I dont know whether that is intended to mean that im talking out of my ass or whether its intended to mimic the front of a current 7 series.
The fact that such confusion could even arise says alot really.

Here she is lads, a handsome machine indeed :)

Edit: Have to admit, it's far better looking than the piggy 1 series design.

Everyone is loosing their **** about the new grill and while I don’t like it I think it’s the least of the issues with this design. BMW coupes always had an elegant look but this has so many bad design problems. Look at the silver upright scoops in the front bumper and the raised up profile of the rear three quarters. The oversized funny shaped exhausts are poxy too. I’ve had a look online and the alloy wheel designs are awful too, just like the new 3 series wheels. I love BMW’s and had a previous model 4 series but won’t be wanting one of these in a couple of years when they fall into my price range.

    Complete Car.ie has Irish pricing.
Starts at 54k for 420i msport and just over 56 for 420d m sport. M440i just under 80k. Add options to these prices obviously.

    Please form an orderly queue.

    Edit
That 440i in Waterford looks more attractive every day.

    That interior though....

Looking at the interior, the simple dash works and i guess the screen kinda works better than the model S but looking around the rest of it, the steering wouldnt look out of place on a golf buggy and the door cards look very much like something out of japan in the 90s.

I really like the new 4 series, looks like a fresh upgrade rather than a stale evolution that some brands favour. Any word of a 430e/440e in the lineup?

    That interior though....

Exterior is as bad IMO...... Mazda ish from the 90s

I sat into my neighbour's 3P and was actually quite impressed with most of the interior. Plenty of space, lots of light and very comfortable. The touchscreen is really impressive in person imo and really shows the different philosophy that Tesla take, made my Mk7 Golf feel antiquated in comparison.

What's less favourable though, is as you said, that steering wheel. Looked cheap and out of place in what is a well designed and minimalist cabin.

I like the interior, it is so clean and different from every other car. Makes you wonder why we have so much clutter in the first place. The wheel is the same I think.

The fact it makes no sound and still feels like one of the quickest cars you've been in shows how fast it really is. If it had a screaming exhaust it would feel quicker again. IV owned cars that were relatively slow but made the right noises so felt faster, so a silent car that feels v fast, must be serious.

Just watched the whole thing. I like it. Not that they're the same segment, but i'd have the new 4 over a Model 3 all day long. The Model 3 interior looks like the inside of a Fisher Price car.

If anything, the 4 makes the 8 look like horrendous value.

New 4 Series is available to build on the UK configurator. Should be on the Irish one in a few days (or weeks, or months - who knows?)

Apart from the grilles it is a good looking car. Interior looks to be the same as the 3 Series which is a great interior, although I miss the rocker switch for changing between eco/comfort/sport - individual "buttons" don't fall to hand as easily.

Has it android auto? I’ve had to use an iPhone the last few days and there painfully slow at everything , I don’t know why BMW doesn’t have it standard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,445 ✭✭✭Wailin

Yes, first beemer to get android auto. About feckin time too.

I'd say the new 4 Series in the right colour with a black grill would be alot better than one with the standard grill. The rest of the car I have no problem with.

    Saw this on facebook.

    What we could have had:

    What we got:

I think it will be a very striking car in the metal and once there's a few around and people get used to them. Remember the uproar with the E60 when that was launched? It's still one of the better looking models to this day.

An msport e60 still looks great. SE doesn't.
    Similar to e39 I suppose

There's a hint of Maserati about the front......

Same with F10, and most of the non m sport in fact. SE f10 is dreadful.

Not sure about it. The nose of the current 4 series is one of its most attractive angles - it's still one of the prettier BMW's imo, but I'm really not sure about that huge nose... at all. But the angular/square exhausts with the pea-shooters inside them annoys me more tbh.

There's a strong hint of Alfa Guilia off it actually... the headlights and tail lights resemble those on the Alfa. Alfa made a far better job of the grill though.

I'd rather the top one for sure, but I definitely don't hate the bottom one, the more I see it the more it's growing on me to be honest. Looking forward to seeing one in the metal.

Anyway, I wouldn't buy one regardless due to 2 doors, but would be interested to see what the grand coupe looks like

Someone will produce a decent front end for these and sell alot of them.

440i test drive. Nice note from the engine.

On a different topic, warranty is up in my 520d and got a quote to extend from BMW,
Way more expensive than expected. I think they have done some stealth price increases. Over a grand for the comprehensive Warranty with no excess and over 800 with 335 excess. Had expected a bill around 500 which I was going to take but a grand seem too much?
After having changed the other car I’ll keep this a while longer but don’t fancy paying out if something goes wrong. BMW warranty has been worth its weight in gold to me in the past but torn now.

That is quiet excessive to be honest. The downside is (correct me if I'm wrong) if you don't continue the extended warranty then that's it, you can't decide to get one down the line when the car is older and more prone to issues. I think they are a reliable car when looked after and you'll probably end up trading it in a year or two? In that case I wouldn't bother, if it was me, with the extended warranty. Is the annual mileage high?
