The new app is a lot less buggy than the previous versions, at least.

Stream goes blank for me every 10 - 20 seconds. Refresh, rinse and repeat.

My wife just came back from the shops saying social distancing looks like a thing of the past to most people. She wasn't very comfortable and abandoned shopping.
Fair play to your wife for being strong and confident enough to turn on her heels and abandon the plans. Not many would do that. She's right too. The virus is still out there. We need to continue with the social distancing by not joining crowds and keeping space apart. That's anyone who doesn't want to get sick.

16 deaths recorded today and 51 new cases.

Crietia for tests was changed 2 weeks ago and no increase in cases despite capacity to do 15,000 tests per day
They need to start community testing. Test villages, test hotspots, test everywhere.

Had to grab a few bits today in the local hardware store and visit the opticians - must say I noticed high compliance with regard to social distancing in both places.

Not a huge amount of face coverings in use I would estimate somewhere in the region of 40% of people.

Have the Mater reported their numbers?

What is wrong with having the view that the virus is in general is not particularly dangerous to young people and also wanting to take the vaccine when available.
    Its not really a dichotomy.

It is if you've been going on here that ' there is no danger lads , we're ok , we're young , sure we'll only get a mild illness ' .

Local transmission has virtually stopped now, though - most of the new cases are either coming from residential settings or meat plants.

In from Aldi myself not long. 2 people in the whole shop wearing masks. Social distancing non existent. Not for the first time seeing social distancing in shops not being followed in the last 2 weeks. Said it before people who think it'll be followed in say September when everything should be reopened might need to rethink seeing as it's not being followed in the handful of places already open

Im not saying your wrong, I'm not in Ireland so I'm not sure how people are behaving.
I have seen lots of posts like this for past couple of months. If this is happening on a large scale why are numbers reducing so much?

Surely it must mean the majority are conforming to the restrictions?

If that's the case then we need to start antibody testing. Now seems like the right time.

Yes - Dublin recorded 250 cases in one day last weekend, which essentially was the backlog.

Yeah an Irish public health consultant based in Australia was saying GP referral should be dropped and allow people to just self-refer. Not sure we would have capacity but yeah not sure why we're not trying to do more to get everyone who has it now before things ease up. Could really stamp it out then.

You'd have thought of all of them they'd be one of the most organised. Do they just not want to hire extra staff to organise queue or something?

Being German I was expecting a lot more from Aldi. They're also very poor on the hand sanitizer front, sometimes only surface spray in my two local ones and when the have the hand version it very watery and sprays everywhere with nothing on the way out after the checkouts. Lidl have proper dispensers with gel going in and coming out.

    0.21% growth.

Very encouraging. Important to note that these figures are delayed too due to the infection to onset of symptoms lag. Community infection must be very very low at this stage.

    The Sunday briefing by NPHET.

Still 16 is much lower than what we were getting 30-40 at one stage etc, not to mention only 51 cases today. I suspect there will be less than 16 deaths tomorrow. It’s going.....

Yeah Sunday but it can also come out when people ask the question. 4,000 a day at present I believe. DeGascun is at the briefing tonight.

I reckon we'll see a change in case definition at the next NPHET meeting. Need to broaden it even more now, let people self-refer and try to fill the capacity we have.

Aldi has been lax now for weeks . No queue organised outside but jam packed inside

I decided to steer clear of Aldi and Lidl from the beginning. Their layouts and attitude just don't lend themselves to social distancing or even common courtesy in my experience.

I haven't seen a queue outside my local Tesco at all, although I've only been late in the evening. Inside has been mostly OK, but the thursday night before the May weekend was a free-for all inside. I ended up in queue for the checkout that went up one of the isles. This woman came over and butted in front of me within a meter to studiously inspect the Yankee Candles for 2 minutes. She then decided against the random purchase of an overpriced scented candle at 9.30PM. Meanwhile there was another couple just across from me blocking up the aisle making very heavy weather of the comparative benifits of CommandStrips over BluTac Foam Pads. Aside from that night, Tesco has been OK. This Tesco is old and grim at the best of times. The staff have the look of caged animals in a Vietnamese market, but that's both nothing new and forgivable given the circumstances.

Our Dunnes have a well organised queue, mostly snaking through a large marquee. Inside is pleasant and respectful. Staff are chatty and nice. Dunnes have good signage, good screens for the checkout staff, a one-way system in and out of the shop and just give you the feeling of being on top of things.

Local Costcutter is a pleasure too. Organised queue when it's busy, but mostly it's people getting in and out as fast as possible. Plenty of space, and they staff are their usual chirpy selves.

A second wave is to be expected, sooner or later this year

Apart from the fact reliability of such tests isn't assured yet.

Yes, Dr Tony just said that virtually all new cases are in care settings yet people on here still believe it is contracted in the park or in the supermarket.
