Ring your job in the morning and tell them you got turned around at a checkpoint. They won't be long in printing off a few letters.
    what?
    you mean tell a lie?
next thing you'll be suggesting I mock up a letter and use that

The alternative would be to keep doing it until it happens. Then they'll get you a letter, I'm sure. I don't have a letter but I've been stopped a couple of times with no issue.

I'd go with this option, if you get turned around they can't say they hadn't been warned. Otherwise carry something, anything, a payslip, whatever.

Luck of the draw as was said, these checkpoints seem to be 'soft touch' policing unless you're obviously pissed, look dodgy or have something to hide.

You would think that's obvious but management live on a different planet. They have determined it is not required under the new protocol

Anyway, my question remains - what is the Garda position on this?

I do voluntary work for a charitable organisation and they provided us with a letter to show if stopped at a Garda checkpoint. I had to show it twice so far and had no problems with the Garda.
Your company is the problem if they’re not providing you with a letter.

OK, let me re-phrase the question -
Are letters of authorisation from employers still required for essential workers to travel to work?

But what is their issue with providing one? Are they afraid of the cost of paper and ink toner?

    From Citizens Information

“If you are an essential worker, you are allowed to travel to and from work. When travelling to and from work, you should bring:

    Work identification or
A letter from your employer that states you are an essential employee and
    Another form of identification”

So no. Not really necessary but you should. Your company is being awkward for the cost of some paper and ink.

thanks, that's the most useful information I got so far, should have thought to look at citizens information.
BTW One thing my shower are not afraid to spend on is paper and ink.....

I was stopped at a Garda checkpoint on the border this afternoon. The Guard was in great form.

They’ll need some amount of them around the Donegal border in about 6 weeks time.

I thought all parades for the 12th were cancelled ages ago, I suppose there'll be street parties instead...

You’ve seen what they’re like when they can’t walk down a certain road, there’s no chance that they’ll be told none at all. The 11th will probably be the hardest one one to stop.

They're officially cancelled anyway, even Rossnowlagh.

Overheard a pair of Dublin "ladies" shouting at each other through separate open car windows in the local petrol station in Sth Wexford. Both were bragging how they had made "triffic" time coming from the capital.

"2 and a half hours from Kingswood" to be precise...."never stopped once."

Clear as day that both cars were families on holidays judging by the packed cars!

Local beach here was jam packed yesterday. 99% of people on it were not from within 5km.

there is no leadership or clear direction from either government or garda management .

government or any politicians don't want the backlash from some people for ordering a strict lockdown yet they cant lift them for the same reason.

only the dpp can authorise actual charges for breaching the covid regulations and they only authorised it in one quarter of the cases referred to them .

The Gardai have slipped back terribly in the past few weeks but they must be getting instructed to do so.

the problem is that they aren't getting any clear instruction at all .

Sure what’s the issue, isn’t it great? People out enjoying themselves again in the sun. Cafes Open for takeout, people flocking to the beaches. Been locked up for long enough.

Any begrudgers are busy bodies that love to be heard.

Check the stats today, second wave or not. 83 was median age. 10 people died under 45.

TEN.... PEOPLE... and of those we don’t even know what their health condition was.

About one twelfth of the 24,500 approx cases were under 30. How many health workers? A large majority I’d imagine.

Life goes on and has to. Anyone denying the return to normality isn’t half wise. Including our government. Keeping things inside their control until they get their new corrupt government sorted. Meanwhile flights from the UK and further afield land in day by day. “But it’s for cargo “ they say... :D

    Why pick age 45?
Let's pick age 10 so while we're at it.

More publicity pics out of Gardai patrolling deserted trains with doggy in tow. Wonder will they be still around when the scumbags are back on board?

    Lol.
