Of it's happening three weeks we wouldn't have results yet.
Incubation period is 5-14 days, so yes we would have seen it.

And as transmission in the general population has been more or less zero for four weeks - yes we would have seen it.

The constant berating of people out shopping on here is laughable. There’s a problem with everything. We have seen no evidence of any sort of spread in shops.

Wait until the pubs open. They won't be open a week before they have to close again because of stuff like this.

But yes agreed, brainless sheep is a good description.

Just at drove up my town and observed road works being carried and four guys not doing anything while a mini-digger did it's thing. Two of them were standing about two feet apart chatting away with no gloves or facemasks or anything. There was at most about two and a half metres between the ones on either side of the four.
This is what we are facing now. We'll see community spread jump quickly by the looks of things. My wife stopped shopping and came home last night due to too many people not adhering to the social distancing guidelines. I've observed people less than a metre apart on numerous occasions over the last couple of days. Basically every time I leave my house it's there to be seen.
    We're heading for another lockdown.
Saw the same thing yesterday, passed a crew of LA workers setting up to work on underground piping. All properly masked and distanced and area roped off to maintain distancing.

Returning 20 minutes later, manhole cover removed, one guy head down inside manipulating something, three others looking over shoulders, touching and bracing each other for balance!

But that's the way they are accustomed to working as it allows for fast communication and analysis, can't see how that can be overcome without extensive duplication of inspection and communication equipment.

Without that investment, it'll be down to the level of very fast testing, tracking and tracing that we appear to be incapable of achieving.

It seems to be the case that the Gardai are being called because of traffic obstruction issues (the queues are cars, not pedestrians), not because of violations of the public health regulations. There's also no indication that they've actually had to do anything. Just because Gardai are called or turn up, it doesn't necessiarly mean there's an actionable issue.

If the same crews are working alongside each other every day, I'm not sure it's that much of an issue. Social distancing rules are primarily meant to keep you from coming into close contact with dozens of complete strangers on a day to day basis.

    Question>

I can't drive and the only shop within walking distance is destroying me finances-wise, it can work out 5 times the cost of a big shop in Lidl

Would taking a train to Lidl/Dunnes and back home again be dodgy behaviour? I'm not sure about it.

    Irish Times:
The reopening of six McDonald’s drive-thrus in Dublin hardly represents an epoch moment in world history, but for those queuing for the return of the Big Mac it meant a glimpse of normality after months of lockdown.

Staff wore face masks and there were perspex screens at the drive thru windows - though a drive thru was a form of social distancing before the concept was created.

Some might sniff that McDonald’s is a symbol of our calorific and consumerist lifestyle, but who cares when you have been cooped up at home for weeks on end?

Cars that turned up early to the McDonald’s in Kylemore Road, Dublin were turned away as the car park was not open. A few parked on the verges outside. As soon as the bollards went down, the cars streamed in.

Within a few minutes they were backed up on the Kylemore Road right up and around the corner to the very busy Naas Road which is one of the main approach roads into Dublin. At one stage gardaí arrived to sort out the congestion.

McDonald’s intends to open the rest of its drive thrus in Ireland in early June.

So, can you align this with your statement that "Gardai called to several McDonald's as massive queues form. People are such brainless unimaginative sheep"?

Which was clearly suggesting there was some public health issue as a result, not just traffic management.

Dodgy in what way? There's nothing in the regulations stopping you from doing so, so it's not legally dodgy. But you're certainly increasing your risk of exposure and/or transmission by being on public transport, so you'd be wise to take the necessary precautions to reduce that risk as much as you can. So you could regard it as dodgy in that way.

If you're asking if it's dodgy in the eyes of the Court Of Board's Opinion, I guess you'll find out soon enough! Some people think sticking your head out your front door is dodgy, some think it's all a waste of time. I think most people, though, sit in the reasonable middle.

Well I know they have people at some stations asking where people are going and if their journeys are necessary, not sure what they'd think of my case.

Can't imagine the train being too busy, even pre-pandemic it (my journey anyway) was sparsely used most days

You have to go the shops! You may never come across anyone at the stations or you may.

Well if they thought "Oh it's not open" or "Oh it's too crowded"..."let's do something else".

It's the first ****ing day, just not go on the first day or have a back up plan. Yes I still think they are idiots. People still form epic queues, too stubborn to give up. You would swear there was no food to be had elsewhere.

Of course... but re-opening the economy must be done slowly and safely, otherwise disaster beckons. A pile of dead people do not help any economy, they don't spend, they don't consume and they don't work !

    Simple really !

A glimpse of the fwits, panty sniffers and assorted fruitcakes who attended the Anti-lockdown protests around the world recently.

We have muppets like that here. Was at the bus stop last week coming home from work, when a woman walked past me looking at me funnily. I missed a bus, so had 20 minutes to wait and took the opportunity to ring my mother (who I haven't seen since end of Feb due to this). A few minutes later the woman walked right into me on purpose and proceeded to stick up a professional looking covid 19 is a hoax poster on to a nearby pole. I reckon she saw from my badge I work in a hospital and decided I was part of the plot to usher in the New World Order so it was alright to bash into me. I was raging.

I'll take your word for that, I don't see anything on the Irish Rail site about checks. Food shopping is a necessary activity. No one is going to stop you from a reasonable journey to buy food. Obviously travelling from Limerick to Dublin to go to M&S would be hard to justify as reasonable or essential, but getting to your nearest supermarket would be. Not everyone lives within reasonable walking distance of a supermarket.

People crave normality, I'm no fan of the stuff but it gives people a taste of what life was like a few short months ago. Also despite some comments here, it's not unique to Ireland.

What do you mean if? The supermarkets have been crazy since day 1, anyone who has been on one will agree

Supervalu in Killester is my local. Outside all fine with queuing and distancing. All goes out the window once inside, not much SV can do in fairness to them. This is from day 1.
The first few weeks i only went late at night or early morning to avoid the madness, but as time went on I stopped giving a ****e and went at whatever time suited me.
Same cashiers there any day i went, handling customer phones, receipts, good etc and I dont think any of them caught it.

My daughter in law to be has had a life changing organ transplant cancelled due to this. She's in her mid 20's. No timescale given as to when the operation will happen.

It was most likely not cancelled due to the lockdown but due to the inherent risks of contracting Sars-CoV-2 while on immunosupressants following a transplant. The lockdown will enable your daughter in law to get her organ transplant by reducing the incidence of covid 19 in the community.

While I agree on the practical aspect, don't think think that that is objective of the regulations being rolled out, mandating 2m distancing and maximum enclosed space contact times.

As I have posted previously there is a lack of practicality in the regulations, driven by the mindset of the various Ministries involved, and their penchant for diktat rather than promoting realistic ground up solutions.

I don't wear a mask going out, but if I was getting on public transport I definitely would.

So if I was you, I'd have a mask on. Wear a pair of gloves on the transport bin them when you get off, hand sanitise your hands.. Fresh pair of gloves for shopping, bin when finished hand sanitise your hands. Final pair of gloves for transport, bin and sanitise hands.

I'd probably carry stuff home in a backpack that can be fecked in the washing machine after....or else keep the bag away from everything and only use it for public transport.

Personally I don't think supermarkets are a big risk, public transport I'm not overly confident on.... I would also change my clothes (but then I shower and change after a supermarket trip in the car... So :))
