Saw that - was just checking criteria hadn't changed ;)

Be honest about it, if some fella you know told you he got a great car for under two grand and you noticed the tax on it was over half that would you think it was a good bangermomic or a luxobarge?

Honestly? I think half the cars in bangernomics are there because of the tax. My current one is 720 a year (car cost 1650), previous was 951 (car cost 1800).

For me 710 is the bangernomic limit and it would want to have more than six months on it and be a keeper at that.

Bangernomics has moved into the 200 zone over the last year.

Xedos 9..... have a bit of a soft spot for them, ran one for 6 years. Transmission failing at around 170K miles but I know of another that failed 120 K miles. Electric seats, 6 disc changer in dash, sunroof.

Always failed NCT on rear roll bar/torsion bar bushings or whatever it's called, easy replacement.

    That's a €500 car max.

Agreed, it's very shoddy looking. I love them but not enough to pay 1500 for one.

    I'd love a luxobarge jeep.
Driving an 07 Mitsubishi outback which is grand and have an 08 Mazda C7 in the garage waiting for an engine to be fitted but quite fancy a change....

Very nice motor, any idea how much that cost the person that bought it brand new back at the height of the boom?

He/she must have had a handy contact too to get the reg plate as I'd imagine a lot of people would have been after it.

As the song says "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end".

Let's hope we see them again.

Best of luck with the sale Truckermal, she's a head turner.

I don't believe there's major issues with the diesels, I could give you a list the length of your arm for the V8s. Everything else is relatively standard fair, make sure the brakes are operating smoothly when braking from higher speeds, pay attention to suspension noises from all four corners and also from the steering. It's missing a fair few options so no soft close doors/logic 7/adaptive suspension to worry about.

Make sure all electric functions are working both in practice and in the iDrive, as any single module in the car will take down the electronics loop in the car and cause erratic issues.

That 7 series has been for sale ages, about a year at least.

Something not right somewhere so, I wonder what it is???:)......because on the surface, looks a good buy. Using my usual formula of €3000 purchase + €3000 two years motor tax, A lot of car for €6000 on the road.

This. That 3.0 diesel is bomb proof. The petrols are not.

I notice there is a diplomatic sticker on the boot of that 7 series

    Seems a bit odd

Unless it has the CD plates on it as well, it should not have the CD sticker on it......it's travelling under false pretense's.

I knew a Canadian who said he was parked illegally in a Canadian registered car outside one of the Paris airports causing a nuisance.

The traffic cop wanted him to move but he was waiting for someone and did not want to move. So he said to the cop, pointing to the CDN plate on the car - 'Corps Diplomatic - National'.

He said he got away with it.

The Cork reg would give it away immediately anyway

I bought one last year that had come direct from an embassy, and the plates were still on it. All of the service history had been redacted so I never knew where it came from exactly though. I changed them for standard plates fairly swiftly, but have the old ones hanging in the shed

He also has a green 'non-flammable gas' sticker in the passenger windows.

    What's the meaning of that?

    It's a "compressed gas" sticker.

Maybe it has a few air tanks for when it's being attacked
