It will never catch on in here though. Thankfully, I dont like the idea of wearing ludicrous face coverings. If you are at risk feel free but to make healthy people wear masks after you made them sit at home for 3 months and netflix is pushing goodwill a bit too much.

I see your point. But there needs to be some pragmatism. You want everything back to normal. Others have been frightened by the propaganda campaign. We will never get things back to normal of transport is at 20% capacity. If the price is people wearing masks on public transport in peak periods then sobeit.

9 cases of a mild illness today. We should be fully open with no restrictions at all.

If so why is your avatar wearing a mask?

I’m pretty sure boards forced me to pick an avatar years ago and I chose a character called sub zero from a computer game called mortal kombat...

Jaysus, even commenting on a poster's avatar. There are some people whose only purpose on boards is to have a sparring match just for the sake of it. Pathetic

Just can't take that man seriously. Every time I see him I can't help think empty vessels make the most noise. I think he would produce scientific evidence for anything as long as it got him on TV.

Its just comedy at this stage :D

You listen to some people especially in this thread youd think covid is more deadly than ebola.

Well the current CoViD-19 pandemic has killed far more people than all recorded Ebola outbreaks since its discovery in 1976.

Good to hear. I do have to say i experienced a lot of anxiety after Leo s speech 1 May. I somehow got through it by joining boards and venting my anger. To my surprise about 80% of posters were in agreement. And by that i mean i wasnt surprised at all. So if you are ever feeling down from these nonsense restrictions then posting here might just help you.

And whatever you do - do not watch RTE more than 2 times per week.

Will you stick with Boards Ginger? You must have strong feelings on other subjects?

Went into several shops in town today, all of which required hands to be sanitised upon entrance.

No issue with that but the quality of the sanitiser was appalling, almost all left a horrible sticky, filmy residue and one even had little bits of some sort of exfoliant in it that stuck to the skin afterwards.

All smelled strongly of alcohol and were very drying. I wonder would it be possible to use our own personal sanitiser (mine is a good quality one) instead of the shops one before entering?
    Has anyone tried that?
No issue with them using cheap stuff as reopening is expensive enough, I’d just rather use my own one than walk around with sticky hands all day.

It’s not the end of the world if not but I found myself wanting to wash my hands a few times today because they were so sticky but obviously there are no public bathrooms so I couldn’t.

I think Ginger et al need to be thanked for opening up the debate on the restrictions in Ireland. Despite the doom mongers thousands of people have not died due to the opening of woodies and further relaxation.

Very true, remember there was going to be a huge bottle bank surge of infections and I wonder if the builders eating hot chicken rolls survived..

Yeah. I`m sure nobody will stop you from using your own sanitiser. The most important thing is to use it regularly where appropriate.

It is a valid question, under the circumstances.

Yeah some people just can’t help themselves and go to great lenghts to pick and disect anything in desperation just to win an argument. Pathetic.

Absolutely not , but considering the terrible numbers of deaths in England, it just shows that if you are going to suppress the virus there should be no ambiguity about restrictions.

The premise of your post is , if I read you correctly , that it is the fault of lockdown that people will suffer and die from cancer and other illnesses, and famine.
This has been said repeatedly by the anti lockdown posters, while ignoring that most countries are facing the same issues, one way or the other , because of the pandemic and the various effects on economies and health services worldwide.

The only countries to really come out of this well are countries like NewZealand , who shut down immediately and stayed shut until they knew they had the virus well under control.

You can’t compare NZ to Ireland. It only took 7 weeks of lockdown to achieve that zero result. How long have we been in lockdown? It would take a lot longer for us to achieve that same result with a lockdown and it would be more damaging.

What do you propose? Another couple of months under lock and key? On yer bike.....

If you read my post you will see I don't compare them , they are an example simply of the right way to go about it
NZ locked down as we should have done, no flights from Italy and no Cheltenham travellers without quarantine etc.
Of course we are rightly finished with lockdown now , again read the post .

And for someone talking about people dissecting posts to start a row , you are certainly making a good stab at that here . On your bike yourself !

Oh give over about disecting a post. It’s a bit different than picking on an avatar. It was a valid argument about NZ. Europe was the epicentre of the virus and that’s another good reason NZ did so well compared to us. They got lucky because of their geographical position.

If you weren’t comparing NZ why mention it?

Yes i know the lockdown is finished but i asked what do you propose?

I said NZ are one of the few countries to come out of this pandemic relatively unscathed, unlike most other countries , lockdown or not.
The article and the premise of the post I was replying to is the issue.
Everyone is having problems after this because of the pandemic, and the fall out from it, not just from lockdown.

What do you mean what do I propose? About what?

And by the way, I wasn't picking on him over the avatar..I thought he chose it deliberately .

When you mentiioned NZ shut until the virus had disappeared. Wondering is that what you propose Ireland to do?

I think the virus has been knocked well on the head for while here, don't you?
Where I differ is that I am happy to go along with the restrictions especially now they have moved on a bit , with hand washing
with social distancing for the reopening and beyond .
I would probably wear a mask on public transport for now, but don't see myself wearing one all the time .
    How about you?

Also I think travel to similarly affected countries could be eased now , but if it starts again we need to shut it down.
All the countries that did well shut their borders.

Yeah we are doing quite well now. Just fingers crossed it stays that way. I have obeyed all the restrictions for most part. But i’m still very cautious at the same time. When i shop for my parents i wear gloves and a mask. I also wear a mask and gloves when i do some of my jobs depending on the situation.

I know gloves are controversial but i find that i’m more conscious of my hands and i don’t touch my face.

As long as you sanitise your hands when they come off they are fine , same with the mask.
I guess I hate them because we have to wear them at work so like to let the skin breathe when I'm off .

Yes hope it stays that way , maybe just more pessimistic because of all that I have seen at work, but cases are non existent now
So yes fingers crossed . Good night .

Many in the medical profession are pushing for this strategy. I am not sure what the plan for doing it is - continued lock down or wear masks/travel restrictions.

I like how they suggest we should do more to be like Austria who had 66 cases confirmed yesterday and a 7 day moving average of 33, whereas we had 9 yesterday and a 7 day moving average of 20

Its funny to think the original few versions "cared" about the "mental health" effect.

Thats faux caring show has been completely abandoned now in favour of just insulting anyone who is being responsible :pac:
