Seriously, the drama. I would so hate to be stuck in the hard of someone so fearful. There is literally close to zero mortalities besides the elderly in care homes and other vulnerable people in over crowded conditions FACT. Normal life needs to resume ASAP.

    Hmmmm yet another denier !

    Ireland... 24,048 cases... 1,533... deaths.

Have you gone for a test? If not then why not?
Because to qualify for one you need to show more symptoms. I have a runny nose, sore throat but no cough yet.
Some people don't show symptoms, or not all of them.

'Normal life' as you put it, will not be resuming for a long, long time . Gonna have to get used to a dramatically altered lifestyle.

No one denies anything. Come back to me with the numbers besides the elderly in care homes and those tasked with looking after them. I’ll wait on that from you as you really need to absorb the figures.

Is there any indication of when private hospitals and dentists will reopen? There seems to be nothing on the roadmap.

Coronavirus survivors banned from joining US Military. Why ban people who survive it, I wonder?

It will. New normal life. Listen to the experts.

I contracted some kind of cold/flu...
I went out of my way to avoid people, wear gloves.
The only place I went for the past 2 months is to Tesco once a week - late in the evening when there's nobody there. No other face to face interaction with people other than that.
I hope it's not the coronavirus. If it is then this thing spreads by air.

It may not be. But if it is, you could have caught it from a surface or product package item in Tesco, or a trolley, or a door handle or any number of ways, apart from air. But for now... ring your GP and start the test process.

They are going into a very dark place in Brazil the next few weeks unfortunately :(

    No doubt

I assume this is just temporary until more is known about the virus.

We don’t know yet if the recovered have eliminated the virus from the body. It may be just dormant and able to be reactivated in the future like many other viruses.

I thought I saw on RTE news that dentists are opening next week? Can't find it now. Maybe someone else has a link.

So, not for the first time this week, someone close to me has sent me a video with Delores Cahill on that eejit Computingforever channel on YouTube.

Now I don't doubt her credentials, she is clearly very accomplished but what the stuff she was coming out with in the video seems to be the complete opposite with the general consensus of the science community. She did say she hasn't worked with immunology since 1990 or so, but she is definite that once you get the virus you are immune for life. It hasn't been around long enough for this to be proven. She also went down the event 201 conspiracy route.

Basically I'm wondering what her game is here. Clearly and accomplished person pushing conspiracies. Seems quite a few people are getting sucked into it, including people I would consider rational and healthily skeptical.

Myself and one of the children have had these symptoms all week. It’s called hay fever and this time of year is triggered by tree pollen. I only get it in May and this year has been one of the worst.

This does not sound 'just temporary'...

“During the medical history interview or examination, a history of COVID-19, confirmed by either a laboratory test or a clinician diagnosis, is permanently disqualifying ...” the memo reads.

If you’ve got it and get over it then lucky you, your immune. I hope I’ve had it a couple of months ago. Ultimately we all need to get it and get over it.

Spain's deaths below 100 in a day for the first time in 2 months

Things really starting to improve in Spain.

That’s horse sh1t. But if you can’t face the reality that this virus requires us to contract it and become immune to it then go your own way. We are all adults, most of us can behave responsibly without restrictions being imposed on us. I have nothing but sadness for those who have passed, the nursing home situation is a disgrace.

LOL... one of the last diehard 'Herd Immunity' adherents !

How long will it take to achieve this crazy notion do you think ?

Seeing that community testing shows that 4,5% of French people and 5.0% of Spanish people have been exposed to the virus so far.

How often will each of them have to loose ~ 27,000 lives in order to achieve this mythical goal ?

    Utter rubbish !

Thats what Boris Johnson thought, until he got it and then needed to be taken in to ICU.
Around 15% of cases require hospital treatment, that's 1 in every 7
Around 3% of cases required ICU treatment. That can mean 2-3 weeks in ICU, with follow on rehab.

Getting it is really not a good idea.

Nobody is denying that, in the absence of a vaccine, we're all going to get this at some point but we needed the restrictions to even out the rate of infection. Many more, and many younger, would have died had we not put a partial lid on this thing. Your 'only the old have died' is wearisome. I have family who are nurses working with Covid patients and they say many more young people would have died if the hospital admissions had been much higher and full treatment was not available to them. There are also very serious long term health issues associated with this virus for people of all ages, even those with mild cases.
I think most are facing the reality and perhaps you need to look at the reality of what life in this country means and the way a society works together for the sake of all.

Look past the numbers and see how serious this illness can be for some people. Even young people. Many are left with long term effects. We need to slow this down. The options for treatment can only get better.

It sucks for the 7% of people who don't win the genetic lottery. One can get permanent damage to the lungs and heart from what I hear. I would prefer to take the vaccine instead of going through this naturally.
In 2018 I went to Northern Ireland and caught some kind of bug. It was the worst flu I ever had, thought I would die.

Not at all but using your academic credentials to debunk research without showing any of your own is pretty irresponsible. Not to mention various conspiracy theories and zero evidence provided in the video.

On my street there's kids still mixing freely, quite annoying. One of whom is dropped to his granny's by his mother who from her clothes works as a carer/nurse. He then plays with the other kids. They want to pet my dog, I have to tell them to **** off. There's being lax and there's being a piece of ****.

Same in my area now. Horrible to witness and no fcuks given. I'm still just leaving the house for essentials and walking the dog and that's it.

People are in for a nasty shock in a few weeks time when restrictions are put back in place.

Sorry but we only do real news in this thread.

The happy smack talk is in the other thread. :)

People would take your "real news" some bit seriously if you didnt just cherry pick the most pessimistic stories every day. Any sign of posts about decreasing rates anywhere?

I actually regard it as a positive that you have to post about Chile and Nepal etc these days to dump your daily dose of negativity as so many other countries are doing well.

Single parents with no childcare options would not agree with that statement.
No and it is good for kids to see how it all works, but there is a need for control over them. Some kids are super, others see it a chance to release pent up energy and run around like lunatics.

Does anyone know if our 19,000 'recovered' were tested to ensure they were clear of the virus, or is the figure speculative ?
