'the ends justify the means'-type movement.

I'm not opposed to environmental actions to reduce pollution but I'd be looking at the nature of the actions before throwing support behind them. Nightmare scenario for me would be very extreme actions, which cause a lot of suffering, taken in great haste.

    Yes.
This is a threat but not an imminent threat like the pandemic, to be clear.
If one thing comes from this as Chris 25 and others have said, WFH 2 or 3 days a week and more people walking and cycling as a result may be an unexpected but welcome side effect .
    I wish I could WFH , lol

Or if a particular pub or restaurant is found to have a cluster of cases in common they may be closed by public health until they can deep clean and show they are meeting regulations .

    What is a deep clean.

    is "cleaning" not enough?

Shopping centres should put in place measures to limit the number of shoppers before they reopen next week, according to new guidelines published by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).
I can only describe this destruction of the economy as disturbing at this stage!

Its one thing to say that its mainly old people that suffer at the hands of the virus. That's just a fact.
Its quite another to say that they are expendable or beyond use etc, which I don't believe is the opinion of any of the regular posters on this thread.

Well glad to hear that , but there have been posts that have said exactly that .
It triggered a lot of people who normally would be more impartial, and maybe that was the intention.

It’s getting a bit embarrassing now. People saying the numbers have doubled today when it’s our 3rd lowest day since March. People saying the R is increasing, which is true because the case numbers are so low.

The numbers will likely never drop to 0 without a vaccine.

It might be in public interest to stop the daily figures. People expect it to go from 9 to 5 to 3 and then Covid is gone forever.

    37 cases in 3 days.

    Peanut numbers yet again.

Only thing they are achieving now announcing these minuscule numbers is encouraging public NOT to wear any masks. Why would someone wear a mask when theres like 400 infected people in a population of 4,900,000?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,265 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

If they put a sign on the front door - eat here at your own risk, surely that covers that?

A bit like what a lot of places do with "Management will not accept any responsibility for lost or stolen personal items left unattended"

Govt regulation also says every table has to be sanitised every 30 minutes, govt regulation says a lot of nonsense basically.

Dear god almighty. They tables are to be regularly cleaned? How disgraceful. I thought a once a month clean would do! Think of the economy!

It’s causing people a huge amount of stress. They’re checking it every day around 6 and freaking if the numbers go from 10 to 20. That’s not good for public health.

I don’t think it would do any harm to hear some other news.

Tony is only going to do 2 days a week now as well.

Learning to live with the disease will also include not talking about it every day.

There's still people who have it and are asymptomatic or there's people who get so mildly I'll they might not even be panicked that it could be COVID. Who's to say these people aren't standing in front of you in the queue to get into Penney's? Chance is very slim admittedly but this is an extremely contagious disease and of people want to minimize the risk further then I guess they're adults and it's their choice either way.

No signs of a 2nd wave in Denmark.

Denmark says easing lockdown has not caused increase in Covid-19 infections

    6/10/2020

Denmark, the first country in Europe to relax its coronavirus lockdown said on Wednesday that the spread of Covid-19 has not accelerated since it eased restrictions and began the second phase of reopening society last month.

"The level of contagion in society is still very low," the Danish health authority said in a report in Wednesday, according to Reuters news agency.

It added that the number of confirmed new infections had continued to fall despite more tests being carried out.

In April Denmark became the first country to reopen its schools and daycare centres and the following month bars and restaurants and shopping centres were allowed to resume business.

"There is no sign yet of noticeable changes in the extent of contagion despite the gradual reopening of society in April and early May," the report said.

    We will never wear masks.

    No, we will not

SHOPPING in two of Ireland's most famous department stores would normally be a pleasure but today, I have to admit, I was extremely anxious taking this leap during a pandemic.

I wore gloves after parking in the city centre, realising I would be touching the ticket machine and doors. Additionally, I donned a mask walking into Brown Thomas on Grafton Street and Arnotts on Henry Street.

But I was one of very few who had chosen to wear a mask. Many shoppers are still reluctant to follow Government advice to wear masks in retail outlets.

Well maybe one of very few will

PS girl is anxious about going to Brown Thomas? Talk about watching too much RTE

Denmark reported 15 new cases today and 39 yesterday yet live continues. New cases will continue to be reported until a vaccine is mass administered or the virus dissipate due to other factors. We need to accept this and stop fretting over something which is inevitable. At this stage, Ireland is probably killing more people due to later diagnosis or delayed treatment of all the other illnesses and diseases out there than the restrictions are saving.

Who is "we"? Many people (the sensible ones anyway) have been wearing them for months.

Are you Gerry Kileen by any chance Cork Boy?

Can picture you crying into your mask as the virus fades away.

Your performance on the television did mask wearing no favours anyhow.

    You looked ridiculous.

Most Irish people don't want to look as ridiculous as that and that is the image of mask wearing you gave them.

Nope I`m not Gerry Killeen. I won`t even bother responding to the rest of your rambling drivel.

Saw this in the main thread. I’ll have to investigate the source but mental if true

“During April 2020, there were 2,689 deaths registered in Ireland. During April 2019, there were 2,599 deaths registered. During April 2018, there were 2,940 deaths registered.”

Been saying for months that overall mortality numbers would not rise significantly in comparison to other years' numbers.

Adjust for population growth and compare from 1950 onwards and the worst years for deaths will be outside of this decade.

What we have against those numbers are projections of 10,000, 20,000, 85,000, 120,000 dead.

When restrictions are gone it will no longer have a purpose. Not too long left.

I think a lot of the deaths probably died with Covid as opposed to of Covid.

Still nearly 6 weeks to go even under the revised roadmap. And even then mass gatherings of large numbers for sports events concerts etc will still not be allowed. I would say there is a great deal of mileage left in this thread yet.

Sorry if you’re that “anxious” why not stay at home? I’m sure there’s a few less dramatic journalists out there that could have made the trip

    Wow.

    .........

So we basically destroyed 10% of our GDP and our deaths are the same as prior 2 years?!

Now they want us to wear masks? Treated like absolute fools.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the numbers are similar to other years because of the restrictions!

You strike me as the sort that would complain even if the numbers were higher than previous years proclaiming that the lockdown was pointless and didn't stop deaths from occurring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,414 ✭✭✭Pete_Cavan

There is also the possibility of a drop in deaths over the next 12 months or so due to some who were going to die in that period dying earlier due to Covid-19. Although that may be compensated by people dying of otherwise treatable conditions which were ignored for several months due to lockdown.

This article is from GRIPT , no references except mentions HSE and WHO guidelines and is only on Twitter.

I think I will wait to see what official sources produce .

I think everyone agrees that the restrictions were necessary initially to prevent deaths. At this stage though the restrictions we still have are doing little or nothing. The experience of other countries who started lifting restrictions several weeks ago supports this.
