I don't get posts like this. Nobody on here wants to see people die or suffer with illness. Because that's what those numbers are, people's lives not some sort of point-scoring game to bash others with.

It is most definitely a point scoring game for the few all day long posters on both sides of the argument.A casual check of the amount of posts by a minority of contributors leaves them with little time for any other pursuits.

    Fantastic to see 9 cases

    Really positive

I know the numbers will fluctuate but great seeing single digit cases

There is no testing lag in Ireland. This has been said many times. The number of tests over the weekend in hospitals etc increased.

A red herring really. The question is when were the new cases and new deaths notified to the authorities.

The test results today are results from yesterday (midnight - midnight). Which means the tests were most likely taken on Friday/Saturday.

The numbers of reported new cases/deaths tend always to be lower than average following a weekend. Wasn`t it just 2 weeks ago that there were zero deaths notified on the Monday followed by a rise during the following days? I wouldn`t break out the champagne just yet if I were you.

Lol so when was the last Monday that had 9 cases?! Give over.

    Your clutching at straws here.

Of course someone will try and put a negative spin on 9 cases

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest but the mindset that spews it out does, at times, make me despair about the future of this country.

And if/when they're low again you'll be nowhere to be seen

Cases will and do fluctuate as they fall. It could be 20 tomorrow ( that’s what i predict) but if you look at the average weekly numbers they are dropping nicely every week.

24 deaths in the last 5 days. On May 8th there were 26 deaths. Just to put it in some context.

    Really?
Don't think I've seen you on this thread before. If you're new, rather than insinuate that our testing system is apparently flawed, you should visit https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/newsfeatures/covid19-updates/ and keep up to date on daily testing referrals and swabbing.

new case numbers for the last 3 mondays have usually been highest recored for that week. think there was ony one or two times that number in the following 7 days were higher. hopefully trend continues and we are down to bugger all by next mon.
New death reported usually lower on monday as the cornornor or whoever reports deaths seems to lag on weekends.

Brillant to see only 9 cases.

Looking far more likely that the virus for whatever reason is waning.

All across Europe it is declining despite restrictions being lifted. I think many people are immune from the virus.
Im very confident they'll be no 2nd wave.

Age is a good measure as to how the virus is moving. Age is getting lower, meaning many of the new cases are either workplaces or private households.

I feel you are for some reason ignoring the very widely known and obvious reasons. I am confident there will be no second wave also, but not because the virus is waning 'for some reason', as if it just decided to head on a holiday and stay in Brazil, but because of the reaosn that the virus was completely stamped out due to massive community effort, and then kept out by countless other measures to prevent any further community spread.

I am honestly shocked that there are people who think the virus naturally disappeared and not for the example the measures in place in shops today which have been described by posters, any used clothing being steamed and isolated for 24 hours, perspex glasses between customers, one way system in shops, jesus christ! The shockingly large number of of ways that society has been completely remodelled in order to prevent spread of the virus is the 'reason'

    :confused::confused::confused:

Or on the other hand, virtually no one on the planet is. It's a new virus.

There has been a lot of scientific concensus that there's a certain amount of the population who are immune. For example, smokers have had a lot lower infection rate than would be expected.
