If you're following them and they aren't wearing trousers then perhaps, although you probably have other issues if that's the situation you are faced with.

    Dublin North makes headlines

"Highest Covid-19 incidence recorded on north side of Dublin
North west of capital has highest concentration of coronavirus cases in the county

There are significantly more cases of coronavirus on the north side of Dublin than other parts of the capital, according to new figures from the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Dublin north west has the highest concentration of Covid-19, with 2,183 cases and 115 deaths. The area includes Glasnevin, Phibsboro, Cabra, Finglas, and Blanchardstown."

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/highest-covid-19-incidence-recorded-on-north-side-of-dublin-1.4261097

Good luck to any Gardai going into Cabra or Finglas trying to enforce social distancing.

Sure finglas was full of house parties during the lockdown.

Some good articles there but it'd probably make it easier for people if you gave a few words to summarize what's in them, otherwise they'll be skipped over by most. Not having a dig by the way, some good reads there

Not one of those articles refers to Ireland.
And that someone kills themself during the crisis isn't evidence it was caused either directly or indirectly by it.
    No causality proven.

    Suicide is an emotive topic.
Because we hear so much about it, the narrative is that it's increasing.
Suicide numbers have been falling for years.

Same in Blanchardstown, and zero social distancing in shops and parks since Easter

    Numbers don't lie

    RIP to those who died.

It is cringe when they report that people dont pay their TV licence and ask for more funds from govt given that lad Tubridy collects 500,000 per year.

But going by this, should we not just scrap that inefficient, low quality service they are producing and instead put money into creating jobs at wind farms or building new schools? I would be in favor of that. Virgin media news can do the job equally well, afterall why do we have RTE reporting on news at 6 pm and Virgin news come on at 8 PM every day? Are they reporting different stories?

If you do not like RTE then simply do not watch it, and use other sources.

I understand that you have a bee in your bonnet. Perhaps watch the RTE news from time to time though? They do not normally begin stories with 'It is cringe when ...'. Serious suggestion, no joke. You do not write very well.

Both indicators seem to be stuck at a plateau - low teens for deaths & 60-70 cases on a daily basis. Maybe this is the “new normal” that we need to live with for the foreseeable future?

Varadkar is Taking gamble that the voters will suffer amnesia and forget the years of appalling governance and awful election result, by playing it over conservative and the only metric that matters is cv19 deaths. Wait till the budget cuts kick in etc , they are taking the piss now, it will start dawning on many others, pretty soon

Fergal Bowers just tweeted them. Disappointing that the number of deaths remains stubbornly consistent, genuinely thought they would be going down by now.

Italy reports 669 new cases of coronavirus and 119 new deaths.

Total of 229,327 cases and 32,735 deaths.

Italy holding steady last week to 10 days now

It depends really when the deaths occurred versus when they were notified. If low case numbers persist then the deaths should go down in the next few weeks

Meat plants and the confirmed cases close contacts I'd say and judging by what others have said an awful lot of staff in meat plants live in shared accommodation so no surprise that there was a little spike out of them

I reckoned it was the contacts alright. We may start seeing these spikes every now and then because of those.

It’s consistent at a low level. It was consistent at 30/40 a day a month ago
    Let’s stay positive

I do watch something else. That something else does not send me a 160 euro a year TV licence bill.

And now they are begging govt for funding. Because they provide very poor service that a lot of people dont want to pay for. And it is evident now more than ever.

So its noble you are trying to defend RTE but you need to face reality - they are shi*e. And they ll only get better when they review their operational model, news content and presentation and make cuts to useless services and useless employees carrying coffees around for 30 - 40 k a year. Not by begging govt for more money.

PS before you come back with your poetic nonsense about bees etc do try to address 500,000 a year salary for a presenter that is unknown abroad and has very little talent. Do you think thats alright? Good use of taxpayers funds?

For 500k a year we can place 4 families into 4 houses every year outside of Dublin & Cork. Every. Year.

It's a base that we need to drive down.

We don't want to be exiting the summer at this level.

If we take Austria or Denmark as our measure than 10 - 20 cases per day would be good.

But I believe we can go even lower than that to zero. Which would be a great achievement.

It's only May. Summer hasn't really even started.

May the 13 people who died rest in peace.

And it's good that number of cases are down again

I am not sure where you are getting that from? I never watch RTE.

How am I defending them? I simply said that you yourself could learn a bit from watching the news on there maybe, in terms of how to write a proper message on an internet forum.

With less than 2000 cases in the country now you'd have to be hoping the deaths go in to single figures next week, it's all looking very promising!!

Have you found any evidence to back up your claim that Covid 19 is seasonal?

The CDC is adamant that COVID-19 now exhibits the migration of seasonal flu from the northern to southern hemispheres

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishtimes.com/news/world/us/us-health-agency-director-warns-of-coronavirus-flare-up-this-autumn-1.4259160%3fmode=amp
The rapid spread of coronavirus in the southern hemisphere suggests it is likely to flare up again in the US this autumn and winter, raising the possibility of a second round of lockdowns this year, the head of the nation’s public health body has told the Financial Times.

Dr Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), warned the US would have to increase its disease-tracking capabilities rapidly in the next few months to avoid another public health crisis as seasonal flu coincides with a second wave of Covid-19.

“We’ve seen evidence that the concerns it would go south in the southern hemisphere like flu [are coming true], and you’re seeing what’s happening in Brazil now,” Redfield said. “And then when the southern hemisphere is over I suspect it will reground itself in the north"

There is fast increasing evidence of the impact of seasonal changes. There appears to be one difference with the flu - flu all but dies out out of season. This appears to remain albeit at a lower base.

Low numbers of new cases do not mean low death. That would depend on who still have it, who is in hospital and age/underlying conditions

I believe China had no new cases today.
